This is indeed a great story. Good post. But, for all of the "negative attention"...I think the only people that take that serious are the wackjobs out there...who would seriously be offended by that? I find it laughable, to be honest. Political correctness run amock. All of the problems in today's country & losers like Jesse Herman decide to trump this (Non)-story up. I find it offensive that someone would be that stupid and agenda-driven. I don't think Urban Meyer should have given in an apologized to the .00001% of the crybaby, out-of-whack minority that sometimes unfortunately affect the majority, of sane people, in this case. Maybe Gene Smith or Les Wexner was in his ear, tho, who knows.
I was just getting ready to post this story too! My wife is in the process of growing her hair out to do the same thing. I'm folically challenged and unfortunately would end up looking like and donating something Gallagher-esque so I can't participate.
I don't think there's really that much negative publicity really from the Lavender shirts, the backlash may be a bit much. However, so is the idea that putting a guy in a purple shirt is going to somehow inspire him to do better. You know what would make me work harder? Having a dude like Mariotti in my face screaming at me to get my head out of my ass and work harder. That's all the embarrassment and motivation I would need. In fact, something smart ass like giving me a purple shirt, would inspire me to mock the punishment and wear that shirt all the time everywhere. I have never, nor do I know anyone, who would take something like the purple shirt idea seriously.
If there's a certain group of folks who want to make a big deal about it, so be it. Obviously, there are more people fired up about their comments, than there are folks who were fired up about the purple or Lavender shirts to begin with.
Way to go, AJ. My wife has donated her hair to Locks for Love a couple times.
As for the lavendar shirts, I didn't feel Coach Meyer's apology implied there was something inherently wrong, but fighting it may have made the battle way more heated. I thought he did the right thing by responding eloquently, and maize and blue shirts might be a suitable replacement for the lavendar shirts. I know I wouldn't want to be caught dead wearing maize and blue!
EDIT: I'm sure I've offended scUM fans, but screw 'em!

Well said, Bucks43201.
thanks. It is ridiculous - the whole thing's so blown out of proportion and juvenile.

Meyer shouldn't have apologized... That's an admission that there's something inherently wrong with what he did. What he should have said was:

I am mad that people are mad about being mad that someone is mad.
But mostly I'm happy that AJ Hawk looks like the AJ Hawk that I took ASL with.
