Great kid & Great student. Notre Dame has picked up a good one. Matuska will more than likely play on the defense side of the ball @ ND.

Was once considered an OSU lean, but with McNeil, Heuerman, and Breneman he was on the outside looking in. Glad he's going to a good program

Agree! Just glad he isn't going to Michigan lol. My son goes to school with him & I believe he would have been a Buckeye had an offer came his way. OSU wanted him to gain like 50 lbs and play OT. So happy for him, he grew up an ND fan. Definitely a TEAM guy first. Hope he can deal with Kelly's antics.

Happy for him as well. Personally, I'm hoping Hoke doesn't go for another TE. I'd rather save the spot for another position.

Hail, Matuska will be playing DE at ND, not TE.

Yes, but would have been a TE at Michigan. Plus, everything I read about the kid said he wanted to play TE in college (before his commitment).

Funny, because I'm sure a majority of the other offers he had would have let him play TE. If he really wanted to that badly, he could have. Sounds like he wasn't very solid on wanted to play TE.

Just saying that is what Michigan was pursuing him as (TE), and about his preference, again, that's what I read over the last couple of weeks. Maybe his dream of playing at ND superseded his dream of being a TE? But clearly you know every thought that goes through his head, so I'm sure you will let me know.

Makes sense to me that ND would be his dream school--Bishop Hartley's a private Catholic school (as it's name implies haha).  I'm guessing you're right Hail, his dream school superseded his preferred position.  That or he had a Reid Fragel-Like revelation where he realized he'd be better on the line than at TE (though Fragel changed to OT).

Yet Mattison (Mattison being the 'real' recruiter) whiffs again.

Weren't after him that hard and don't need another TE (3* at that). Can read my earlier post that says I'm happier to have the spot for other guys.

If that means Mattison whiffed in your eyes, I feel bad for you.

The guys up north couldnt recruit him as a DE or is TE more of a need?  or maybe they felt they had a better chance recruiting him as a TE?

O H I O is the Buckeye State

FWIW, I spoke to Jacob's father this evening at a basketball game and was informed that it was a close call between ND & Michigan. Being a fan of ND and another visit this past weekend sealed it for ND. Not sure how Michigan would have used him, but they already have 2 TE's in the class. Unless they plan to play Jake Butt as a DE.
