It once looked like a sure bet he would be in the class but its looking more and more like that wont be the case. When Zeke committed and the staff told him they were only going to take one running back i still thought the staff would take Green. But with limited numbers this year it looks like they will indeed only take one. Today he again stated the Clemson was on top but he threw in this zinger saying it would be hard to say no to Michigan. I dont think he ends up in Michigan but it tells me a few things. 1 that the staff isnt really recruiting Green very hard anymore. And 2 he may not be happy about being left out and is looking at Michigan to possibly show OSU what they missed out on.

that may very well be true, but for a powerful back like him who wants to be a feature back, michigan really does offer a great opportunity for the future, especially knowing all the great offensive linement they're bringing in. whatever back starts for them is going to rack up some serious yardage
I think he may just be playing games to get OSU to heat up on him again. There's a reason he wears #27.
Man, that bites. Still, probably speaks more to our overall depth than anything else. Great kid, wish him the best. Even if that means he winds up in Ann Arbor.
I don't want him unless Ty Isaac's plans don't involve Michigan. It Ty skips out, I'd welcome him with open arms, especially if Urban said he wasn't need any longer.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

True enough, I forgot about Isaac. You guys should come out of that one smiling, though. Can't see ND pulling him in. Then again, I don't get what Jaylon sees there under Kelly, either.
If I were Green, I would take one look at the D-Line he would have to run against versus tOSU at the end of every season (perhaps twice) and either join us or stay as far away as possible. Who in their right mind would want to run against Spence, Washington, Shutt, Bosa, Pittman, only to get creamed by Alex Anzalone, Cam Williams, Josh Perry and David Perkins, if you happen to make it past our D-Line?
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
I'd play DII ball to avoid playing against that lineup
I'm not sure what any recruit sees under Kelly. I think Isaac is all UM, which is why my guess is Green to Clemson.
I've been really impressed with what Dunn has been able to do so far with his short time on the team. Him progressing at such a fast rate will definitely take the sting away from missing out on Green, on top of the fact that RB is one of our last needs.
"Love my State, hate the football"
I don't think a recruit would go to a rival of a school he wanted to be a part of to simply get back at them. Who is to say he would even play? I am happy with Elliot and I think Dunn will progress nicely and be an awesome back for OSU...IMO, don't need Green, he should have committed when he had the chance.
I think you're right about the OSU staff not recruiting Green very hard anymore - if they're only taking one back, that definitely jives. To say that Green is upset and is looking to show OSU what they missed out on underestimates where his interest was in Michigan in the first place - high. After DeVeon Smith committed, Green went on a Michigan visit and came away very impressed. There's a lot to like in Ann Arbor if you're not a Buckeye fan.
I don't think it's about a good kid being petulent because a school stopped recruiting him - kid's got offers from Oklahoma, USC, Oregon and a host of others on top of OSU and Michigan. I doubt he's losing sleep over it.
We're at 13 and we'll only take 18?
We need Offensive Linemen. In 2013 I see Dunn, Ball, and most likely Smith and Hyde to go along with Elliot. Depth at RB is pretty good.
I want to take 4 more O-Linemen.
^^^ I agree. But there is certainly president Prescot Burgess was open that he chose Michigan over Ohio State over a rift with former High School teammate one Maurice Clarett.
But I think Green if he doesn't end up at Ohio State - something I am still hoping for - will end up at whatever school he feels most comfortable, and if thats Michigan I don't think it will have anything to do that it didn't work out at Ohio State. But thats not to say that he wouldn't be extra pumped up when he got to play the Buckeyes, and play with a huge chip on his shoulder. Which given his talent level, the thought of it kinda of make me shudder.
Keep in mind Bosa suddenly threw TTUN in his top four when they were never a threat.
"precedent" not "president"
just saying.
IMO this top 4, top 5 stuff is stupid, the kid is going to go to his favorite school. The others are all kind of just dressing on a massive list of offers. Bosa was never going to Michigan. In this case, if Green had a high interest in Michigan, I didn't hear about it until Zeke committed. I would love for OSU not to take up another spot with an RB, we are fine there. If Green goes to Michigan it would be a surprise to me simply because Clemson seems to far ahead now that OSU is out and Isaac is sitting there for UM.
I hope there is still space for him. From what I've read we've been very high on his board and he's been a Buckeye fan for a long time, but he has chosen to delay his decision in order to help some of his teammates' chances of attending college through football. I hope his admirable deed doesn't cost him.
Gordon Gee's signature is on my diploma. I'm proud of that. Class of 2008
We took a bunch of good offensive linemen in this past class. Boren, Dodson, Decker and O'Connor will all be starters at some point for us. If we get Pocic, I'll gladly take him, and Lisle is also a very good prospect, but I want Green.
We're set on the defensive line and linebacker (Jaylon Smith could still commit, and I'm sure Urban would take Hurst as well), and at defensive back (with the possibility of Vonn Bell), and at tight end. We're also set at QB, and we're good at running back. So the only areas of need are the offensive line and wide receiver, but Elliot is VERY versatile and Green's speed would play just about anywhere. I really hope he ends up as a Buckeye.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
when does Shelton Gibson announce? thanks
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
@Bucks, June 20th I believe
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
I just like this kid a lot, he looks like a beast, if he wants in I say take him. But you pretty much have to tell him he is going to redshirt unless he is that much of a beast. I mean if he redshirted Dunn would be a junior, Smith a senior, And mix in ball and Elliott. He could see the field his redshirt sophomore year and take over.
I know lots of people on here can't understand why he would like Clemson-actually, it is a really pretty campus (sleepy little college town in the middle of nowhere though), great weather, great football stadium right on campus, crazy football fans, and pretty Southern girls (this is not a knock on OSU girls-lots and lots of pretty girls at OSU also). But yeah, it's not OSU.
mmm..southern girls
"Winter is coming" - Urban Meyer
Maybe this explains why Meyer isn't goin after Green - From the BourbonMeyer article... "Bad News about your tailbacks: Maybe things will be different as Meyer transitions into the B1G, but Buckeye fans, be cautious about how excited you get about any running back that Urban recruits and signs. Urbs won a lot of games with Florida using the running back as a tool, but either never used the tailback as a feature in the offense or never recruited a 20+ carry per game guy. Florida just graduated his two best tailbacks: Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey. Combined, they likely weigh less than Jake Stoneburner. Don’t believe me?Florida’s two best “running backs” in Meyer’s tenure in Gainesville were a Quarterback (Tebow), and a Wide Receiver (Percy Harvin). Personally, I’m interested in seeing how this pans out in the B1G."
Green is an outstanding player and a great kid. It would suck to not get him, and I think he is going to be a real player wherever he decides to go. I wish him well.
I would absolutely love for us to get Green as well, but don't think its goin to happen now, with the need for O-Line & Wide Receiver. I think Elliot fits the mold more for what Urban wants out of the backfield (if it was Tress, I think Green would already be in the bag) ...I just don't think its going to happen unless something drastically changes.
I talked to Derrick Green tonight. I think OSU still has a chance. See http://www.osusilverbullet.com/ either tomorrow or soon afterwards.
Well, if he heads up North he can wear 27. Then we can show him our #27 was better.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
Yeah, let's trash him now, before recruiting is even close to being over. That'll win him back
Green told The Silver Bullet that everyone is equal, and that's he's no higher on Michigan or Clemson than any team.
He's obviously telling different people different things.
Man this kid really knows how to pander to these sports news people. He is telling everyone something different and keeping them guessing. Kids like this intrigue you to the end because they are hard to read. Well played Derrick, well played......
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
Exactly. Reminds me of Stefon Diggs!
Here is my interview:http://www.osusilverbullet.com/4/post/2012/04/recruit-talk-derrick-green.html
I hope he committs but it is clear the tone has changed since Alex interviewed him on 11w. But he says OSU still is in so until he signs, who knows where he ends up.
Except Stefon Diggs played a position that we needed, so we put up with his drama. If Green is Diggs 2.0, he can go to Clemson and play in a sub-par conference, and not have to worry about competition at his position
In talking to Green, I think he is a fine young man. Maybe OSU is not recruiting as hard as others as he has only talk to Urbs once and he seems to call Drayton but I am sure OSU will not say no if he says yes.
The actual quote per 247.
http://michigan.247sports.com/Article/UM-not-slowing-down-in-race-for-RB...
"Even though I have named Clemson my top school I would still say I’m pretty open,” said Green. “I’m probably going to narrow my list down early or late summer after I make some more visits. “Ohio State, Michigan, Virginia Tech, and Clemson are going to be tough to say no to and things could always change, especially as I take more visits.”
This kid has said he's going to drag this out as long as he can to get his teammates more exposure...he circles back more than a tornado.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
~Bo Schembechler
@Hail, DEFINITELY agree with you...he is definitely playing the "game" as much as any recruit but it would seem his purpose for doing it is for his teammates which, if I was in his position, I can understand.
Did anyone see this interview with Green on Bleacher Report?
http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/1158645-inside-ohio-state-football-...
DGrubbs - that is the same interview that Michael posted the link for above from http://osusilverbullet.com
Oh ok, my bad.
I don't get the whole idea that if he drags it out his other team mates will get more exposure. Teams don't call off the dogs because a kid verbals. Teams also have watched and will continue to watch tape on the kid and other players will certainly stick it out. I'm not calling him out, I just think it's a little naive of him to think the only way his team mates will get exposure are by him putting off a decision.
Just from the recruiting sites checking him out all the time they'll find players on his team and teams he plays against that may be worthy of exposure!
I know I'm in the minority here, but honestly I wasn't amazed by his highlights. He rarely broke away from people. He's very good, but I think he's best suited for a traditional offense. just my opinion of course. I won't be upset if we don't land him.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
I wouldn't peg Isaac into Michigan quite yet ... supposedly he's visiting U$C with his mom in June. I believe his 2nd or 3rd trip to U$C. I still think he's Michigan's to lose, but U$C is definitely one to watch for.
I know that Green is a very talented back but i was in columbus recently and got to watch practice as part of the coaches clinic and i will admit i definately was not a fan of Brionte Dunn going in but after watching the dude can fly and is physically impressive for only being on the program for months as opposed to years like the older back he was competing with. Point being i think we will be just fien without him im more concearned about teh depth at o-line the running back position is loaded especially with the addition of Elliot
@BLOCKOHBUCKEYE Isaac visited in early april no visit has been scheduled in June. That is BS. he is scUM.
@bucksanity He doesn't have a second visit planned yet, but he's considering it, which would definitely make it interesting
I saw the same thing GlueFingers Laveilli did on his highlight reel. I wish him the best wherever he ends up.
Isaac is definitely considering another visit to USC. I don't think anything is scheduled yet. We aren't panicking yet, or even if he visits, but I wish he'd just wrap this up already. We're in a similar situation as you guys are with Elliott and Green. Isaac is the bigger name, but Smith fits the mold pretty well. We have pretty good depth at RB. While we all want him, I don't know if he's a must get for Michigan.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
