2013 O-Line Recruiting

I had a few questions about where we stand with a few guys for this class figured I would consolidate it in one post.

Anyone know when Pocic is planning on making his announcement? I know a little while ago Alex said that he thinks we are in pretty good shape with him, anyone know if that is still the case?

Is Dorian Johnson still planning on visiting or has he visited? Anyone have any updates?

I know Khaliel Rodgers is visiting soon, does anyone know how close he is to making his announcement? Any chance he commits after his visit?

I have heard Lovell Peterson's name mentioned and I know he is looking for an offer, would he commit quickly if offered?

With DT Michael Hill visiting soon, anyone think at all this hints that the staff may be looking Billy Price to play OLine?

If we miss on the any of these guys who are some backups that the staff might go after, because OLine is certainly a very important position in this class?

Price probably won't play oline, I think the final o-line class will include Lisle, Pocic and Peterson, but if they want to put Billy Price or Donovan Munger (if/when he commits) on the offensive side, that makes sense too.

I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.

If you build it (the O-Line) then they will come (the national championships)

dominant teams really do start with the offensive and def fronts, thats not breaking news to anybody but our o-line is so weak. its average enough for the big 10 but we will get DESTROYED by Alabama, LSU or USC in the coming years. Im salavating at the prospect of Pocic but he is not enough. We need one more safe 4 star stud in addition to Pocic atleast. I would take a dominant lineman over a receiver like James Quick actually. as long as we can get gibson and/or foster or subsitute any of the WR's for the other.

I'm actually not as worried about the O-line now as I was say 6 months ago. Warriner seems pretty confident in this bunch, so I'm following his lead. We've had some good talent over the past couple of years. But they've failed to live up to their potential thanks to a walrus of a coach. I believe the current set of coaches will do their best to ensure that everyone meets or exceeds their potential. Depth will probably be an issue this year, so I'm praying for no injuries. But the starting five should be more then enough to get the job done. If for no other reason then teams can't stuff the box expecting dave.

IMO-Pocic is keeping it close to the vest but alot feel he will be a Buckeye and at this point WE MUST get him. D. Johnson is leaning towards Pitt, some say heavy lean but my guess is that we do not get him. K. Rodgers is a long long shot IMO and he is just waiting for a USC offer. He has stated that he'd like to play on the West coast and when USC offers  he will accept unless his family can convince him to stay closer to home. I've always thought that Peterson was our back-up plan and to be honest I think he will be a solid Tackle/Center. I think with OSU running out of options Peterson will get an offer and be a Buckeye. Other that Pocic, Lisle, Peterson I think that is all we are gonna get unless something unforeseen happens. IMO Urban has to go strong after O-line in 2014 and has to make it priority #1.  We are good for this year and next but after that we need depth.

Just look at the number of Oline prospects offered for 2014 already. I'd say he's making it a priority. IMO with limited numbers again (barring transfers) we will be looking at 3 possibly 4 OL in 2014

I agree that they will be fine.  Can't forget that O'Connor and Dodson will be there this fall.  While they probably wont be ready to play as freshman, they will certainly help down the road and maybe even as 'depth' this year

Coach Meyer needs to close out O-Line 2013 recruiting with:

Evan Lisle  (committed) - same as for Pocic below.

Ethan Pocic (great opportunity - Fragel gone after this year, Mewhort gone in two)

Lovell Peterson  (center first, guard second)

Peterson has size potential, great ability and wants to be a Buckeye, so take him.

Have to assume he's a buckeye if offered given his relationship with Braxton?

I was becoming a little worried about how stagnant our recruiting had become w/the de-commits, and the misses, but I read that Oregon only has 3 commits thus far, so that put everything in perspective a bit for me. NSD is still a long way away we have time to recover. Another thing is why aren't we jumping on some of these Ohio kids that want to be Buckeyes. L.Peterson, looks like a great G/C prospect he fires off the ball like a DT, and moves extremely well, D.Munger is much of the same. If we can get those two, w/E.Pocic I'd be excited. We just seem to be having trouble landing the elite OT prospects. T.Decker looks to be a good one, and we have K.Dodson coming in the summer/fall. I say take the OGs we can get now, and go hard on the OTs in '14

If we land Rodgers on 6/30 do we still go after Peterson? I would assume yes, Pocic, Rodgers, and Peterson would be a decent OL class just gotta land a few Tackles next year

After seeing Lovell perform in the highlight video linked below, I also have to say I'm impressed.  I hope he can earn his offer at camp.

I'd like to see rogers, peterson and pocic round out this class.  I'd use a LB schollie on Dorian Johnson too, based on how 2014 looks so far.

@Bassplayer  Lovell looked real quick in that video, loved it.  David Dawson was pretty impressive too

Instead of Logan Thomas-Tillley burning up scholarship offer papers from OSU, he needs to be working on his footwork, and his physique. That body is awful, he has no chance of blocking anyone on our DL.

I hope Peterson gets an offer he looked great on film. In the NFTC clip that @BassPlayer posted, although limited, Dawson and Peterson were the two most impressive looking linemen. I also would love it if the OLine rounded out with Pocic Peterson and Rodgers.

Is Peterson a center, guard, or tackle?

bassplayer7770's picture

I've heard Center or Guard for Peterson.  I believe he is Center in high school and actually played with Braxton.

Yeah, I knew he was braxtons center before, but have seen him listed as all 3 on sites. Thanks.
