Adam Breneman declared via Twitter that he has made visits to every school that has is sincerely interested in, but he is ready to announce a decision and it will come March 9th at 7 PM. Long considered to be a heavy Penn State lean, it sure seems he is going to go that direction- especially with them bringing in Hackenburg to play quarterback yesterday. Thoughts?
Adam Breneman @AdamBreneman87
I am now ready to make my decision. I will be announcing my commitment on March 9th at 7 pm in the Cedar Cliff HS gym. Open to the public...

*fingers crossed*
I read that he will decide between Penn State, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Maryland. (source via Twitter)
Welcome to Urban Nation! #GoBucks
Are we still going to see your interview Alex?
i would say his interview is still gonne be intact, but I am going to be at a conference in Miami all day on March ninth with limited internet access and no internet on my phone, that day is gonna suck!!!
Thats the day before my birthday. Maybe I'll get an early birthday present <3
If he had taken more time, I'd feel better about tOSU but he's 100% PSU IMO
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
I think he goes PSU... but I would not be shocked to see him go S&G... we were the last visit and it was all positives... I'd say 90% PSU 10% OSU
Cause I couldn't go for three
yep. seems like a Penn St. lock.
BoB seems to have a little more recruiting momentum than i expected.
Yah, all he has to say is "Have you heard of a guy named Aaron Hernandez or Rob "Gronk" Gronkowski?". I mean what TE wouldn't want to play for a guy with a offense like that? Although, like Alex said earlier, why is he committing now? Seems like the Fed's are ALL over those guys!
Another way of looking at it is Urban can say do you know why you've heard of a guy named Aaron Hernandez? We showcased his talents at Florida and that's why he's playing on Sundays.
He's going to Penn St. Too obvious.
I just hope we can pull Foster from there.
If I remember right Alex, didn't you say before he was projected to play linebacker in college? Now I'm noticing all this TE talk here and in the mailbag. Dude was a burner and did like what I saw from him on the offensive side better but was getting excited for that speed roaming around in dead space.
I don't like that people impute Belichik and Brady's success to assistant coaches who likely had little to no impact. Look at mangini, crennel, and mcdaniels. All failed.
Definitely a TE. However I don't think deciding early is necessarily a bad thing for ohio state, you would think if he was committing to Penn St he would wait a little bit at least to determine if any sanctions were coming. I'd say 75 PSU/25 OSU
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
Agreed Pharmbuck. He just took his OSU visit and it went well. I think either A) he realized after the OSU visit that no one is going to meet his level of enjoyment as PSU did or B) OSU visit worked out for the best and he knows it's between the two. Probably A, but if he was going to ever pick OSU, it makes sense he would announce shortly after the visit.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
I think OSU gets him. Deciding right after his OSU visit?
GBM I think you are thinking of Alex Anzalone.....
Interview will be up at 5:30 EST today....
Not sure which way this one goes but here are the facts:
This will be OSU or PSU. Either the OSU visit sold him completely on the Buckeyes and he is committing to Urban next Friday or he is going to Penn State and wanted to see Ohio State just to make sure Happy Valley was the right place for him. Complete toss up and hard to bet against PSU but OSU definitely has a shot.
I think with the talent we have at TE on the roster currently (not saying they eclipse Breneman) and him being a PSU fan, I just see him heading to Penn State.
You know what too? Good for them, good for Bill O'Brien. I'm all for kids staying home and playing for their favorite colleges...BUT....
If Urban pulled a fast one and he is coming to Ohio State, watch out because this class is going to go down as one of the greatest coups (even with the relatively small number) in buckeye history
COME TO OHIO STATE!!! WE WOULD MAKE THIS GUY A STUD!!!!!
Patriots may have used the tight ends, however they also had tom Brady throwing the football. I don't see PSU having the weapons necessary to really use Breneman. Just my two cents!
I would like think the surrounding talent would way heavy on my decision.
"We have always had the best damn band in the land, now we have the best damn team in the land"- Jim Tressel 1-03-03
My guess 60:40 PSU-OSU didn't he say he had an amazing time on the OSU visit too?
Would be tough to commit to PSU right now for any kid. What is coming as far as sanctions? These players could be facing some bad news around the corner. How unfair for these future players to come into a situation and the university receive a USC like penalty on the program. Rolling the dice for these guys IMO.
Found this funny.
Yeah I'd have to say PSU if I'm guessing
Either way I am glad he is getting this done early. That means we can focus on other guys if he is out, and means we get a nice bump and focus on other positions if he is in. Obviously we want him pretty badly, but at the end of the day the early decision can help us move forward.
This is good! If Breneman picks PSU (and many think he will) then we get Heuereman and McNeil at TE this year. If Breneman picks us, then we get Breneman and Heuereman.
Either way you cut it we get two studs in addition to the depth we already have.
i like the way Hayze is thinking here. and its my thoughts as well
I haven't seen film of McNeil, but I certainly agree Heuerman would be a great TE at tOSU as well. I wish Adam the best in his decision, although I do hope he chooses the good guys.
Obviously he's a PSU lean & has been for quite sometime. NEVER count out Urban & Co. that's for sure. It would be a nice pick-up, but Heurman will be an excellent pick-up & he will be a buckeye as it's just a matter of time.
Shendig
Based on school offers and National want/perception, Breneman and Heuerman are in completely seperate leagues. Breneman, who is pretty much guaranteed going to PSU, would be a HUGE get. Heuerman would be a good athlete who has potential and a nice get to add depth to TE.
"Love my State, hate the football"
Just another PSU recruit for Urban to flip later on ;)
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I live in Adam's hometown and will be attending his press conf. I would find it very hard to believe and would be totally stunned if this young man in the middle of PSU country and 1000 rabid PSU fans announces he is going to OSU. It would not be a very pretty scene.
psufan I was thinking the same thing cause it reminds alot of the Diggs announcement.
but than stranger things have happened
O H I O is the Buckeye State
Well he's choosing between the man that made Aaron Hernandez effective and the man that inherited the offense (at NE) where Hernandez and Gronkowski starred. I don't see PSU having a Tom Brady anytime soon, so I don't think he'll be as effective as he could be in that offense. Remember Bill O'Brien did not invent NE's offense, he was essentially promoted to OC and was a figurehead for BB's offensive genius.
I think the quickness of the decision scheduling was based on the commitment of a top 5 pro-style qb to PSU, not the recent OSU visit. I'm sure he was doubtful about the prospect of the passing game at Penn State, and now that it seems brighter, his reservations are probably gone. A part of me thinks that it's possible that he signs with us, but in the end, I think it's wishful thinking.
Rumor has it he'll visit OSU again before his decision. Would bode well for OSU. Can anyone confirm?
Not true...not visiting OSU again....my final guess is PSU
Alex, I think these rumors came from Scout boards, there's talk all over them of him visiting OSU again this week. However, like here they are saying the rumors aren't true. I also agree that PSU seems like where he's going. They've actually had a pretty decent start to a class (3 4*'s I believe) however, and this is IMO of course, I wonder what will happen once the Fed's start coming down on the university? Could we see a mass exodus of recruits from the program if the NCAA decides to hold the football program/athletic department accountable in such a way that it could impact scholarships/bowl bans etc. Not saying it will happen of course (and we could debate all day on if it should), but I'm just surprised so many are committing without knowing the future.
http://ohiostate.247sports.com/Article/What-I-Am-Hearing-64239 is what I am referring to
I don't know if it was Breneman he was referring to in the preview.
Breneman to Penn State, per this report: http://blogs.mcall.com/nittany_lines/2012/03/source-penn-state-to-land-a...
I love how the title is so definitive "PSU to land Breneman", when it starts out with, "Dont be surprised IF"
ugh, whatever, I just wait for announcements, cant trust 'sources'
Bucknuts was talking about Anzalone...I spoke to Adam tonight...he is NOT taking another visit to OSU but made sure to stress he had a great time...still think it's PSU
This may not be the exact thread, but I'm looking for a commit sometime in the "near future"! Alex, who's it gonna be or a better & possibly tougher question than that is WHEN is it comin haha (more than likely not Friday as that's my guess)?
Shendig
I know I'm not Alex, but I think the best bet is Gibson on the 20th (his birthday). Also possibly Courtney Love but nobody has a clue when that announcement may come.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I won't be too disappointed with the Breneman announcement. Heureman (sp?) is solid and I'm really excited for Mcneil (think we can definitely get him). It seems as if North Carolina is full of undervalued talent (in terms of recruiting sites) a la Jamal Marcus. Something tells me both Mcneil and Marcus will be special players down the line. Mcneil is starting to rack up some really great offers. Glad we got Withers on the staff to tap into this growing hotbed of talent.
I am really impressed by the work Withers is doing with the NC recruits. I totally agree with you FLBUCKEYE.
Everett Withers is staff MVP on the recruiting trail right now FWIW
Didn't know it but evidently one of Breneman's favorite players is Tebow- something him and Urban talked about a good bit on the visit fwiw. I still think he's all PSU but it's one of these Lloyd Christmas "So you're telling me there's a chance" type things.
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
Looks like this blogger isn't so convinced that PSU is a lock for Adam. I just thought it was interesting coming from a PSU blog site.
http://victorybellrings.com/2012/03/07/adam-breneman-to-penn-state-hardly-a-lock/
FWIW...I read on a Bucknuts Breneman thread yesterday that a poster on there has ties to the family and said all Adam has been talking about for the past week is tOSU and how Urban will be making them the next national powerhouse. Take it for what its worth but its there. I wont be that disappointed if he does go PSU and stays home. I really like our other 2 prospects.
I like Breneman, I just think when all is said and done he will be a nittany lion. I will be happy with Heureman and esp. McNeil. McNeil would be another prospect out of NC, and I would love it if the Bucks are able to consistently get talent from that region.
If this was the old days, it would be a no brainer. Tress vs. Paterno...the kid would definitely be a lock for psu. But its not...if you look at the nfl this year, you would see that the tight end position is being used far differently than the traditional extra blocker with good hands. Your seeing tight ends split wide, being put in playmaking situations. As a kid who probably has serious nfl aspirations, you have to look at where this new breed of nfl tight end was prepared for the league. Aaron hernandez is one of the perfect examples of that. And he played in an offense under urban meyer that utilized his skill set masterfully. Sure, o'brien was the guy calling the plays in new england this year. Tom brady was the guy throwing the ball though. Makes a world of difference in my opinion. You've seen what meyers offense can do with a tight end. O'brien didn't draw up the playbook in new england. He took someone elses, and relied on Brady to make his playcalls work. If your using that as basis for why he would choose a school, id say urban has the clear advantage there. That's just my take on it.
LuckyNutz,
I read the same comments a couple different places regarding O'Brien 'just' calling the plays and not drawing up the playbook. Not to be argumentative and say that you're wrong, I just don't see why calling the plays versus creating the playbook (for lack of a better term) would make a difference to a high school kid. What O'Brien did in New England worked really well for tight ends...I don't remember the Pats utilizing tight ends in their offense until this year. If that's the case, the selling point would be that O'Brien tailors his offense play calling to the talent on the field (the anti-Rich Rod). This bodes well for PSU.
I do understand the allure of coming to OSU where Meyer's track record for success (and for developing talent at the NFL level) is outstanding. But, Meyer didn't invent the spread, he runs a version of it.
Of course, all of my commentary matters little if you were implying that Belichick was the mastermind behind it all...
jw
Im pretty sure Cam Burrows said at one point the fact he grew up an OSU fan would have no affect on his decision. Which we know wasn't true in a good way lol, he's all Penn st unless Coach Meyer pulls out his first big suprise steal while at OSU.
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
