Okay. I've seen reported that Ohio State will finish #1 or #2 in the final 2013 recruiting rankings (247 sports/Rivals/11 Warriors). I am asking the opinion of this website as to why some might think we'll finish so high. We're only 3 weeks removed from signing day and I don't even know who exactly people see us landing to make a class so good 11 months from signing day. Is it because we have Urban Meyer as our HC who typically pulls in top 5 classes? Is there info out there that we're not seeing? I just don't get how analysts can predict how our class will finish when we really don't have a full list of players we're in on. I do believe we'll have a top 10 class. But right now at this time, I'm not seeing the #1 or #2 "evidence" if you will that suggests we'll finish so high. Can anybody help me out?

1.) Urban is a hell of a recruiter.
2.) Urban recruits top talent nationwide.
3.) Urban is the best "closer" in recruiting.
4.) We'll end up playing the hat game at the end with very talented guys.
5.) Even more "top talent" will be identified after the upcoming high school football season.
6.) After some recruits see what Urban does in the spring/fall, more guys will be attracted to the program.
Not sure where you're missing the evidence. Yeah our numbers arena huge yet but you said it yourself: we are 4 weeks removed from signing day. And urban already has 2 5* and 2 4* recruits committed. I'd say that's a great start to a top 5 class for next year
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
The JOKE is gettin' all the 4* for TSUN, that leaves all the urbertalent recruites for TOSU."Nuff Said.GO BUCKS!
I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.
Something to do with Urban Legend.....
O H I O is the Buckeye State
Let's just say that we get-WR-Foster, QB-Zaire, WR-Gibson, LB-Smith, OL-Lisle, OL-Peterson, ATH-McCray, RB-Issacs, TE-Huerman, OL-Pocic. These are a few of the larger recruits on our radar and I would bet that we get atleast %75 of these guys. Along with the 4 we have already verbaled I think this class is top 5. Anyone agree??
@ADAMAN
I agree with you. Def will finis in the top 5. Urb would not have it any other way.
I guess my main focal point of the question was ... how can recruiting sites predict we'll have the #1 class 11 months away? It's a predetermined guess without factual basis IMO. I understand Urban is an excellent recruiter/closer et al. but, 2013 isn't here yet and our class can't "officially" be judged to be #1. Michigan currently has the #1 class and the evidence is there. I don't see why people think we'll ultimately finish #1 when our class isn't even filled. I guess if they're "predicting" it's only a guess or they have some sort of crystal ball.
3 of the 4 recruits that are signed right now could end up 5 stars before it's all said and done. I'd be very surprised if Marshall and Woodard don't climb in the rankings when all is said and done. Say Gibson, Foster, Smith, and Zaire are the next 4 recruits to jump on. That is a freaking AMAZING first 8 recruits on board.
I love the fact that we got Urban Meyer and all and its great that we don't have to watch anymore boring offenses but there are a few things that I'm worried about.
1. Being that Michigan tried a spread offense in the B1G and look at how that turned out. There's a reason why we never ran that type of offense at Ohio State. Sometimes you have to run the type of offense Ohio State was using up north. Thats not to say that Meyer's offense won't work compared to the likes of Michigan, Purdue or Northwestern and I think it will but I am a little concerned.
2. While I don't have the stats in front of me, I do recall Meyer's final season with Florida. I remember seeing somewhere where Muschamp said he was shocked to see how much the cupboard was bare at Florida when he arrived.
3. It seems like everyone is pinning their hopes on a savior in Meyer and maybe he will be but I guess what I'm saying is don't put the cart before the horse on this one. I remember when Tressel won his NC with Ohio State. Most of those kids were with Coopers recruits.
However in all honesty, I do believe the Buckeyes will be much more succesful under Meyer than Tressel. I loved coach Tressel but I could NOT stand some of his philosphies like saying the punt is the most important play in football or his conservativeness. I think there were a few games we should have won had it not been for conservativeness. I also believe that it IS Ohio State and it will always be good because it always has.
Tressel didn't win that NC with Cooper's recruits, he won that NC with a freshman named Maurice Clarett.
Class of 2016. Go Bucks!
@High
So you're saying it worked in the SEC, but may not work in the B1G?
Haven't Purdue, Rich Rod's Michigan, and Northwestern all had great offenses at times. I remember when Kyle Orton at Purdue looked like the 2nd coming of Drew Brees if not better. Northwestern has had a lot of success offensively, but they've given up a ton of points on the other side of the ball. DickRod's last year at Michigan offense certainly wasn't their problem. I think the notion of the spread not working in the Big 10 has been shot down time after time. In fact, I'm pretty sure there was a post by the 11W X's and O's guy last week or 2 weeks ago adressing this very topic. Meyer's offense will excel in the B1G, period.
Not to mention we have essentially the perfect spread quarterback...
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Didnt we run a lot of spread with Troy Smith and company? Pretty sure we ran a little with pryor as well, unless I'm seriously mistaken about that I'm pretty sure those were some of the best offensive teams we've had in a long time.
Imagine a lighter Tebow at Florida with Bracton's speed, burst, and cutting ability. Hyde would be your power back role, but Brax will tear it up.
What we did with smith wasn't really a spread. The shot ginn was a little different. That offense would have been dominant if we had run an actual spread. But yes there was a small amount of spread with Pryor though I'm not sure he really knew how to run the spread...
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Pryor could hardly tell where the hell the 1st down marker was half the time, no way could his pea-brain run the spread
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
Because it's a prediction not a statement of facts. It may come true or it may not but there is some factual basis to it. The prediction is based upon the fact that there is a susbstantial amount of mutual interest between OSU and many highly rated recruits. Also we have commitments from 4 highly rated prostects already.
Swede, I do agree that it's a prediction. I'm excited that so many of these guys are predicting our class to finish neck and neck with Alabama. At the end of the day, I don't think finishing #1 means much as opposed to filling our team needs. I hope that we can fill our biggest need with at least 4 offensive linemen. The Walrus left the cupboard extremely bare and weak.
It will be exciting to see Percy Harvin II (Marshall) in the spread offense; on top of that possibly adding Robert Foster and some other skill speed playmakers we desperately need.
A #1 recruiting class means the team filled their needs with some really good talent.
Some of the best recruits were at Florida when Urban left and the only bare cubbard was the coaching staff when Urban left because alot of his asst. coach's moved on to.
Because of the recruiting Urban did at Florida & his first couple months with the Buckeyes 2012 class and the great start he has on the 2013 class would suggest that he will have a #1 class in 2013. All he has to do is finish the 2013 class the way he started it. Dont worry about hoke and his class because the real game will be played on the feild.
O H I O is the Buckeye State
Saying the spread won't work in the Big Ten is nonsense. The reason Rich Rod failed at Michigan isn't because of the offense. He was a very good Offensive Coordinator. The reason Michigan failed was because his team was soft and he didn't pay any attention to the defense.
Type of offense doesn't really matter. Type of team does and Rich Rod's was soft. Urban Meyer's isn't.
Was Bama's number 1 class and Urban's number 4 that much different overall? Eh, probably not. Urban's class had a higher overall star average, had 2, 5 star recruits and was very good. Getting number 1 doesn't really mean anything to me, but consistently having a top 5 class with multiple 5 stars and very high star rating average matters to me.
Trust in Urban Meyer
