Michigan cheats!

Ok, not really... this looks like very small potatoes.

Apologies if this was posted elsewhere... I did a quick check and didn't find anything.

I can't believe things this petty are violations.  The NCAA needs to collectively punch itself in the nuts.

this is dumb. i'm certainly not a michigan fan, but i don't see why tweeting a kid who just verballed to say congrats is a violation. but knowing the ncaa it doesn't surprise me that it is considered one.

I agree.  I don't see any problems here.

Roy Roundtree is from the same high school as McCray, so prior relationship, I dont know about other guy, but even still dumb violations.

So we discuss all things here good and bad, friend or foe, and if this was an OSU thing it WOULD get discussed here, MGoBlog has absolutely nothing about it. I find it incredibly mind numbing to see that they only discuss positive news for UM and negative for others, especially us, exaggerate it to the max, and pound their chest about their fat coach. You can also bet the scUM fans that visit here would be sure to be dropping in their two cents if it was our misgivings. Just a thought and insight into the constant arrogance that is scUM.

Fortmeyer

This was posted at mgoblog yesterday, as well as the michigan board at 247 sports

What roundtree did isn't a violation bc they had a prior relationship. What I haven't seen on 11w is this (repost reference chatsports.com article)

Current Ohio State cornerback Travis Howard did the same exact thing as Roundtree with current OSU commits Cameron Burrows and Eli Woodard (as pointed out in the comments of the article). However, Howard is from Miami, FL and didn't have a prior relationship with either recruit.

Either way, any school, this is such a dumb rule.

The NCAA has too much time on it's hands, they look into stuff like this while Auburn is giving out pay checks as we speak, give me a break.

I hope Hoke just bans twitter so this is not a future issue, seems like everything is a rule with the NCAA.

Fortmeyer, thats a completely false characterization of mgoblog and frankly UM boards in general.  This news was mentioned on mgoblog, and rightfully dismissed as irrelevant, but more to the point, negative news about UM is typically discussed ad nauseum on the UM boards.

I would equate this to stopping over the white line at a red light and getting ticketed by the photo enforced stop lights. No one was harmed, no one was endangered. It is a violation because someone says it is a violation.

As blogs go, for what its worth, I enjoy a lot of what MGo has to say about things. I don't care much for Brian's temper tantrums (see his rant about the academic board where he ended with "Enjoy the bowl game" and his comments about why OSU 'got off easy' with the NCAA, which essentially equates to "OSU got off easy because he felt they should get punished more") but otherwise he runs good blog. Know your enemy guys....and there aren't many better sources about our enemy than MGo.

The point was if you look there it is such a pro-scUM banter, being able to get actual facts become difficult. Yes they post the "news" and discuss it but in such an overblown manner at what point is it useless? I mean every recruit is the best there is, (J. Butt headline that someone compared him to Kyle Rudolph and then goes on to say if he improves basically in every way....duh and McCray noted as "the best playmaking defender they've seen in some time") come on? Really?

There are times when the threads get a little loose, I can admit that.  I also don't see them winning any type of blog awards anytime soon.  There is A LOT of OT threads which frustrates me a bit, but they do a pretty good job editing and moderating when things get careless.  I think any Pro-(insert team here) site is going to be a little higher on their guys than others; the same way that a rival site isn't going to put said rival's new highly touted commitment on a pedestal.  Not to mention, this early in the game, there are descrepancies among the recruiting services.  So if one site has a player as a top 250, another has the kid at top 100, and the last has the one at 50, you're probably going to focus on the latter.  But I don't think they're too big of homers there.  Plus, whoever starts and comments on the thread is going to have personal opinion on a commitment.  I mean, you can't tell me that there aren't varying opinions among Buckeye fans here or elsewhere.

I do agree with fort somewhat though, I've peaked over at MGoBlog a few times and have noticed they aren't big on allowing negativity.  In fact the one day, granted Michigan was really bad, Brian was booting anyone who hand anything negative to say at all.  I found that to be a joke.

The last year with the Buckeyes has been hard, I would argue worse than Michigan's bad really bad season with RichRod.  With the violations, and all the suspensions , crappy play on the field, uncertainty of the coaching and everything else, t his was a nice place to come vent.  Sure, people got tired of negativity, lord knows people said I was negative through it all, but at least it was discussed here.

I've never understood all the hoopla over MGoBlog.  I guess maybe people smarter than me can try to explain it, but it just doesn't make sense to me.  I've been around 11 W for a long time and quite honestly what they've grown into, in my opinion blows every other college sports blog out of the water.

I can't remember if it was Elika or Sarah that went over there for a preview, but I remember tons of people being banned for being douchebags, Brian and Ace (I think?) were doing their best to cool everyone's jets.  It sounds to me that since Mgoblog has gotten so popular, it's invited a massive swath of idiots who can't handle themselves--there's still intelligent discussion amongst some posters, it's just tough to keep up.  At least that's what I can discern from our Michigan fans over here.

Thank god 11W is still Indie...

I wouldn't say I'm loyal to MGOblog by any means (probably because I can't get on it at work).  I think it's popularity is mainly because they cover such a wide array of everything Michigan (and then some).  I enjoy 247sports Michigan site just as much, although their information isn't always as credible as MGOblog.

I do enjoy this site a lot (surprising since it's a Buckeye site).  My only complaint is it seems like there are a lot of dead periods with no new threads or comments.  Of course, it's probably better that non-news isn't posted constantly...maybe I should just work harder?

But just take into account how passionate you all are about your Buckeyes and how you are ready to defend them at any time/cost.  That's all us Wolverines are doing.

Well said, Hail. For every poster on mgoblog spouting off about their latest recruit, or how Hoke is making the program relevant again, we have one here talking up whoever Alex interviews, saying how he looks like "the next [insert former OSU elite player]", or how Urban is going to dominate the B1G, and so on.

Don't let the hate blind you, FortMeyer. You're pointing out that a Michigan athletics-centric blog has somewhat of a bias towards... *gasp* Michigan athletics.

I made my pledge to "Respect the Basement" and I recommend that everybody kick in.

11W has been nothing but fair and welcoming to me and I appreciate it.  The content writing is great, and the commenters are mostly very good.

MoGoBlog is a lot bigger blog/board, and as a result a is lot more uneven.  The MGoModerators are not always consistent in their treatment and to be sure some of their biggest problems are not policing rival trolls, but refereeing the intramural tribal battles over the Rodriguez era.

I'll say; I think (I'd like to think) that those of you who wish to post at MGoBlog with Scarlet and Gray on your sleeves can do so without fear of the banhammer, if you are not trolling.

Here are my personal rules for posting at 11W, which I usually try to follow:

  1. This is not my home; I am a guest and ought to act like a guest.
  2. This is no place to fight, or to root for my side.  (Of course, we are rivals; I don't post just to score points in Columbus, and I am not above some friendly pushback to defend my beloved University.)
  3. Post content that this audience might actually find useful.  A different point of view can be very welcome.  Know that the audience is going to question your position most of the time.  Make it accurate.
  4. Humor is your friend.  Nothing breaks down hostility, like humor.
  5. Respect is also your friend.  Respect for your rival actually honors the rivalry.  It makes everything better.  Respect is free; it doesn't cost you anything, and the payback can be huge.

Those are my rules.  I'm tempted to say that if you follow those rules at MGoBlog you'll be good to go, but it is not my site and they don't consult me.

@Flip, my point was that if you are looking for some information that pertains to anything scUM related as in recruit info or what they are trying to do personnel wise it is difficult at best. It's obviously understood it's scUM biased as we are Buckeye biased. The difference lies in the fact that I feel one could easily get actual info here at 11w even though sorting through some bias would definitely occur. At MGoBlog it seems to be ALL bias without any actual useful info. Sure there may be some, but to find it would be for Indiana Jones to envy. I mean McCray is the best playmaking defender they have seen in some time says alot. I have never tried to comment there nor would I.
