Michigan Recruit Burns Letter From Ohio State

I am surprised I haven't seen a thread on this yet, but maybe I just missed it.  Curious to see what everyone thinks of this and how it effects our desires to beat the crap out of Tsun in November!

Logan Tully-Tillman, a 6-7 offensive tackle recruit from Manuel High School in Peoria, made it pretty clear on Twitter that he’s headed to Michigan and wants nothing to do with Ohio State.

The 2013 Michigan commit posted a photo of himself burning a letter from Ohio State.

Old news..Devin Gardner did it previously. I'm sure he's not the first or the last recruit. The more press we give it, the more vindication he gets.

Good for him, we'll see how it works out in a few years

Devin Gardner looks like a terrible replacement for DR next year, so let's hope LTT turns out the same way

Glad he did it.   Adds a little fuel to the war.   Not much but a little.      I hope he gets pounded by Bosa everytime they line up across from each other.   But who give a _____ if he does not know he is on the dark side.

SHOCKING NEWS: IT IS NOW FRONT PAGE ON E$PN.

Pharmbuck - PLEASE tell me you aren't trying to turn this into another "ESPN hates us" thing. In this case, ESPN is pretty much one of the last ones to report this. I saw this days ago on Sportsline and Yahoo. An why wouldn't ESPN, or any other sports outlet, NOT give this attention? I mean, we are talking about the BESY rivalry in sports.

PharmBuck's picture
PharmBuck on 29 May 2012 - 10:06pm #

Do they hate us? Maybe, but can't be proven.

Do they love to overreport/overemphasize negative stories about us? Absolutely. Just because they are slower to report means nothing. They were slower to report because it isn't big news, but mystically it is front page news once they hear about it. Deadspin did a huge artilce on this that has been linked here before. There is just no logical explanation for that to be front page news on ESPN.

It's front page news because its been front page news on nearly every other outlet. Its front page news because ppl are still talking about it. Its front page news because its OSU/Michigan. It is in NO way negative. It's about the recruit defending his actions after receiving backlash for burning the letter. They even interview several OSU recruits who the article made appear to "take the high road". In NO WAY is this negative towards us. READ the article.

I think it's getting headlines on ESPN and more outlets because LTT received "death threats".

Great...Death threats... Maybe that happened and if so - that is absolutely shitty for any fan of anything to ever be a part of. Stupid. On the other hand this is a kid looking for attention & I won't say he's lying, but he's loving the attention....

CincyOSU - I'm about tired of seeing you attack  confront every poster that has any negative comments about ESPN. Who cares what the world thinks about ESPN. You are one of the first to call out someone in regards to that or to "correct" a Buckeye fan that thinks a rival school's recruit's comments are scandalous. Seriously, seeing your posts are just as tiring and repetitive as seeing all of the ESPN conspiracy theorists. There thoughts don't require a comment from you. I don't have any deep personal issue with you but wanted to give you a different perspective to think about.

Irricoir- About as tired as I am of CONSTANTLY seeing this, even when it is blatantly obvious that nothing negative or biased is going on. You're probably right though, I do take too much issue with others opinions at times....but you can say the same thing about others who make personal attacks towards me because I don't buy into this ESPN conspiracy. Look, we are all passionate OSU fans and I don't questions anyones allegience...just their views on a few issues. If I'm hated for providing another viewpoint then so be it. If its OK for others on here to constantly post about ESPN, why can't I provide another viewpoint? Or would you prefer that all Buckeyes share the exact same viewpoint?

Edit - Sorry for the overuse of the word viewpoint.

Isn't it kind of the point of a blog to discuss and debate a common interest?  We all are Ohio State fans, but it would be quite boring if we all just agreed and acted like the Super Fans here.  Give me a little argument now and then.  I typically agree with Cincy.  I think the ESPN talk is old.  Virtually every school says ESPN hates their school.  Even SEC teams say this repeatedly.  They all cite specific examples and claim it to be bias.  It's all stupid anyway.  Especially since the people complainging about it every time run to their website and post links to 11W.  If there were some kind of bias, acknowledging their comments, linking their articles, and constantly giving them page views is only helping their cause. If you really hate ESPN and believe there is a bias against the Buckeyes, quit talking about their network, quit watching it, and for the love of God quit posting links to their articles which generate more web hits.

ShadyBuckeye's picture
ShadyBuckeye on 29 May 2012 - 11:37pm #

ESPN just likes to stir controversy. they dont hate us at all, I just think they recognize we have one of the most loyal and biggest fan bases, not to mention alot of fans hate OSU for various reasons (some is jealousy, maybe the fact we appeared in back to back championship games and lost by a wide margin and thought their team deserved to get in over us? among many other reasons...) Anyways ESPN will write any story about us to generate web hits and viewers on television. Its no different than the tabloids, in fact ESPN basically is a sports version of TMZ now-a-days. Its garbage. They generate buzz by reporting (creating?) controversy. I bet the best selling tabloid issues are from profiting off someones death or a rumored affair and not something positive. I guess its just human nature, if yahoo has a story about a young girl getting a life-saving transplant at the last second or a story about Chris "Birdman" Andersen and his transgressions with kids which one are u going to click on? Unfortunately its probably the tragic one.

"I dont like you" is an assassination attempt in 2022 America.

Shame on anyone who would cross the line and threaten a kid-- with that being said, maybe LTT made up the "death threats" to get people to stop talking about how terrible he looked at that recent Nike camp in Columbus?

If they're still there or not, sadly I did see a number of such threats directed at his twitter when the story broke.

But I definitely agree with the NFTC analysis. If there's a kid who can backup cockiness like that, it's not the one who only backed up the critics analyses of him being out of shape, and not nearly mobile enough yet. I still think he can develop into a good player, but you should wait until you're not a huge project before you start calling out beefs that you might never even get the chance to back up.

He had a bad camp---so what?  Maybe he was just watching Dawson blow up Price?  He'll 100% redshirt to bulk up and tune his skills.  He has a high ceiling and that's why he had 30 some offers and why Urban & Co. are sending him mail and visiting him.

Regardless, he shouldn't be threatened with anything other than threats of OSU victories.  His mom should've never been brought up.  Kalis and Pipkins have received similar comments and Armani Reeves was allegedly getting phone calls from Michigan fans.  It's ridiculous, but when these recruits are putting themselves out there in the public, they're going to get some push back.  These are just some extremes.

Hail, imho, there's a big difference between (Price) getting beat once or twice versus (LTT) looking ridiculously bad every time.  Yes, I know it's just a camp, but I was still a bit surprised how bad he looked.

EDIT:  Also, nowhere on this video do I see Price go up against Dawson.  Is there another video that I'm missing?

Watch the ESPN best of DL vs. OL video that includes Columbus. It shows both Dawson standing up Price, and LTT getting continuously beat.

Dawson is a good OL, there's no doubt about that, but that's also not what we were talking about...

bassplayer7770's picture
bassplayer7770 on 30 May 2012 - 9:36am #

Ah, THIS video.  Dawson does look good, but, as you said, we weren't talking about Dawson.  Lovell Peterson also looks good until he faces Price.  It's also fun to see Rodgers and Hand going against one another.  There are several other familiar recruits on this video.

That's the only question I want to see answered in Peterson his senior year, but it's a difficult one to conclude: He's smaller, but more muscular and lean than most OLs. Can he stand up against the Elite guys who have a big size advantage on him, like Price? I guess we'll get a better estimate in pads, but it depends on how many D-1 type DLs he gets to face during the season

bassplayer7770, i read somewhere that LTT was dealing with a shoulder injury and was essentially blocking with one hand.  also was said to be a little out of shape (due to the injury?).  i always thought he was a funny looking dude who hadn't grown into his frame yet (which can be good for a lineman).  i don't know how much an injury was hampering him, but it's not out of the question to think he may have played poorly for him.  if that's not true, and he's really not that good, then his new rankings will reflect that

bassplayer7770's picture
bassplayer7770 on 30 May 2012 - 10:01am #

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a legitimate reason for his poor performance, but that was the first I've heard about the injury.  I was simply commenting about what I saw in the videos.

Why would you want to bring more negative attention to yourself after that POOR showing at the camp? LTT was just exposed, he may have gotten fat off of being the big fish in the small pond in high school, but at that camp circuit he wasn't the only big fish there. He wasn't getting beat, he was flat out getting ABUSED. Instead of putting the lighter to that letter, he should lit a fire under his a**. There is absolutely no way I'd want LTT protecting B.Miller's blind side. Even after missing on E.Pocic, if this guy re-opened his recruitment I wouldn't want him.

What the hell did the kid expect from posting the picture? Did he expect to be praised? Told how awesome he was? Promoted as an outstanding thinker? What would an individual with common sense assume opposing fans would do with this? He was looking for the very thing we are reading about. Yes, it is indeed wrong for anyone at anytime to make derogatory remarks to these kids, but for the love of God, if you ask for it you get it and these kids are continually asking for it. Had he not posted the pic he would not have been "abused". Duh.

BuckinBama's picture
BuckinBama on 30 May 2012 - 10:15am #

That injury news seems more like his pride was hurt then anything else. If your that "hurt" then why not let it be known in advance, his shoulder being hurt had little to do with his very poor foot work, or his lunging and missing, or his false starting that I seen on one clip.

I think L.Peterson is going to be VERY good player, yea B.Price did bulldoze him, but I think he probably hasn't gained all his weight and strength back from the illness that hit him during his previous football season. I think when its all said and done, he'll be anywhere from 290-310, looks like his lower body is much thicker then his upper body which means he'll probably grow some more. I hope.

All 6 Michigan Players in the top 100 dropped and Butt fell out of the top 100.  I'll whine a little...WAAAHHHH.  Ok, well, only Texas has more Top 100 players than us and we're still ranked the number one class.  I'm over it.  If we're #10 come February, that's fine, too.  These guys are talented but a tight knit group which will go even further.

On a side note, I know Peterson is playing center now, but I see him ending up at OSU.  It'll be a nice little story for the broadcasters, especially if he ends up with Braxton under center [again] for a year or two.

I don't care about this kid burning the OSU letter. Obviously he just wanted attention, to ruffle feathers  and to 'avenge the OSU offer extended to McCray' (or so he says). If he's received death threats, thats sad. If you're threatening a kid for posting a picture, you've got issues.

How funny is it that he says he 'hates the whole state of Ohio' when we all know it weren't for the state of Ohio, Michigan wouldn't be able to field a team. They would never have had Bo, or Brady Hoke, for that matter. The kid's basically saying he hates his own future teammates too, since 9 recruits for 2012 are from Ohio, and so far 8 recruits for 2013 are from Ohio.

corveyer's picture

It would be a good story, but in my opinion I think he will end up playing guard at the next level, I think he is a little to athletic to not be used out in space like guards in the spread are. I hope he gets an offer soon, and I'm not just saying that because of losing out on Pocic, I just think he's a pretty good player. I would be thrilled if Urban and Co are able to land Peterson and Rodgers.

So he set some ohio state stationary on fire. Big deal. Not like he burned down the shoe. He's just playing the part of hyping the rivalry. Of course he put it on twitter. So he would get the atta boys from his new fanbase. And to draw the ire of our fanbase. Looks like it worked. Death threats are a bit much...probably the same people who posted those bad reviews of anzalones fathers medical practice. The knuckle dragging mouth breathers of our fanbase. They exist in every fanbase unfortunately. Its no different than the scUM fans who bashed joey bosa for saying he was headed to that place up north. The fact remains we hate them. They hate us. RIVALS Josh Helmholdt on LTT fwiw:  Logan had a rough outing from start to finish at the NIKE Camp. I understand he had a shoulder injury, but that did not account for all the issues he showed in that setting. He has the tools to be a top flight OT, but he needs to start making headway towards realizing that potential. He's trending the other way right now
