Where a band member detailed the treatment they received in Happy Valley before the director cancelled all future appearances by the band at Penn State.

This week is Ohio State Week at OTE and today is the Hate Article. A PSU commenter is denying the "urine balloons" incident as mythology (as PSU fans always do). About a year ago, a band member commented in great detail on 11W on what happened that day and I want to link to it. (Even better would be for the band member to comment on it him/herself over at OTE but I'll take what I can get.)

Not what you're looking for, but Alex said this (man, I quote him a lot haha):

I went to the OSU at PSU game in 2007 (Boeckman's BEST GAME EVER) and saw Penn State male fan punch a female OSU fan in the back of the head...I had to run in my drunken stupor to find a cop but it was too late as the dirt bag got away...between that and their fans throwing urine on our band, I don't know if I can ever respect their fans or their football program.....I would boo when they come out with those boos directed at the conference rival FOOTBALL TEAM, not the university that is going through a tough time...

Also, I found this lovely little nugget as well. Penn State's administration had to apologize for student conduct after the '05 game with regards to the band.

wow hodge, i had never heard this before, thats pretty effed up. im completely indifferent towards penn state, but this makes me hate them a little more than the average B1G team.

i guess penn state regards us as their primary rival? thats awkward because theyre like number three for us....

These two tidbits are pretty effed up.

When we would go anywhere as a unit we would march to drum cadences, which unfortunately, is a super electromagnet to drunk frat boys. We soon became nearly completely enveloped by rabid fans pushing at us, throwing things at us (batteries, blow up dolls, footballs, food,unopened beer cans, pouring beers on people, and piss bombs) and trying to steal parts of our uniforms and instruments. There were sections where we literally had to push our way through crowds that were very aggressively pushing back.

Also this.

Throughout the game, since I was a sousaphone player and sat in the back of the group, we had to constantly guard our equipment and uniform because their fans were constantly attempting to swipe things from us. Our hats, berets, slide valves from our instruments, anything they could reach they would try and swipe. It got to the point we had to request some sort of security guards to be stationed behind us.

In freshman year of high school band when we played Storm Klein's school (@Licking Valley), their fans threw batteries at us and our instruments during 3rd quarter break, totally $2000+ in damage. Needless to say, we didn't return until my senior year after they had paid for repairs and new stands away from the home fans. Fans are crazy.
