I realize that there are many out there that really want to continue the tradition of the Rose Bowl, I am not one of them. If you look back at history since the inception of the BCS, how many times has the B1G Champion and the PAC10 champion actually met in this game. Usually one if not both of them are playing in another bowl game somewhere and you get the next best team, that is if the Rose Bowl doesn't pick up an at large bid. I just say to heck with all this pocket stuffing traditionalism, LETS PLAY IT OUT ON THE FIELD. I still stand by the notion that you take every conference champion (makes the season uber important) and a few at large teams (to make an even number) put them in a playoff. 1st round is at the higher ranked teams home field and after that bid the games out to the highest paying bowl and television station. Lets crown a true champion and really turn this thing into a cash cow.
Your thoughts?

I would like to see the Rose Bowl preserved, but only if it does not get in the way of a playoff. Luckily, it looks like the Rose Bowl will survive and be some part of the new playoff format.

i just want it to be decided on the field
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
Why don't we move the Rose Bowl to be the first game of each new season? Make it the previous years B1G and P-12 champs against one another. Since the B1G and P12 have their agreement to have a challenge every year, there won't be any schedule issues- the other teams/games are simply scheduled for that same week.
Imagine the pagentry of the Rose Bowl parade and game if every year it was the very first thing that opened college football season. Right now the season sort of opens with a whimper. There are some games here and there and then a relatively full slate weekend where who faces who is based on schedules sets years and years ago. Let's market college football.
This allows for a playoff at the end of the year on whatever terms end up happening, mantains the B1G-P12 challenge that has been signed, possibly improve the modern day status of the Rose Bowl, and creates a marketing success for the beginning of each season.
I love watching the Rose Bowl but it doesn't carry the same clout that it used to. The Rose Bowl used to be a battle between the the best of each conference. Now that that isn't a foregone conclusion I just don't see the importance. It was all good back in the day when they assigned a national championship based on perception. When they took that away and the guarantee that the two conference champions would play, then they throw in a non-AQ team every 1/3 rd season or whatever the new rule is, They have really watered it down. What is left to preserve that hasn't changed already?
I hope someone puts a mandate on the sec vs. big12 bowl that one of their teams must sit out to let ND or a non AQ team in it.
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
To me it just seems that these bowls don't really care about conference affiliations unless it is best for them financially. If the first place team is in the BCS they can take the #2 team or an at large bid. If they aren't required to take the teams from our conferences then why are we showing so much loyalty to them? There is a LOT of money being left on the table (or in the bowls pocket) that these conferences could be raking in for themselves.
