Why didn't we get Mccray and Butt instead of Sprinkle and Neal?

Neal and Sprinkle are only 3 stars and Neal isn't even from Ohio. It seems like they filled up the Defensive line and used some schollies.

There is a reason for everything with Urban and I trust that he has seen something from Sprinkle and Neal that fits his style of football player. Rating wise MCcray and Butt are higher but Urban likes our guys for a specific reason and we may not understand it but he does and he's the coach. He would not waste slots on guys for no reason, especially when we are limited in 2013.

The other thing - we don't get to interview them, size up their character or see their grades & tests. I personally think that Meyer is paying a whole lot more attention to personality & grades than he may have in the past. He inherited a program on probation, & knows it will be watched closely. Character matters.

@Buckeyedude1001

1) You have a killer class coming in. I wouldn't worry too much about the star ratings of a couple guys who happened to fly below the radar. Based on what I've seen from Neal and Sprinkle - they don't look to me like generic three-stars.

2) Who's to say you could've *had* McCray and Butt (heh)? With Butt especially, he was a big priority for Michigan, and the staff acted like it. While OSU often gets their favorite Ohio recruits, an OSU offer doesn't mean an automatic commit. Fine Michigan football players like Charles Woodson and Mario Manningham come to mind as examples...

Hail - Question for you. Ohio State has one true rival and that is Um of course. My Michigan fan friends never want to lose the OSU game, but they claim that it is a bigger game for OSU fans than it is for Michigan fans. They say OSU is an important game but they downplay its significance, which I always chalked up to them losing so many to Tressel. They say that Um really has 3 rivals, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Notre Dame. Which of these games to Michigan fans is the most important? Which is THE rival? Do you consider all 3 equal? Um hasn't beat MSU in 4 years, so does that make it the 'must win' game now? Please enlighten me on this, and Rational or M Man can chime in as well. Thanks.

To be fair, I see Wisconsin and Penn State as rivalry games as well.  Though Wisky is new, OSU-Penn State actually has a wikipedia page.  I see those games like (I think) Michigan sees ND and MSU, with pure hatred.

Here's an MGoBlog topic on this very subject, there's no question there--it's OSU.

Yeah, I think most Michigan fans would say 1) OSU 2) MSU 3)ND

None, except possibly someone who lives in or near South Bend would put ND ahead of the other two.  Those who live in Michigan probably feel a little more hatred for MSU than I do, living in Dayton.  Still, the majority of my family lives in East Lansing and my brother is a Sparty fan, so I defnitely hear about it when Michigan loses.  It's just weird because MSU normally wins like 1 out of 4 vs Michigan.

I would add that Urban has been the coach of Ohio for what, maybe 6 months and you guys are only taking 18 players. He has not had the time as say Hoke to scout players himself. I certainly think it is very possible that he has had a chance to see Neal and Sprinkle, was impressed what he saw and offered accordingly. If Mccray and Butts do not commit early and camp they might get an offer. If I recall, Sam Webb was saying that fickle was trying to get mccray to hold off on his commitment and wait to camp.

seriously, michigan people, anyone who calls ohio st "ohio" is a troll.  plain and simple.  it's a daft and unoriginal way to take a knock at ohio st without having the balls to do it directly.  your moron coach stole it from woody, who started this whole business of not referring to the other by name, and if you think about it, it's pretty damn sad that hoke has to steal an ohio state tradition to make fun of ohio state.  and that's not even the best part: no one at ohio state cares if you call us ohio.  if anything it's a compliment; it's like saying all the other schools in ohio don't matter, which by the way, tends to piss off all the other schools in ohio, who in turn could potentially take out that anger whenever they happen to match up w michigan--like in the ncaa tournament for example.  so keep on calling us ohio: it does nothing to piss us off and everything to make you look like imbeciles.

When people respond to Michigan folks saying Ohio, clearly it does strike a nerve.  Any time one of the Michigan fans are on this site and say OHIO, there are immediately several posts saying the Ohio thing is stupid, it doesn't make sense, and it doesn't bother them.  Clearly it does, or you wouldn't respond to it at all.

Why do the fools keep using the Ohio, because EVERY TIME it gets a response.  Ignore it and it goes away. Until that happens, we'll get Michigan fans saying Ohio and several posts to sift through following it talking about why it's stupid.

I could care less about calling OSU 'THE' Ohio State University. I don't get caught up with names. I just call it Ohio State or OSU. It's a point of pride for OSU to be known as the preeminent school in Ohio, which it truly is on an academic and athletic level.  It is a bit much in my opinion because there are a lot of fine schools in Ohio who compete on very high levels academically and athletically; there's no real need to rub everyone's nose in OSU's greatness.  It's not like Ohio Univeristy is arguing that it's a better school.

I see nothing "ironic" in Urban Meyer carrying on an Ohio State tradition.  He is from Ohio, grew up an OSU fan, and is the current OSU head coahc.  The tradition was started by a legendary OSU coach.  The focus on Hoke is that he stole a tradition from HIS RIVAL SCHOOL.  That is unoriginal, yes, but more lame than anything else.

So with that same theory then, you have no problem saying Michigan is the superior team over Ohio State according to W/L? ItsMichigan - Easy buddy. We all know Michigan has the winningest program and we are aware of their win/loss record with OSU. (58-43-6 , last time I checked)

I am not gonna say Hoke doesn't know what he's doing or that Michigan isn't one of the greatest programs ever. Hoke coached at Ball State and San Diego State, not exactly college football powerhouses, its not like anyone can just go there and win games. I am taking a wait and see approach with Hoke at Michigan. He had great success in year one, and has been doing wonders on the recruiting trail, but lets see what the future brings on the field.

I know Michigan hangs their hats on being the winningest program in history, and thats an awesome thing to be able to claim. I'm not disputing the claim. I will say that Michigan started playing football in 1879 and OSU didn't start until 1890. Michigan has played about 50 more games total than OSU. As an OSU fan, I hate Michigan. But, I'm smart enough to respect their program for its excellence and for its place in the history of college football.

ItsMichiganFerGodSakes's picture
ItsMichiganFerG... on 27 Apr 2012 - 11:55am #

@teambuckeyes You're making my point exactly. Most people would dispute on how Michigan claims the most winning program because of the head start they had on everyone. I was just making my point when donkey punch said facts are facts. You kind of have to have some rationalization to maybe why Hoke has a .500 record or maybe why Michigan is the winningest program. I was strictly saying those statements to turn the tables on Donkey Punch and probe my point, not trying to brag about those statements.
