Importance of Attendance at Spring Game?

I am going and with all the recruits being there, I hope everyone who can, will show up. Maybe even get some chants going for bosa and anzalone and anyone else of high importance? With this season being my first season trying to be in depth with recruiting. Has the spring game mattered in the past for recruiting?

I can't recall a time where the Spring game was as important as it is now.. With the excitement surrounding OSU and Urban Meyer, plus the amount of recruits that are committing early, I think the Spring game is more important for recruiting than ever before.

DMC brings up a very good point. IMO, Spring games do matter for recruiting to a certain extent. It is one of the first chances for a recruit to see a game-like atmosphere at the stadium (so attendance helps) as well as watching the team play up-close. I do think only a select few can really have that WOW factor for recruits and get them to commit or increase their interest. Among those very few is Ohio State and if people show up in great numbers it can only help with making sure the recruits have a good time. Is it a major factor for recruits? Not at all IMO, but definitely can help OSU's cause. Lets do this people.

Another thought on how fast players are committing... Think back to Noah Spence. Urban said that he didn't start a relationship with Spence until about a week after he came to OSU, so we'll put that in early December, 2011. Noah Spence committed to OSU on December 16, 2011. That is absolutely incredible to me. First, it's amazing that in today's world of recruiting that Spence wasn't already committed elsewhere. Second, it's amazing that Urban could built such a relationship with Urban despite other schools having communicated with him for months.

So, as much as I say it's important to get to these recruits early and often and that the Spring Game is important because recruits want to commit before their Senior year, there will always be Noah Spence.

Could be off here, but wasn't Spence a fan of OSU in the first place?  I thought I read somewhere that he would have committed to you guys when Tressel was still there, then verbaled to PSU because of the uncertainty with the coaching staff and NCAA penalties (which ironically shifted to PSU).  Could be wrong, and Urban definitely made it happen, not trying to discredit him.  Just saying that if he was a Buckeye guy to begin with, it might have made Urban's life a little easier with Spence.

I thought he was a PSU lean all along (until you know what happened)?  I wouldn't mind hearing some background on Spence as well if anyone knows?

I think Spence was a heavy PSU lean that would have committed there if not for their uncertainty. I read OSU never really reached out to him with Tressel and that they essentially started out with him at Square 1 with Urban.

@HAIL - Everything I saw--recruiting-wise--prior to Meyer's contact was that he had never even considered OSU.  This article mentions that Ohio State came in at the "12th hour."

Good kid, can't wait to see him play.

@Hail, the guy you read should be Tommy Schutt.

@Hodge and DMC, that's what I heard to...just wanted to make sure I remembered it right.

Could've been, Bucklvr.  I'll just chalk it up as being wrong on this one.  Still jealous you guys got him, though.

I think it's super important. Since all these recruits will be there together, if one guy gets "wowed" by the crowd/stadium/environment/etc. then he's definitely going to express that to the other guys. I don't know if you guys remember being 17-18 (only a few years removed for me) but your peers opinions on how "cool" things are is very persuading.

I would say it might not be a negative thing if it doesn't have a huge crowd, but if there is a massive rowdy crowd, it is going to have a big impact and will help Urban seal some commitments.

Don't give up... Don't ever give up.

I think that the attendance can only improve our standing with recruits. i doubt theyd hold it against osu if 20,000 people show up, because it is a glorified practice. but if theres 100k+ people there, its hard to imagine that these recruits wouldnt be impressed.

They will certainly hold it against us after we destroyed ttun for their attendance. Lantern saying 60k tickets sold already so when you factor in walk-ups and all the students that get to enter for free it's looking like a good crowd regardless of the weather.

I think it is important just the fact that if you put 20,000 people and put them in a stadium that seats over 100k it looks ridiculous. To be honest I don't remember a spring game when it didn't rain at some point. Just like when they have the Memorial golf tournament almost guaranteed rain.

It's good to be home.
