Stefon Diggs on Jeremy Lin

Immediately upon signing, these kids should really get a social media precaution (read: instructions) book along with their work out manuals. Actually, this might be sent upon receiving a scholarship offer in hopes of avoiding classy comments such as these

erikmagnuson77 Erik Magnuson by katzfan71 @ @ katzfan71 I don't care who ur gettin. Ur a bunch of bitches. **** ohio. U'll be hatin life for the next 4 years trust me.

@IamJoshG can you please come to michigan with me so we can shut these faggots up at ohio who are talkin bout how good their d line will be

Funny that UM stopped going after Yuri Wright after his slew of comments, but you didn't hear too much about Hoke's response to comments such as these? Granted I'm sure some of our kids have made similar idiotic comments. I just hope the immediately subsequent article would go along the lines of having incurred the wrath of Meyer. Which I guess we will have the opportunity to see (either way) March 6th when this trash site promises Meyer will be "humiliated" by his players.

But I digress - all that just to say kids are going to say dumb things, things they honestly don't understand the true meaning behind. Things that the media is going to jump on like vultures in an age of needing to get the scoop. Its the job of the adults in their lives (parents, teachers, coaches) to set them straight. Hopefully that person will finally come along for Diggs in college. Unfortunately, the adults in his life seem to have failed him so far this far. Easy to say we're glad from this headline, but if this is the worst he does in 3-4 years at Maryland and he otherwise get set straight into a great kid and college player, I know I'll still wish we had landed him.

Wow, I bet Stefon would love to have some fried chicken and watermelon smack thrown his way.

I am as guilty of the next guy at making corny jokes in the hopes to get a laugh, but ethnic jokes really really are lame not to mention offensive.

vacuuming sucks

Diggs is much more immature than his peers and glad he's not a Buckeye.

Buckpirate, was that second tweet from Josh Garnett?  As in the one who committed to Stanford?

Why all of the fake anger over a kids tweet? Stupid? Yeah, but so are most things young athletes tweet about today. Look at the stuff already linked above, then the guy that played for Florida not so long ago and look the stuff that has been reported lately. I am certainly glad we aren't the recipient of this negative attention. Maybe there is something to that theory that kids that wait until after signing day are more trouble than they are worth? Why all the outrage over minority jokes in the media but when a Caucasian joke is issued there isn't even a blip on the radar? I find it strange that the source of the three most controversial tweets on the Lin subject did not originate from a Caucasian. You would expect that there would be some out there, and I am absolutely sure there is. I would believe that being a minority would make you more sensitive and understanding to stereotyping. I am just trying to understand why this happens. Like I have always publicly stated, lets have equality for all please.

I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.

@Bassplayer no both those tweets were by Magnuson.

Yeah, that makes more sense.  I should have known with the "@" at the beginning of that second tweet...

We have our own guys that tweet stupid and sometimes very offensive things. Have you read any of Devan Bogards tweets? He was on a roll last night and lost some followers because of it. I think he may have since removed it but still. We can't throw stones if we have some of the very same things going on.

Now, with that being said I realize they are just "kids" and will say and do stupid things but these kids really need to schooled on social media, cameras, interviews etc.

High school and college kids swear and say offensive things?

dubjayfootball90's picture
dubjayfootball90 on 24 Feb 2012 - 6:46pm #

still, they are representing something bigger than themselves and should know better than to represent their school and what their school believes in such a poor manner.

I say that these tweets represent the school because it they do. The school has trust in the coach and athletic program, saying that the athletic program irepresents the school an the coach represent the school. The recruits that the coach brings in represents the school because the coach believes those kids best can best represent the school on and off the field (well it should be like that anyway). So once a committment happens or even when the kid is being recruited, what he says is a reflection on the school, wether one likes to admit it or not. That is why I hate twitter.

sorry, my response may be a little illogical, but it is my thoughts.

I just think, in the grand scheme of things, the moment they are being recruited, they represent what the university is looking for in a student athlete, that is all

Maybe I'm off base and if so feel free to remind me, but it seems as though we had a lot less foot-in-mouth syndrome while Tress was at the helm than ever before. I think it's quite an accomplishment given the social media explosion. This is one aspect of the old regime that should have some focus behind it.

I realize we had a few here and there but not like we've been witness to recently, damn.
