Final Members of the 2013 Class 4/30 (UPDATED 2-7-13)

With 13 members committed to the 2013 class, let's predict the final members of this class as of 4/30. We can then go back and see how we fared when the class is set in stone.

UPDATE: WOW! AMAZING TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE 9 MONTHS MAKE! ENJOY!

Let's see, we're at 13 now. I think we'll take 18, perhaps 19 if Bobek transfers. I also think someone will decommit, so I'll list seven.

I'll go:

  • McNeil
  • Gibson (probably already silent)
  • Rodgers
  • Quick OR Treadwell
  • Pocic
  • Bell
  • A JUCO pickup or Trubisky

Are you guys thinking they don't take another Qb (Trubisky perhaps) or another Rb (Green perhaps) ? I know there are other needs, like receiver and Offensive line, but looks like they could take another Qb and Rb.

My guess right now: QB Mitch Trubisky, OT Ethan Pocic, C Lovell Peterson, WR Shelton Gibson, WR James Quick, TE Josh McNeil, and some ATH to play STAR.

I think we get 21 w the Bobek transfer

( Hill or Hurst Jr also possible if Munger hesitates)

I'll go with McNeil, Gibson, Rodgers, Pocic, Bell, Quick, and Allen.

FWIW, Bucknuts published an article today in which they mentioned that the '13 class will be about 22. They didn't go into detail about projected transfers (aside from Bobek) or medical hardships, etc. but they did give that projection.

The only thing the '13 class needs to add is: Josh McNeil, 2 OL (Pocic & Rodgers), 2 WR (Gibson & Quick), and Vonn Bell.

That would put it at 19 total and Good God, what a fantastic 19 it would be. If it gets to 20-22 range, you have room for D. Green, Jaylon Smith, Trubisky, another OL, or JUCO transfer.

Here is a question if it is in fact true OSU could have 22 schollies open for this class do you think Urban would bank a few of those schollies for next year? I mean like thirdleglouie said we only really need those guys that put us to 19 and I would argue we don't need McNeil either.

I highly doubt that, if 22 spots were available, any of them would be banked for the '14 class. There are too many talented guys in the '13 class that could potentially make an impact and make this football team better immediately (Uriah LeMay, Derrick Green, Jordan Sherit, Elijah Daniel, Jaylon Smith, Dorian Johnson, etc.). Since any bowl game is off the table for the '12 season, the National Championship is going to be THE goal in the 2013 season. I think the staff uses every available schollie to load up for that NC run.

Also, I agree that McNeil isn't a "need" but he's a very big "want". Very impressive film. As a prospect, he has an unbelievably high ceiling- a lot of people have thrown out Antonio Gates comparisons with him, and I don't think that's inaccurate. He's only played football for 1 year and with his size/athleticism, he could really be developed into a special player.

I just don't see getting to 22 scholarships -- it would be great if it were true.

My guess:  Pocic, Rodgers, Dorian Johnson, Gibson, Quick, Trubiski/McNeil

Now that Neal has bowed out and we're at twelve. Pocic, Rodgers, Bell, Quick, Gibson, McNeil, Smith and any of Green, Hurst, Johnson, Munger or Allen.

To me, having 12 commit in April is astounding.  Why do we need to get to 19/20 before Labor Day?  Maybe it's time to work hard on the kids, out there, that say they won't commit until after their Senior football season is over.  Also 17/18 year old kids can grow quickly.  The "lights coming on" for a Senior compared to a Junior also happens quite a bit. True under the radar recruits will spring up.  OSU will not have any problem finding 7 or 8 superb athletes to fill its scholarship limit.

I know it's tired, but remember when OSU nabbed fullback AJ Hawk and missed out on that 5* linebacker that went to Florida State?

I understand what you are saying thirdleglouie. But what if he can't get 22 of the players he actually wants. I don't see that many guys coming into this class imo. What I am saying ya there is a lot of talent this year but it is like that every year. Idk we will see I just don't see Meyer getting every top player he wants this year but who knows we still have 10 months left.

For us to get to 22 that would mean 6 kids with eligibility past this season would be leaving the team. Obviously who those 6 turned out to be would be a huge factor in determining who the six new recruits would be.

It depends. If Hankins leaves early, they may not fill that with a DT because of how much depth we have. If we're deep, we won't take one just to fill a spot.

I'm commenting to update this up to the top of the forum. Amazing the difference in what we thought in April and the complete 2013 class.

Similar to what people are projecting for the 2014 class, this class was only thought to have 18-20 guys back in April.

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
