From the mgoblue board:
A few thoughts. One is that it could take a while for this group of coaches to gel. There are not a lot of existing relationships here. There could even be some turnover as things shake out over the next few years. Second, I guess Meyer is in control, so maybe it doesn't matter who his coordinators are, or how many there are. Nonetheless, he seems to have emphasized hiring coaches with significant experience as coordinators, which could cause friction. Third, for what it's worth, there is a stark difference between this situation and Michigan's last year. One of the principal reasons Michigan's 2011 season went so smoothly was because the new staff was able to work together immediately and without rancor. The players pick up on this.
After reading the scUMs opinions, what do you think?

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas...
wishful (hopeful) thinking
This is what they do. Everything OSU is taken, turned around, upside down, and reasoned to the place that they (UM) are better off. The Mattison recruiting issue was tops for me. All I'd seen was Urban wasn't going to be able to recruit because of Mattison. Urban had said Mattison was the best ever when he was at Florida as he does with all his coaches. Hah, they didn't get one guy late and Urban hit home run after home run. Its a joke what they come up with. Trying to ride that one win for as much as they can possibly get from it.
From some of the tweets I've seen from the staff, it seems like they really get along and have some fun with each other. I think they'll be fine. Plus, I think Coach Meyer will make sure his staff stays aligned with his vision for the team, and I'm sure that was a big part of why he hired these guys in the first place.
It's amazing to me how, last year, we couldn't care less about the cohesiveness of scUM's coaching staff, or really anything about the new regime up there. I don't think any of us still could care less. The stench of desperation and anxiety from TSUN is getting to be overwhelming, and for good reason. They had a chance this year during recruiting to finally take a serious shot at OSU and set themselves up for success and we still beat them. It's good to be king.
My take is.....use this year to get all the wrinkles ironed out...then bust out of the gate in 2013 making a conference title run....have to wait and see if they will be primmed for a national title run..why I said conference title first.
its really stupid. scUM is looking for anything to try to make themselves feel better. Didn't Meyer hire coaches that (paraphrasing) "share the same philosophy" as him? As in, the type of offensive/defensive tem that Urban wants to run, he went out and got the guys who can help run it because they believe in the same system?
When all coordinators believe the same thing and can teach the same strategy and philosophy that Urban is implementing, where does the friction come from?
I know they won eleven games, but I don't know if I'd call their transition "smooth." Not to say that eleven wins isn't a monumental accomplishment, it was heads and shoulders above expectations. But the beloved pro sets that Borges and Hoke wanted to install were jettisoned by midseason because Rodriguez' players hadn't smoothly transitioned to their offense.
They're just rationalizing, that's all. I think that they're just trying to think away the sour grapes they're feeling becuase Meyer has OSU back on the up-and-up after one of our worst seasons ever with NCAA sanctions. They're just now turning the corner from the Rodriguez debacle, I'm sure it's infuriating to see your bitter enemy go through a mile of shit and come out clean on the other side (Shawshank Resemption, anyone?). Think about it, they settled for their second choice in Rodriguez and got their third choice in Hoke, we hired Meyer two days after Hoke's most vindicating victory.
Of course they're going to expect the staff won't jell, H8ERZ GON' H8.
I love it - things like that are written out of fear...

Eleven wins is Eleven wins, but they did dodge Wisconsin and Penn State on the schedule and it was one of the worst Ohio State teams if not the worst in the last 20 years or so that they beat. They also got lucky to draw a Va-Tech team that really wasn't that good in their BCS bowl. We'll see how "back" Michigan football is when Bama rolls into town and beats them by 3-5 TD's.
This doesn't concern me much for two reasons. First, every fan base trivializes the accomplishments of their rivals. Second, they are bringing up fair points. Sometimes hiring a lot of top talent can be detrimental to an organization. The most recent example of this might be the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles "Dream Team." The roster had many believing the team was primed and destined for a title run, but without ever getting the parts working together, they went 8-8 and missed the playoffs.
I don't see this being a problem in our situation, but it isn't out of the question.
Class of 2008
The Eagles "dream team" was a load of media BS. Any non-biased eye took a look at that roster and realized they had huge GAPING holes at LB and safety (sorry Kurt) and to compound that issue they made the OFFENSIVE LINE coach their DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR. Anything short of a record breaking injury free season by Vick spelled doom for them.
"You're pissed because we went after a committed guy? Guess what, we got 9 guys who better go do it again," said Meyer. "Do it a little harder next time."
I look at it this way.. I would much rather play against Hokey & company than play against Urban Meyer and the Urbanaitors....
O H I O is the Buckeye State
High Comedy. They are pissing their pants ALREADY. I couldn't even name a Michigan assistant coach if I tried (other than Mattison of course, and that's because they have some sort of creepy fetish for him and mention him constantly)

MGoBlog features the same individuals who think Hoke is a wildkly successful, accomplished coach over the course of his career, to the extent that he has the acumen to rival Urban as a HC. The men of Michigan are impervious to reason.
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
It's amazing how different the tone is on that site then here at 11W....all they do is whine....let them whine and complain till November!
HOKE WON WITH RR PLAYERS NOT HIS OWN . JUST A FLUKE . HE'S NOT THAT GOOD OF A COACH BUT A CHAMPION OF THE BUFFET. OWNER CHINESE BUFFET SAID TO HOKE YOU LEEB NOW YOU EAT EBREYTING FAT ASS
Aside from the fact that most of these coaches have strong O-H-I-O ties/ connections, have stated that this is a dream job for them, are excited by the opportunity to learn under Meyer, said they didn't even have to consider wether or not they were taking the job when Urban called.....yeah, I can see how the rationale that this staff is full of narcissistic egomaniacs pervades in Missagain nation.
Comparing Meyer and Hoke? Really? please. I guess they're so delusional because they assume (from their coach-hiring experience) that you just don't get your 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th choices for coach to say yes.
Or, were most of them discussing the staff at Ohio University 'cuz I really know nothing about Frank Solich's group
WB
This is the same group of fans that feigned disinterest in the Meyer hire because "We beat him once with St. Timmy at QB". As if that has anything to do with anything.
This is the same blog that went on long winded rants about how OSU's punishment wasn't severe enough but didn't bother explaining what precedent should have lead to a stiffer penalty. It wasn't enough strictly because it wasn't enough.
This is the same fan base who fall back on 100 years of history when discussing Michigan's 'dominance' over OSU but cringes when met with questions about the last decade under Tressel.
On the same note-this is the same fan base that feels JT's indiscretions undo his dominating decade over their beloved Wolverines. They've essentially made the connection that free tattoos=competitive advantage=discounted wins.
This is the fan base that has said the rivalry is reset and its now "Game on" from here on out. Now they feel that way. Not when we embarrassed them on national TV 9 out of ten times.....but now....now its game on...
This is the fanbase that says these things. Nothing they say should shock you. Nothing they say should offend you either.
In nine months, this is the fanbase that will accuse Urban Meyer of being classless because he didn't take his foot off the gas against his team's biggest rival.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I think this is what they are afraid of!
NCBuck1: Awesome pic...love it.
@NCBUCK1 They've felt it so many times in the past 10 years, you'd think they would be used to it by now
"Love my State, hate the football"
I tust Urban's judgement a hell of a lot more than some tsun dorks!
