Just passing along that Steve Wiltfong of 247 reporting Pocic's visit to LSU this weekend went extremely well and he is not sure OSU leads anymore. Before anyone panics this is a marathon not a sprint and that Urban Meyer guy has been pretty good in situations like this. He's also proven he can get top level talent in place of Pocic of we miss, but getting this stud OT is a top priority and would be a hurt if we miss.

Does Pocic have a return visit to Columbus planned anytime soon?
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I agree that it's a marthon, but I'm not sure there is any similar talent left on the board at OL.
Even with how well recruiting has gone overall since Urban has taken over, the one spot where it still seems to be a struggle to get guys to make that decision to commit to this program is at OL. Meyer recovered quite nicely at the end of last year's period (Dodson, O'Connor, Decker), but this year's been tough so far.
I realize it's early, but many of the top OL targets that many of us initially thought OSU had a good chance at landing have already committed elsewhere.
Do recruits not see the wide-open depth chart here, especially once Mewhort, Linsley, and Hall graduate in '13? It's hard for me to fathom when you look at the amount of OL recruits that have committed to UM and ND the past two years, as opposed to Ohio State.

OldColumbusTown...no offense but you're flat out wrong here...Meyer has recruited half a class and brought in Kyle Dodson, Taylor Decker, and Joey O'Connor----three 4-star+ players that would not have been Buckeyes if Meyer was not coach....
It is MAY OF 2013....give the guy some time...I know the recruiting timetable has inched up a little in the past couple of years but the guy has EIGHT MORE MONTHS to recruit....let's judge him in the first week of February 2013...
The payoff of casting a wide net is you get some national talent you may not have otherwise gotten....the drawback is that more "targets" go elsewhere because there are more fish in the sea.....
Whoa whoa whoa.. if you thought I was putting down the recruiting of efforts, that's not what I intended to get across. It's more of a "what are these recruits thinking" rather than "why isn't Urban working on this."
Some of the guys I thought OSU might have a legit shot at landing - Bivin, Fox, Bosch, Tuley-Tillman (more of a longshot, I know - especially after seeing his Twit pic), McGovern - have ALL chosen either Michigan or Notre Dame. I guess what I am saying is I don't understand that from the "recruit" perspective.
Urban has shown he gets guys drafted, and there is very little proven talent in Columbus at the moment on the offensive line. With a wide-open depth chart and the chance to get recognized right away if the offense puts up the numbers many of us expect, I don't see the downside here. Compare that to ND and UM, where a boatload of OL recruits will be competing with each other for time from the get-go and throughout their 4/5 years...
That's what doesn't make sense to me.

I'm not gonna pretend to understand why we haven't filled these positions, because that's simply not my place. I do find it interesting though that Michigan seems to have the inverse of our problems. Example, we haven't filled our OL spots and lost LBs, while they filled their LBs months ago, and have tons of depth in OL. In the same respect, they need more DLs, of which we have many, and our RB/WR/ATH recruiting seems much better in Urban's short time here.
I'm not worried, I think he's a great recruiter, and he'll be successful in either getting those commitments or developing what we already have, but I'd be at ease if Pocic would just get on board.
I want to play the devil's advocate here for a moment. I don't doubt for a moment that U.Meyer is a fantastic recruiter, but had Penn State not had the issues they were having, and are still facing do we even get N.Spence, C.Williams, and A.Reeves. A couple of the other guys that were flipped were thought to have been Buckeye leans until the JT resignation. I've never really followed recruiting as close as I have the past couple of seasons, but I do admit to not being able to remember ever having this many "commits" this early in the recruiting cycle. Now on E.Pocic, I've been a little worried about this situation for a while because nothing has been coming from it, and now this news. I think we can recover nicely however by pulling in all, or any combination of L.Peterson, K.Rodgers, or D.Munger, I wouldn't be the least bit disappointed in that haul, and just like LB we focus on OT position seriously in '14.
The other aspect of it only being May, is that there's entire season of high school football left... an entire season for a surprise or two OL recruit to pop onto the radar. I'm willing to bet that by the end of december, we'll be talking about OL recruits whose names haven't even been seen on this board before.
Not the news I wanted to hear about Pocic's visit to LSU. Although I don't think we need to hit the panic button I think if they don't get Pocic then they better make a priority to get top O-line in 2014. I am curious to any opinions to why we are losing out on what seems to be every O-line prospect in mid-west area? ( except Lisle)
Has anyone every considered that scUM got all those OL recruits because they had almost no depth at the position and we do? We dont have the best depth but when Hoke changed systems he had a bunch of OL that did not fit.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
@GraySkullSession -
It's not that Hoke had a bunch of OL that didn't fit. It's that he didn't have any damn OL. Of the offensive linemen that RichRod recruited, Quinton Washington moved to defense, Kurt Wermers transferred to Ball State, Dann O'Neill transferred to Western Michigan, Christian Pace had a career-ending injury, Tony Posada transferred then left football entirely (the only transfer under Hoke - and it's an insignificant one), and Rocko Khoury didn't take a 5th year. That means, since 2008, only Elliot Mealer, Patrick Omameh, Taylor Lewan, Michael Schofield, Ricky Barnum, Jack Miller and Chris Bryant are left.
Personally, I put this one squarely on RichRod's shoulders.
@OhioBornTSUNBred, I can understand. I put all the blame for our O Line depth issues on Bollman's shoulders.
One thing I would like to point out is that everything is new at tOSU this year. Some recruits may have a wait and see type of attitude. Under the previous regime we were having a very hard time getting OL recruits to perform. I still say there was some other underlying issues that were causing 5* kids to come to tOSU and perform like 2* and 3* athletes. These recruits see things like this and do not want that same fate for themselves. So some of them may be wanting to see what is going to happen with the current coaching staff before they make a commitment to tOSU. You have to admit for the last several years OL performance has been a big let down in Columbus. Let's see what Urban and staff put on display as a team this year and see what happens after that.
