I think it'd be great Recruitbuck, get the students out for it and really show these guys some love! I've seen a lot of the videos on youtube from FNL and there doesn't look to be a HUGE fan presense, it'd be great to show these recruits what we're all about and get the students excited and involved in the FNL events!
Apparently other schools have similar events now. For example, UGA calls theirs "Dawg Night," managing to gain 5 commits in one haul in 2011's showcase (to Florida's zero). Cincinnatti, Iowa State, Youngstown State among others have one from what I could gather in a quick Google Search glance, but yea, its UC, ISU and YSU. It seems like its really fun for recruits, and I agree getting the students out to the event would absolutely help (thinking back no the impact fliers apparently had on Diggs last recruiting season). That could be something that would go a ways to differentiate our camp from some of the others out there, having a showing of more than a few hundred fans and really showing the Buckeye pride.
Anyone have any thoughts on how this "Friday Night Lights" type of event is going to stack up to other variations seen around the country now? Any concern that a date too close to a Florida camp date might spur southern kids in particular to stay closer to home to compete at a similar event? I'm not too concerned about competing with, say, Middle Tennessee State for top tier recruits at our camp, but I am about the impression it might send if we don't have a good turn out compared to any of the top tier programs hosting this type of event. Even Florida competes against things like the ESPN/Nike Gridiron Kings event now. Never realized what a big deal the FNL concept for recruiting had become until recently. Yeah, I read WR Khalid Thomas from FL plans to be there.
I know I've read A LOT about this, but is this open to the public?
I believe this is a great idea for recruiting players out of state.
Detroit Buckeye
Most likely will be free to public...get your chants ready for some kids
That's what I was thinking Alex! I thought this would be something for recruitbuck to organize with Block O along with some of the members here!
Sorry for the dumb question, but what exactly is Friday Night Lights?

I brought it up at our meeting today, we'll see where it goes.
