God. Yes.
DJ's confidence is intoxicating
"Winter is coming" - Urban Meyer
Hodge, I must say, I'm very disappointed to see you in agreement with that twaddle. I get that it's a Buckeye site and all, but another perfect example of why 11W is the only OSU site I can stomach. It's not the 12-0 prediction that is the problem, but the overloaded homerism produces little more than C+ entertainment value.
Nebraska: "They will never contend for a National Title again."
Wisconsin: "I will be putting my entire life savings on Ohio State on this week. Urban Meyer may hang 65 on Bret Bielema's shit talking ass. There may be crunken riots with flares by the 3rd quarter as Jordan Hall scoots in for his 3rd touchdown which puts Ohio State up 24."
Michigan: "Once I win my winnings from betting on whatever Ohio State is (+/-) against Wisconsin, I will instantly be doubling down on whatever the line is for the last banger of the year. Ohio State might win by 30, and when they do, last year's troubles will seem to belong to the last century."
I do agree that everything tainted is gone, save Gene Smith.

C+ entertainment value is all we ever promised.
@HAIL - I don't necessarily agree with everything DJ writes, but I do enjoy his style--I'm an absolute sucker for conversational tone--and the passion and fervency with which he brings forth his opinions.
As Evelyn Beatrice Hall's oft-misattributed quote tells us:
I keep thinking this year's Buckeye team will be the 2012 equivalent of Auburn 1993.
I really think this season at the shoe will have a level of electricity not seen in a long time. If we go into the scum game unbeaten - and win........it might blow the stadium apart.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
Did all the writers from 11W who jumped ship make their own SBNation blog or something?
Not exactly. I've been employee of Vox Media (SB Nation's parent company) for about a year now and was sort of wearing a variety of hats all simultaneously. Besides doing my day job and contributing to the brain trust at EDSBS, I was still moonlighting here making the Dubcast run on time and pinch hitting on articles when folks were sick/had conflicts/etc.
After about 7 or 8 months, it became pretty clear it wasn't fair to 11W or my employers for me to be splitting my attention. I hung up my 11W cleats but wanted to stay with a foot in the Ohio State scene and around the same time SBN's existing Ohio State blog decided to call it quits. I launched Land-Grant Holy Land the weekend of the spring game and we've been sort of fleshing it out since. Independently, DJ decided to depart this site and reached out to me to see if I had a place for him and we brought him on board.
DJ has apparently forgone mixing water and is simply shoving spoonfuls of koolaid powder into his mouth.
Fun read, but Jordan Hall? Heisman? Nope.
@FLIP - My sentiments exactly.
I gotta say, entertaining read except for the Miami jab. I grew up a buckeye fan, who ended in Oxford due to growing up in a tiny town and C-bus was just too big straight of high school.
While I have never been pretentious about my education I will agree those kids are complete wimps. I played football with a variety of kids, even big strong frat bros, it was like fish in a barrel. Those kids couldn/t scrap their way out of a paper bag. It's going to be ugly come September. Hope Dysert took out some life insurance.
Honestly, I think we lose one or two games this year, but an undefeated season isn't out of the question. Michigan State will be a VERY hard game. So will Wisconsin. Michigan will be our hardest test, but that's at home and I think we match up well against them.
So, yes, homerism at work here, but it's not that far-fetched. Other than Jordan Hall winning the Heisman.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Are the guys you play with on the football team? My buddy was a left guard for Big Ben and later Josh Betts (out of Vandalia-Butler). He was 6'7" and about 310-315. He would make one helluva scary looking wimp. Of course, that was like 7-10 years ago, so maybe the current guys are wimps.
@Flip...YES! He also lost me when he referred to Miami U as University of Miami.
@Thebad...all of the blowout predictions might be a little much, too.

Do you think Noah Spence is going to be starting by the MSU game? I sure don't. He may be a 5-star, but he's still a freshman.
dont need Noah Spence to start at any point in the season. Its called rotating guys in constantly to give them a breather. John Simon doesnt get tired, he doesnt even breathe because he is a terminator so I wont use him as an example but Id rather have guys going in constantly to relieve the other man cuz Id rather have a second stringer in there at 100% than a good quality starter huffin and puffin at 75%.
It is really difficult to predict the combined impact of:
Barring injuries to our thin spots (OL, MLB, QB), I would take us straight-up against any team on our schedule, with MSU being the biggest challenge.
PS - Spence, Washington, Pittman, Schutt will not need to start, they will rotate in and astonish us with their incredible athleticism in small doses...for now.
Wow, DJ using another Ohio State blog forum as a means to sling weak sauce. Shocker.
Bucksfan - shouldn't you be off rooting for Cincinnati basketball and booing the football team while simultaneously bashing Tress?
Or
Bucksfan coming to sling negativity wherever DJ is? Shocker.
Couldn't decide on which
I'm sure DJ would appreciate you noticing his work tho.
@cbusbuckeye nice post.... What DJ had to say looks good to me :)
O H I O is the Buckeye State
Yeah...I'm not sure we're guaranteed 15 years with Urban. I thought the consensus was maybe 7-10 years, anything past that is icing. Or am I wrong there?
Not sure why he's talking crap to the Indiana teams...Purdue beat us last year and an awful IU team gave us all we could handle. At home.
The hyperbole is a bit much on the Wisconsin and Michigan games. 6 games into the schedule we get that he's confident. At least offer up some realistic predictions to balance out a Jordan Hall heisman run.
Yea!!! DJ is back! I have a new internet destination! Thanks for the 411, CBUSBUCKEYE.
Real fans stay for Carmen.
is it saturday yet, i don't even have you on my radar to know the character of your posts. But thanks for noticing me to such an extent. Glad to know I have fans.
Solid cop out Bucksfan. I especially liked how you addressed what he said...in that you didn't.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I especially like how I wasn't talking to you, Brewster. Or the fact that I don't answer to people who think they're blog police.
Another zinger! Keep up the good work homie.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Be sure to tip your waitress.
I can't stay mad at this guy....
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
This is more entertaining than the OP.
Another pissing contest thread...awesome.
When I saw this thread, all I could think of was this.
I can't think OSU will be able to go 11-1 or 12-0 this season, last year even with everything going on I thought OSU would win at least 8-9 games on talent alone and that obviously didn't happen. I know we have Meyer and a good incoming class but I am at the pointa 7-5 or 8-4 season is what I expect to see and will be ok with. I can't think they can do better at this point after last year.
The only two things in that article I strongly don't think happen are Urban being here for 15 years and J. Hall being involved in the Heisman race. Other than that, I think a 12-0 record is definitely within the realm of possibility just given the weakness of schedule and the strength of the talent that OSU has on the roster. @MSU will be the toughest game. Hesitant to get into predicting any scores at this point because how explosive the offense and how dominant the defense will be are unknown quantities. Nonetheless, I'm optimistic :)
I would endorse anyone betting their life savings on that Wisconsin game, though. The bye week + Bert Bielema's comments to the media re: Urban = A Mortal Kombat "Finsih Him" scene in Madison.
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
@Alex Root- At every school Urban has ever been to, he's increased the W/L record by at least 4 games- if history repeats itself, we're looking at 10-2 at the worst.
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
I would get out of here if I were you, Bucksfan. "By the book", you damn well should have been banned for the war you got into with DJ, but by the grace of both Jason and DJ, DJ took all the blame and you got away free. Quit playing with fire. I have no clue why you would even continue to talk about DJ unless you want trouble.
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
@Alex Root, I get what you're saying. The formula of last season's performance + returning starters = this season's performance is usually all we have to go on, but even in situations of continuity, that formula has limited predictive power. When using it to predict the performance of the '12 Buckeyes it seems even more useless because it ignores all the other factors that caused our putrid performance last season.
Lack of focus caused by all the off-field turmoil, lack of leadership in the huddle (the result of inexperience, suspensions and exacerbated by Fickell's dubious decision to forgo team captains) and lack of leadership on the sidelines (Fickell clearly out of his depth, Bollman exposed for what he was) all contributed to last season's performance and have all been addressed by the hiring of Urban Meyer.
You say you'd be "ok" with 7-5 or 8-4? Urban went 8-3 at BGSU, 10-2 at Utah, and 9-3 at UF in his first seasons at those schools. It is not unreasonable to expect at least as much from him and our Buckeyes. 10-2 is my call.
I noticed that too, Jake. Some people just can't help themselves.
It'd be nice if 11W could add an "Ignore User" feature, no?
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
On the internet, OSU would never, ever, lose to Purdue. I firmly believe that. On the internet, I am takin' the Bucks, and givin' Purdue the points.
Ya know?
It was pretty funny - got a few laughs out of me. Take out the following exaggerations - hanging 65 on Wisc in Camp Randall, beating Mich by 30 (though that would be great and there would maybe be a Hoke sighting at one of the concession stands at that point), and Jordan Hall being a Heisman candidate, and what DJ says isn't much of a stretch. I still think we'll find a loss out of one of the 3 tough road games, and maybe another loss on some off day. We were within a score in all but one loss last year, and that one loss was with a QB who has exhausted his eligibility. Certainly, 10 wins is very possible and won't take as much improvement from last year as this new coaching staff is going to bring. Going undefeated is a very tall task, even for teams that are fully loaded and should go undefeated.
Class of 2010.
people with a 12-0 prediction for OSU in 2012 are very optimistic. Cal, Nebraska, Michigan, Illinois, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Penn State will all give OSU stout competition.
i think nebraska, michigan, wisconsin, michigan state, and penn state will all be toss-up games. i think we win 2-3 out of those 5
Glad to see DJs writings again. I've missed them quite a bit here. As usual - I loved how he wrote this piece & as usual I disagree. We will lose a few games this year & that's ok. I would rather they went undefeated in an upcoming year where we have the opportunity to win an NC. Going undefeated is not easy. Back to back undefeated seasons is damn near impossible. A new head coach will not change that. In all of Urbans years as a head coach there was one undefeated season...at Utah. All these teams we have to play are filled with big strong kids would love nothing more than to beat tOSU. The target on our back will be bigger than ever. Happy with 9-3, thrilled with 10-2.
You know, DJ's a pretty snarky dude. When I read the article I wondered if he was serious or poking a little fun at those who think it'll be really easy to stomp everyone we play...wouldn't put it past him...

M Man was totally right re: Purdue :(
Taquitos.
Yeah - I saw what he did there too & yeah - he makes a really good point in general...unfortunately.

Purdue is at home though, diaster seems to only stike when playing at Ross Ade.
@Third Leg- Good idea on the ignore button
@Jake- second
