rivalsmike: I don't have the reason why #OhioState won't be taking Davonte Neal, I just know he tried to commit and couldn't. Well sourced. #RivalsNSD
Does this mean Diggs has silently verbaled? Or some change of heart in attrition?

Cant imagin passing on a world 5 star player
Bueller... Bueller...
BS. You don't see "silent commits" after NSD. If Neal wanted to commit, we would have taken him with open arms. Diggs is in no way exponentially better than Neal to where we'd turn down Neal at the chance to get Diggs. That is just plain stupid.
Hurray for teh interwebs!
There are silent commits if a coach wants to let the recruit make their own announcement. I think it was a first come first serve situation. Meyer wanted Neal to commit last week. He didn't. Stefor commited on his visit, but still wants to give his home school of Maryland the courtesy visit. Then he will officially commit next week.
Not an insider or anything, just what makes sense given the current info.
Indeed, vested. If we get neither of them, OSU should be overwhelmingly happy with this class. We can get through one year with our current weapons (Miller, Hall, D. Smith, Stoneburner, Hyde, Brown/Spencer). We are going to have a successful year, and then comes the all-important year 2 for UFB to win us our title!
Honestly sox, I'm all for open season at every position and may the best stud win pt whether they're a frosh or not. I'm actually hoping for it. No more blind allegiance to upperclassmen who clearly haven't earned their time. You've got practice to prove you're the man for the job, not game time. I can't help thinking how much better off we would have been this season were that not the case usually (Bauserman, Joseph)
What better year to do so? No B1G, no bowl...let incoming recruits know that they have a shot at pt early if they do well.
Agree 100% Vest. That was Tressel's biggest flaw: an unabashed, inexplicable devotion to untalented upperclassmen.
On that note, with our recruits this season, why don't we consider a 3-4? It might not work in the B1G on paper, but damn:
Spence-Schutt-Washington
Perkins-Roberts-Perry-Williams
Marcus and Pittman rotate at Leo.
PS: Luke Roberts will be a star. This kid is a 3* because he didn't have a lot of hype through the early years of HS, but he went from being not rated last July to a 2* to eventually a 3*. He is incredibly smart, very fast for his size, has a non-stop motor and is a leader. We are looking at Laurinaitis II. Seriously, this kid has Buckeye legend written all over him, and he will be a captain by 2015.
Doesn't add up. Only way we would not take him is if we don't have any ships left, for him or for Diggs.
take them both!
if it's b/c a scholly #'s thing --- attrition will take care of itself...there's ALWAYS a few additional (2-3) players who transfer in the summer...always. You can not pass up on either of the talent available with these two. Diggs is #1, i.m.o., but Neal is not far behind.
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
I thought I heard/read when the punishment came down, the scholly reductions could be applied any old way over the next 3 years? (2-4-3, 0-0-9, 3-3-3...) If we can get two 5 star, blue chip burners who fit perfectly in Urb's offense, why wouldnt we take them both? Did I dream this?
We can only have 82 guys each of the next 3 years, there is no flexibility with that.
@ Jerkyrizzo21
I believe that when we self imposed scholarships, we stipulated that we could mix and match over the years. However, when the NCAA increased it to 9 total, the official document stated that they must be reduced by 3 each year.
Apparently nevada at Scout spoke with one of his insiders in the program about Neal and Diggs. Sadly I'm too poor to afford premium to read what was said...
