Sadly we unearth the guy, could've had him, and will probably miss out on him now for a lesser talent we went all in with that we didn't get ... This dude is probably headed to Tuscaloosa ... The only saleing point I see is Alabama doesn't put TE's in the NFL ... Urban Meyer has/does ... and so does OSU ...
We have Baugh, on top of young TEs on the roster right now, we'll be fine. I was all for taking one from the get-go
This season, it seems the FBs will be used in more of an H-Back role, and I think TEs will fill that role in the future. Let's look at the roster...
2012: Stoney, Heuerman, Vannett, Blake Thomas, Z. Boren, and Adam Homan
2013: Heuerman, Vannett, Thomas, Baugh
So, we go from 6 players to 4 (unless I'm missing somebody). I wouldn't be shocked to add another TE to the 2013 class if we have room.
After J.Stoneburner ... I'm not sold on the remaining TE's on the roster, and none of the potential or upside of Baugh, or McNeil ... Will we be fine of course if we don't get McNeil of course we will, but I would love to add Baugh, and McNeil and not worry about TE at all next recruiting cycle ...
Didn't say I didn't want him as a player, just that other spots need attention
a) we'll be fine even if we have just Baugh
b) I like Heuerman better than Baugh and McNeil
c) this is FAR from over...he's naming Alabama as his "leader" right now but it's the sexy thing to do these days and makes him seem more legitimate...I don't buy it for one second...not saying OSU is his leader, but he does love the Bucks and Jamal Marcus will help
We will be fine at TE after this year. We will have 4 solid guys and between Heuerman, Vannett and Baugh we will have plenty of talent. We are gonna love Baugh in a few years, he is really impressive and a different type of TE then we are used to at OSU.
@Alex I just don't know what you see in Heuerman ... I just don't see it ... Now the only TE I like better was Brenerman that dude was amazing ... Behind Stoneburner I'm not sold on the remaining TE's on the roster ... I don't see them having the same ability to be split out wide as Stoneburner, Baugh, Heuerman, or McNeil ... Their more of you tradional TE's ...
I think Baugh is a better fit for us then Heuerman and I put Mcneil and Heuerman on pretty even ground, though McNeil has more "upside" imo. I also think we eventually end up with McNeil. Coach Withers has kept in contact with him thru this entire process, Marcus helps for sure and I think getting him on campus w/ Urban would be huge. The kid really enjoys the limelight (as he should). A little personal attention from Urban could easliy swing things in our favor.
Again, talking 4 star vs 4 star. I am sure if Urban gets either one of them he will turn them into a monster. Plus I wouldn't sleep on Vannett and the older Heuerman. Urban can mold crap into ashtrays with any of them.
Not to mention once Marshall and Co come in, none of it will matter. Could have Shugarts as the TE and still be a dominant offense. Of course baring false starts!
