Johnny Simon

Does anyone know how many 225 bench presses Simon can do now?  I believe I read he could do 40 in high school.  I am tired of reading up here in Mieechig*n that Mike Martin was the strongest DT in the BiIG last year.

I think I see where he gets his intensity from. His dad looks like he could tear a slab of concrete in half!

Thanks, DBIT  Wow, 48 is unbelievable.  He will break the NFL combine record which I think is 48.

I know Simon is a beast in the weight room, but c'mon, 48 reps of 225 lbs. in high school?!?  The top performer at this year's NFL combine was 44.  As much as I want to believe this article, I'll be honest and say I don't.  Not to diminish his strength, or that he may be close to 48 now, but no way a high schooler does more 225 lbs. reps than the top NFL combine results.

He may have been using a lifting shirt.  I forget what they call them, but it adds quite a bit to your lift.  I think it is within reason.  My son used to lift, and I can remember him working out with 225 lbs.  His max was 400 without the shirt. I'm pretty confident if he would have put his whole heart in it, and wore the shirt, he would've come a lot closer  He wasn't 6'3" though which made it a lot easier for my son.

@Buckz...do lifting shirts have an "S" on them?

They can add a significant amount to the lift...so yes, they do come w/ an S on them.  When my son was at Kent, the wrestling coach wanted him to go for the school record.  At that time, (freshman) he was maxing about 410.  The coach told him he would smash the record of around 435 at the time if he wore the shirt. I maybe off some on the record, but it was somewhere around there.  It might have been for his weight class, also.  I can't remember all the details, but I know these kids can lift a ton.  It usually doesn't translate into athletic ability, though.  That's what makes Simon such a freak.  By the way, my son didn't do it.  His reasoning was if he couldn't do it in the raw, it wasn't worth it.  He thought the shirts were cheating.
