We were noticing all first half that Simon was not playing in the game. I informed my buddy that he was blowing up all Spring Practice and is probably sitting off to the side so the Offense could get a chance. Low and behold, late in the 2nd quarter (I think?) Simon goes in for a 3rd down play in the red zone. The play was all kinds of blown up and Braxton throws a bad pass. I was distracted after the play and my buddy tells me that Urban Looked over at Luke, pointed at Simon and gave the kill sign. Simon didn't play another down on defense, only offensive blocker for Punts.
Did my buddy see correctly? Just sick how much of a beast that dude is! Cold as hell but what a great time! Love coming up there!

In Urban's presser, he said he tied Fickel's hands...very little blitzing, no Simon, etc. My thinking is it could have very easily happened, but I didn't see it.
Well whether my friend actually saw what he said, Simon was done for the day on defense after that play. In fact, I almost think Fickell snuck Simon in on that play and Urban didn't catch it till afterwards!
That just says Simon is the incredible hulk wearing makeup to cover his green skin!
I would've liked to see him on the Scarlet 3rd down at the end of the game...which with a stop would have given Gray a chance to score a last minute TD. I saw Carter do the sign of the cross right before he got in his stance on that play which made me laugh a little bit.
I didn't mean to discredit your friend. I just meant I wasn't looking at Meyer during a lot of the game.
no no. Buckz, you didn't discredit anything or not. My friend can exagerate a bit. But it really could have happened. I just think it is a funny story whether it happened or not because that was pretty much the one play simon did play. Maybe they should have put him on Thomas! That kid is special. I have seen some spring game show outs (ie. Taurian Washington) but to get 12 catches, and the way he caught them, I am impressed. STUD!
That spring game was awesome! Had never been in the shoe before so words really just could not describe what it was like for me to step foot in there. Took my 2 year old daughter with me and she had a blast. Just an all around great time sorry to get off topic.
I'm really hoping that someone recorded the game and can verify this...it sounds awesome. There is nothing in this world that brings me more joy than bragging about John MF'N Simon.
You will have plenty to brag about. He will be an all-b1G, if not all-american, player.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

You did see that correctly!! I was on the visitors side sitting on the 3rd row up at the 40 yard line, and I saw that exact "Kill It" gesture by UFM!! I remember telling my wife that Simon was done playing. Hope this helps to validate. GO BUCKEYES!!

At what point in the game was the "kill it" given? I have it DVR'd and wondered. Although it might not have been shown on the broadcast.
The guy is a beast!! He makes the defense special! Here's to a healthy Simon.. He is also going to make it a lot easier for the young guns! Wish guys like him and hawk could have unlimited eligibility... Makes me forget about how unblockable Hank is too! Olines will have fits this year in the big ten!!
Honestly...I don't remember the point in the game that it happened, but I can assure you that it did. I'm glad I could help you out with it. I'll keep trying to remember, but as a guess...I would say late 2nd...or 3 quarter.

Yeah, I believe it was late 2nd quarter. All the first half Simon was standing on the sideline like practically on the field, dying to get in and play but he wasn't being allowed too.
In fact, I believe it was the 3rd down right before the field goal practice by Basil. Look for a 3rd down play that was blown up, braxton moved up into the pocket and he threw a pass, I believe out to Thomas (ANOTHER BEAST!!!!) and it was either knocked down or a bad throw.
The whole second half, Simon only played as a blocker for punts!
Simon was in for the first play of the second quarter. Brax threw late near the goal line and two defenders nearly picked it off. The broadcast did not show Meyer putting a stop to Simon playing that I could see. He did have Warrinner on the field on Scarlets next possession at around 7:50 of the second quarter, possibly talking to him about it then.
That was probably the play, it was a 3rd down correct? From what my friend said, he didn't talk to anyone, it was a straight "kill sign" towards the sideline with a hand pointing at Simon. It was probably the ugliest play to that point by the offense and I know Simon had alot to do with it.
Before the spring game Urban said on BTN that Simon wasn't going to play much at all, but that Braxton would play the whole game because there is so much for him to learn and every snap he took would be valuable.
Yes, Squirrel it was 3rd and 21 on the one play Simon was in at DE and Brax almost threw the pick at the goal line. The play was ugly, you're right, it was thrown way late with two defenders there. Other than the interception on the next series, it was his second worst throw of the game.
yep. That was it. Threw it right into 2 defenders and probably should hav been picked off. Something else I noticed by both secondaries, they are ballhawking! It could have easily been 5 int on the day. Miller really should have had 3 int.
Squirrel, you noticed correctly about the secondary. One of Coombs main objectives is to increase the aggressiveness of his DB's, especially to increase the amount of INT's.

They were doing it. So basically, it's a Dline that will be aggressive as hell and virtually unstoppable. A linebacking crew looking to blow up plays, Shazier is an animal and Grant and Sabino are no slouches. and if an offense can handle that, there is a secondary that is intent on grabbing as many int. as it can!
LMFAO, Simon can't practice cuz he is too good! I can't get over that!
I do think Simon is a beast! Although, I would be a little worried about the O line this year fellas.
Yup, O-Line will drop off this year from the second half of last, but the new offense will help greatly to minimize the impact compared to what it would have been under Tressel and Bollman.
Biggest wild card is Braxton's decision-making; he has a tendency to throw late and into coverage, expecting his cannon will make up for it (remind you of anyone up there?). Hopefully fall camp will make a big difference.
I remember the play. Simon had to be double teamed. Put on a hell of a bull rush in spite of that. Braxton tried to force a ball to the goal line which roby almost picked off. Only time I remember simon being in on a defensive play. How good do you have to be for the had coach to blatantly keep you off the field because it becomes unfair to the opposing offense? I know how good...you gotta be john simon good. Love urbans approach to the spring game. Get the qbs work, get the receivers in live game situations, and give the o line a break from simon. He's been kickin their ass all spring. Aside from that the d line on both sides looked very impressive with simon on the sidelines.
