Okay, I admit it, I'm confused. By all accounts Malik has a scholarship from The Ohio State University. But this board appears pretty convinced that this scholarship is not being honored by Urban Meyer and his staff. Or at the very least it's not a committable offer.
First thing I want to know is: how do we know this? Was there a source that leaked this information? Did Malik tell Alex this? Did Urban say this? Are we just reading the tea leaves here?
Unless you guys can link me to the source of this info then I HAVE to believe that this can't possibly be the case. We need at LEAST 2 scholarship quarterbacks in this class. We aren't getting Swoopes, and I'd be shocked if we get JT Barrett or Bucky Hodges. While you can make some arguments that Chapman and Trubisky are pretty good, I think that most of us would admit that Zaire is the higher-rated qb prospect in Ohio. And the fact that he's a dual threat qb makes him pretty well suited to Urban's offense.
So, what gives? Is this some Davonte Neal type stuff where Urban met Zaire and his family and was turned off for some extra-curricular issue? If I could have one wish it would be for Alex or Jeremy to "catch up" with Zaire and make this clear one way or the other.

I've been confused on his schollie situation as well. An espn article has malik saying he will announce by the end of march or early April at the latest and he also states OSU is in his top 5 schools be will be choosing from.
this is one kid I would love to land. I believe Alex has stated that, when it is all said and done, Zaire will be a Buckeye, but the confusion is there for sure.
Spoiler: Zaire actually has an account with this site. True story.
This just got real. Malik, what's the word?
I agree with you he is definetly one I want bad, he footwork and movement in the pocket resembles Michael Vick alot and he's got a cannon
I hope that he commented on this article.
Let me guess, DMURDER?
I hope we get this kid, I don't want another freshmen Starting at QB anymore, we need Zaire to come in this year get a redshirt year under his belt and that way if Braxton leaves his junior year he could be ready and if braxton stays Zaire will be ready as a reshirt sophomore. Also I wonder if Meyer is trying to find that big QB like tebow, its hard to stop a big QB like that look at the guy at Oklahoma last year, like 10 TD's and all he did was goaline stuff.
I'm surprised Meyer hasn't gone after Zaire harder. He easily seems like the best QB in the state. Also I doubt Braxton leaves before his senior year. I think that in the end OSU would get Zaire and Trubisky. They seem like the two quarterbacks that are very mobile and can throw well. Nice spoiler alert Jason.
I think he knows he'll get Zaire.
I agree with Recruitbuck in regards to knowing Urban Meyer knowing he'll land Malik Zaire.

let's be patient...I think the staff wants to see these kids throw this spring...highlight tapes can be decieving
Quick follow-up: He's never actually commented on the site (to my knowledge), but he most certainly has an account here.
Big Swede, you are awesome.
Alex, still want to know where you got the info that his offer isn't committable just yet. Can't find it anywhere.
Zaire just told me he wants to announce end of March or early April.
I never said the offer wasn't committable, it may have been Jeremy who suggested that though. Malik told Jeremy he wasn't sure if it was or wasn't. I am asking him for more clarity now.
I definitely hope Zaire ends up at OSU, I definitely think he could replace Braxton and be very good here under Urban and his offense.
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
Alex does the fact that you're talking to him mean we can expect a "catching up with Malik Zaire" soon?:)
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I still think we get Malik. I bet he waits til late April and commits at the spring game. Then Robert Foster commits not long after:)
Foster said that he didn't like the recruiting game and would decide as soon as he knows what he's doing. So Zaire and Foster's commitments will probably be fairly close to eachother (fingers crossed)

So Alex, just clarifying.....YOU STILL DO EXPECT MALIK ZAIRE TO BE A BUCKEYE COME LATE MARCH EARLY APRIL RIGHT?
Shendig
@JShene...
Yes. It's also likely we'll land an OOS QB.
Alex, instead of a lot of these people asking dumb questions I have a real one: Do you still expect Malik Zaire to be a Buckeye come late March, early April?

Zaire would be the 1st QB I'd take in this class. His accuracy, at least in the videos I've seen, is way ahead of anyone else I've see. Lefty or not the kid can sling it.
Fan of bacon since 1981
I agree Nappy, I like keeping the best Ohio kids in Ohio going to OSU, as I stated earlier in this thread, I think he fits the mold for Urban perfectly, when people are comparing you too Mike Vick's game, gotta mean something.
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
I don't know much about Zaire, haven't watched his highlight film. I only know about him what is displayed on the internet (11 Warriors and Scout). I read allot of people dissecting recruits by their highlight tapes. I don't watch those highlight videos, because I always think to myself... Steve Belisari, Justin Zwick and Joe Bauserman had impressive highlight videos too.
How can you correctly gage a player's future, based on a montage of good plays against unknown players and conditions. For instance, a 40 yard run against Amanda Clear Creek's first team defense is impressive, but a 40 yard run against Amanda when they are ahead by 30, the scrubs are playing defense and there is 1 minute left in the 4th quarter is not as impressive.
@JohnBlair, you can't predict a kid's future, but if he is put in the right system and coaches are able to develop their talent then they can become great players, unless they're guys like Clarett or more recently Sammy Watkins who come in right away and tear it up.

Urban Meyer, left handeed quarterback, I think I've heard that one somewhere before.
I live here in kettering, where he plays his high school ball. If I know one thing, its that alter has been one of the best teams in this area in recent history. I'm going to have to try and catch one of his games this season. I like what I saw from his highlight video...level of competition doesn't change the fact he's hitting the deep ball to his receivers in stride. You can make the argument of the fact better competition will have tighter coverage...but the fact his receivers aren't waiting on the ball shows he has some zip on the deep ball, and he's putting it where it needs to be. That in itself is a good sign. And he's a lefty...and very elusive. Definitely would like to see him in scarrlet and gray.
This kid is special, and Buckeyes have to feel good about Zaire. Notre Dame just offered him today, and Wisconsin is also a late player to get Zaire. I believe his top 3 is Nebraska, Pitt, and Ohio State, but he recently said that he is putting Wisconsin and Notre Dame on his list. He should make his decision in a little over a month. I guess he is going to visit Nebraska some time in March, and likely trips to Wisky and Notre Dame will follow. Then he should make a decision.
Getting Zaire is pretty much a must for Ohio State in my opinion. I still feel really good with Zaire with the buzz around campus, but anything can happen.
Watched a highlighy video and, as a passer, the kid looks like a witch to me - nice mechanics, accuracy, zip, timing. Not sure if he'll be a serious threat run-first guy, but looks dangerous on scrambles, broken plays. Is he going to grow any bigger than 6'1?
I expect Zaire to announce when OSU/Meyer officially offer, not sooner and not later.
I want this young man to commit to OSU very badly. IMO this is a MUST get for Coach Meyer & Coach Herman. There's no doubt that OSU will be "right there" in a great position to land him when it's time. He seems like a great kid (solid academically, gifted athletically, well-spoken, humble, respectful) & EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE! I think those are qualities & characteristics that ANY coach wants in a high profile recruit.

Saw on Bucknuts that Malik was offered by Bama yesterday and his interest level is high and it has made him seriously rethink his situation. Will this push Urban to extend a legitimate commitable offer to Malik or are Urbans sights set somewhere else?
It seems like Saban and Meyer may be playing a little bit of wargames with their recruiting tactics. I don't think Zaire's offer from Alabama is committable, I just think it's Saban putting pressure on Urban with someone who's perceived to be favoring the Buckeyes. Similarly, Evan Lisle was offered by Bama and then quickly committed to OSU. Maybe it's just pressure on OSU?
I heard that he won't annouce by the end of March now like he had planned. Bama may become a real player here...

Hopefully Urban puts on the press then for this guy, accuracy can be fixed, talent and speed can't
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
I really like this kids game, I hope he dons the scarlet and gray
