A friend who's a member of the Notre Dame 247 site told me Jaylon is visiting Notre Dame again June 14th. This one could be over in Notre Dame's favor soon.

Meh. I mean, I'd love to have Jaylon Smith in this class, but I'd be just as happy getting Anzalone back. And if neither of those happen, we already have a ton of linebacker depth going forward, and there's always Raekwon McMillan in 2014.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
With all the interest from top 2014 lb's and a good lb class in 2012, I wonder if Meyer may just shut down lb recruiting this year and get 3-4 next year.
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
^^^This. A lot of the offers the last week or two seem to be to LBs for 2014. I'd be fine with shutting it down and getting 1 more RB (especially if it's Green), 3 more OL and 2-3 more WRs.
Id stop going after Anzalone, and just tell Jaylon that we are only taking 1 LB or none at all and we want that 1 to be you...no other LBs in the class slightly sweetens the pot. Then next year you tell your top 3 LB recruits we took just 1 LB, or 0 w/ out Smith because we were counting on them to make impacts early...thats something I think the 2014 kids would love to hear...
I have been thinking for quite a while that Smith was all Irish, and nothing I'm hearing lately has changed that.
I don't care what we do personally, but Ohio State would certainly look much better in the eyes of the 2014 recruits if we took zero linebackers in the 2013 class. We keep hearing that 2013 kids are turned away by our depth, so if we take 0 then the 2014 kids won't have to worry about it.
loosing Hicks to Texas and DePreist to Bama stung a bit simply because those are 2 other elite level schools than can compete for a nc, always good to win a recruiting battle against a school on that level. While I'd love to see Jaylon come to Columbus, I have to question just how much emphasis he actually places on winning. There's not a sane person on this planet that believes ND is actually relevant any longer nor has ANY shot at playing for a nc. It's like loosing a recruit to Ole Miss or Indiana. Best of luck to him and good luck in South Bend and enjoy the Holiday Bowl.
smh NIBLICK
Don't forget about Dante Booker. That kid looks like a stud (though on those highlight films, don't they all).
Losing a recruit to ND is most certainly not the same as losing a recruit to Ind or Ole Miss. While ND hasn't been relevant for quite some time, it still holds allure for some reason(maybe they want to be the class the get ND to relevance) with recruits and fans alike....and they still do send players on to the NFL. It's not always about winning titles when recruits choose their school. A lot more goes into it than that....coaching, scheme, depth chart, comfort with the campus, academics, personal ties to the school, distance from home, etc.
With the losses of Anzalone and Neal and Jaylon looking more ND everyday, Urban may just shut down the 2013 LB recruiting for 2013. In 2014 Mcmillan, Booker, and Garrett would def make up for the losses at LB in 2013. This could give Urban the opprotunity to get more of those skill position players he says he needs (Foster, Quick, Green, Allen).
Intresting thing about Smith is he has been told, and I am not hearing this second handed that ND will use him some on offense. His size, speed and hands he feels that, while linebacker is his natrual position he wants to touch the ball. After watching him 2 years on offense he is a natrual with the ball in his hands. Ohio State is still in the mix but I can tell you the little brother wants his own path and Notre Dame is a serious front runner.
man this really is a dead period in recruiting isnt it. its so boring coming on here lately. we need a commitment to happen soon. i mean i guess its better than last year lol atleast we dont have sanctions and our coach isnt getting fired so i shouldnt complain but i come on here like 4 times a day and theres nothing to get excited about. sorry alex, jason, ur articles are great and everything haha i just want something, ANYTHING! (anything good of course)

shake your head all you want, fact is fact and there is NO WAY anyone in their right mind can make any case for ND having an equal shot of winning and competing for a nc as does tOSU. You'd have to be insane to even attempt that arguement.
I'm not saying by any means the kid is making a wrong decision if what is more important to him is his course of study or being closer to home or anything else not related to the 2 football programs. But from a pure football standpoint, the 2 programs aren't even on the same planet. This isn't the 1940's. So as I said, if he wants to go to ND, there is obviously more to his decision than simply his desire to win, so good luck in South Bend.
But football isn't all that matters to 95% of recruits. I'm obviously a huge OSU fan, but I'm not blind to what Notre Dame has to offer. It is one of the best academic schools that can field a competitive football team. It has an absolutely beautiful campus. It has tradition. It has the best coach that its had in years.
On the other side, I've heard from basically all media outlets that ND football team struggles because the players get bored during the offseason. There is nothing to do there.
If Brian Kelly is the best coach you've had in years, football really must be the last thing on recruits minds when picking ND
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
They're not that far off...at some point, the pieces have to fall into place. They have loads of talent and they are recruiting well. Maybe if they join a conference, they would have a better shot instead of playing the likes of Michigan, Michigan State, USC, Stanford, and Oklahoma (this year). I mean the B1G is tough, but we don't have 3 perrenial top 10s on the schedule very often.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
