I just saw that Washington received All-American honorable mention for basketball. What a freakin athlete. Any chance he sees the field as a Freshman his year?
Here is the link for the All-American team.

I could see him getting time on 3rd down plays as an interior pass rusher (same with Spence, but on the outside). He's slippery and almost weaves through defenders.
Goodness and he is a DE !

Washington will probably move to the interior. He has the frame and size for it. I think they took Schutt and Washington for the interior and Spence and Pittman for the outsize. Washington play all over the line in HS, so it's not really anything new for him I'd say. I could see Goebel spelled for third down, with a line like this:
Bennett Simon (shifted from LEO) Washington Spence/Williams
Yeah, that's scary.
@ RECRUITBUCK- Or
Simon Hankins Pittman/Washington Spence/Williams
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
I think Pittman is a true DE. I just took Hank out for speedrushing sake (more of a clogger). Easily could be different with the insane amount of depth we have. Bennett/Simon will definitely see pass rushing situations, the other two are mostly up in the air (pending Williams health and how in shape Hank is)
Wow thats quite an honor. Not too many guys can be named all-Americans in both football and bball.

Just 2011 and 2012 alone
Bennett: Army all American
Miller: UA All American
Spence: UA all American
Washington: Army all American
Schutt Army all American.
Just plain sick haul right there..and that's not including Hayes, Hale, Ferris and Pittman.

No love for Jamal Marcus?
I believe he's more of a linebacker than D-lineman...I was mentioning the great D-lineman that we've brought in the last 2 classes.

i agree with the idea that adolphus will move inside, i see him as more of a john simon type than spence, who is definitely an edge burner. seriously though, alex is right, this is a sick, sick d-line class.
Washington will play DE ... He will not play inside .... he is too much of an asset at DE, and rushing the passer ...
I believe I'll just see where the Staff lines him up and then I'll make my prediction.
Aw screw that, he will play cornerback. He's too talented not to. Could play both ways and nab some QB reps. There you have it - take it to the bank.
I think Urban will make a mutation of a 3 headed monster and call it Spenwashpitt! Something like a Hydra! Then the rest of the line will Simon (Incredible Hulk), Hankins (Jaggernaut) and Williams (million dollar man!).

@BuckinBama, the consensus is that he'll move interior because of his frame, ability, and depth at DE. He played some interior in hs.
With Washington and if Meyer gets Quick (who is supposed to be a stud bballer as well) Thad could have some good players deep on the bench! Not sure if they could start but would be awesome to see them come off the bench.
I think Washington will move around the line. His combo of speed and size will allow him to play multiple positions. Looks like Jevon Kearse to me. Huge dude with great speed and strength!
All I know is, it will be a conspiracy if at least 5 DL players on this team doesn't make the All-B1G team, at least 2nd team. Simon and Hankins should defintely be there, Simon with national honors! Spence I see making it his freshman year! Then at least 2 of Nate, Pittman, Bellamy, Bennett or Washington. and other guys who could surprise: Goebel, Carter, Steve Miller.
DAMN THIS LINE IS AWESOME!!!
While there certainly is a ton of talent, it would be an accomplishment if 3 players on the DL all make All-B1G. I haven't had a chance to really look at who'll be back on the rest of the B1G, but fact of the matter is there will be others worthy as well.
very true! There are some studs in the B1G. but nobody beats the Hulk!
Washington will play ssde/dt, depending on down and distance, and he will make plays from either spot. Tremendous athlete who will be destroying blocking schemes for years to come.
@Squirrel is getting a bit too excited. Only 4 of those guys will play at a time. If they are going to run 8-10 on the Line, then obviously the # of plays will be less for each guy. Might see Simon and one other make All-B1G, but that's probably going to be it. You just need more plays and more tackles to get those awards.
@redstorm,
agree that squirrel is a little excited, but you might be reacting a little too much the other way. Simon and Big Hank are mortal locks to be 1st team, all-B10. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see another guy, or even 2, end up on the 2nd team.
ahh: It's not that Simon and Hankins aren't deserving, or capable, of all First-Team All-B1G honors, it's just that there are plently of capable linemen on the other B1G teams as well.

^^^ I'd guess that pre-season front four would be something like W. Gholston, J. Hankins, K. Short, J. Simon. Who would you add to that list? Who would you take off?
I was talking about 2nd team as well. Simon and Hankins should be there. Spence, from all the talk, might actually be starting and if so, could be a second teamer. Williams was at one point a first team all-bigten lock. He might get back to form, I will not count him out. That is 4 of guys who might be starting this year. you don't have to be a starter to become an all-bigten player! So 5 between the first and second teams is very possible!
I am excited! This is a deep line! I bet you can go 9 deep that would be a lock to start on most B1G teams. and that wouldn't include Carter, Bellamy and Joel Hale.
Okay, I will then just say it. I predict 5 dlinemen on the all-B1G first and second teams from this line. Simon and Hankin both on 1st team. 3 others on the second team.
With all due respect Squirrel, that's not going to happen. Simon is the one guy who will most likely be all big ten again if he stays healthy..Hankins has a chance, but it's tough to put up big numbers at his position to garner alot of attention.
Spence will have a tough enough time trying to earn a starting spot let alone be an all big ten performer. We have a lot of talent, yes..but a lot of it is unproven at this point except for Simon and Hankins..and to a smaller level Bellamy and Bennett.

Washington has a long frame not really built to be put inside ... maybe a down here and there but not permanenty ... Now Pittman on the other is much thicker and he'll be the one that plays on the inside .... but all this is more then guessing ... We'll all jus have to wait and see ....
