pro's- He was a Buckeye. He led a last minute drive to win a Rose Bowl.
Cons- wasn't the best OSU QB of the decade (Bob Hoying). His constant audibling vs Michigan State in '98, were audibles out of run plays into pass plays, Germain had a bad game that day, OSU never imposed their will (run game) on MSU. Sure Joe wasn't covering Plaxico all game, but I do give him the majority of blame for OSU's loss in that game.
just my thoughts, due to the comments I've read on the 70's and 80's Mt Buckmore announcements, about who we should see on the highly competetive 90's 4some.

I dont really like the way you and alot of other people point fingers and criticize a fellow Buckeye (only Ray Small, Art Schlicter, players like that deserve criticism from within) but I must say I agree with basically everything u said, just not that u said it if that makes any sense:)
Pace, George, Winfield, and one of Katz, Boston, Wilkinson, or Glenn I would assume.
The aughts will most certainly be Hawk, Smith, Doss, and Laurinaitis.
well Shady, when making a Top 4 of a 10 year period, you have to be somewhat critical. Just putting my opinion to Liquid Crystal.
I give Joe all the props I can for coming to Ohio from Arizona, beating Michigan and winning the Rose Bowl and a Sugar Bowl. Those are 3 wins almost unheard of in the Cooper Era.
90s locks= Pace & George, 00s locks= Troy Smith, Doss
Well Johnny Boy, you sound like ur being OVER-critical. you have a long list of "cons" in paragraph form and when you list the "pros" it basically says he was the equivalent of Joe Bauserman (now ur making me criticize former Buckeye players). Anyways why didnt you mention he was the B1G player of the year or selected to the OSU all century team?? perhaps those belong on his resume?
I know these are long shots for the 90s, but I wouldn't mind seeing Korey Stringer and Shawn Springs. I know Shawn fell down in that Michigan game, but don't forget about his punt returns.
That being said, I can't see these guys leap frogging some of the others mentioned already, like George, Pace, etc.
I think you kind of buried the best point you made in your post, which is that Bob Hoying has been somewhat unfairly overlooked when reflecting on the best Buckeye quarterbacks, and that Germaine has perhaps been overrated in comparison to him, presumably because of that one drive in Pasadena. But I don't think it's necessary to start apportioning blame for all the disappointing big game defeats we had in the '90s. Let's just say there were too many, and leave it at that.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
From Wikipedia:
So, I completely disagree. He's a fine option to be a top-4 90's Buckmore candidate. Holding him accountable for MSU's comeback in '98 is unfair, and he was spectacular in all of the other games. You also can't hold him responsible for Cooper's infatuation with Stanley Jackson. He won us a Rose Bowl and a Sugar Bowl (Pryor is the only other OSU quarterback that can say that). And guess what? He is only one of 2 Cooper quarterbacks (excluding Craig Krenzel) to beat Michigan.
Joe Germaine is a legend.
Joe set alot of records in his pro career too. I watched him move the ball well against Florida st in the sugar bowl and then Stanley Jackson would come in and give those yards back to Florida st. Joe should of been the starter for at least 3 yrs as the Buckeyes QB. I remember him as a tough QB, he wasnt afraid to stay in the pocket and take a big hit right after he thew the ball.
O H I O is the Buckeye State
