I'm not sure I understood entirely the NCAA penalties. Are we losing three scholarships each of the next three years, or is there some flexibility and we just have to lose nine scholarships over the course of three years?

9 schollies over the course of 3 years. does not have to be 3 yearly.
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
No it does have to be 3 yearly
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
^^^ These are conflicting posts.
It's 3 yearly

The NCAA report reads as follows- "Limit total grants-in-aid in the sport of football to 82 for each of the 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years."
So yes, it is a reduction of scholarships from 85 to 82 for the next three football seasons. 3 per year.
Thank you!
It is 3 yearly....we must have 82 scholarship football players (no more, but can have less) by the start of each academic year for 2012, 2013, and 2014.
Lol there has been soooooo many posts on this lol.....its 3 yearly. We can NOT break them up. I believe Alex broke this down a few weeks ago.

Please excuse my idiocy, I was distracted by an e-mail sent to me by Craig James that asked about a good place to dig 5 identical holes. Weird.

So, to go a step further, OSU is at 81 scholarships right now according to Urban. If we go into next season with 81 (meaning we don't get Diggs), can we then move up to 83 in year 3? Does that make sense?
This whole Neal thing is why I didn't want to get too involved with recruiting. :/
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
DMC -
No, we can only have a maximum of 82 for the next three years.
And regarding your Digg's scenario, that scholarship can be banked for next year.
My first post at the 11 Warriors, great job Alex, Jeremy and the rest, Great Coverage for signing day
No DMC. Ohio State cannot have any more than 82 scholarship players on the roster for each of the next three years. It doesn't matter if we have 80, 81, 82 kids on scholarship this year.
However if we only have 81 scholarship players this year and we lose 15 kids after next year to graduation, early NFL, transfer, ect that drops us down to 66 scholarship players and we can then sign an extra player (16 total) to get back to the 82 scholly limit.
That's why Alex says if we don't get Diggs or Neal to finish this class we will bank that extra scholarship for next year and in my opinion we need to offer Mike McCray and keep the Trotwood pipeline strong even tho we already have Burrows and a sick LB class this year.
Okay. I understand the banking one for next year, but my main question was whether we can go over 82 for one season if we go under it for a different season. You would still get a 9 scholarship drop, it just wouldn't be as clean. It appears that answer is no.
