How do you know the coach didn't set it up? Or that the studio called and asked if he'd like to do it? Let's reserve judgement folks.
The game is at 7pm, so the announcement is after the game. But the timing does seem odd.
Maryland knows (knew) it was the underdog in this race; it could have changed though this weekend after his visit, I don't know. But the Terps knew it would be an uphill batttle. If he commits to Maryland, local fans will be happy, and if commits elsewhere local fans won't be pissed, IMO.
This is from 24/7 board after J.C. Shurburtt predicted Diggs will select Maryland.

^I have really begun to doubt that anyone (possibly even Diggs himself lol) knows where he's going at this point. I've literally heard a different answer from every "insider" out there over the last two days. Apparently he's going to go to Auburn, Ohio State, Florida and Maryland all at the same time. Each of these guesses have been based on "sources close to the Good Counsell program" as well--so either he's telling everyone he knows something different, or he just honestly hasn't decided yet (which I think is most likely) and people close to him are merely as lost to the answer as we are.
Ah well. FWIW an ESPN Florida guy thinks the fact that he's declaring on the DC Comcast network means he's going to commit to Maryland. But again, who knows? Likely no one.

It would certainly be a strange scenario BB919 that's for sure. He would be looking for the wrong kind of attention otherwise. These kids want love and adoration for their choice. For that reason I would have to say its got to be Maryland unfortunately.
I'm still going to hold out hope until I hear it. In Cleveland we never thought Lebron would get on national tv and say he was going to another team either. We see how that turned out.

If he's announcing AT the game, then I'm almost positive it will be Maryland. If not then I think Ohio State stands pretty good
The article BUCK U linked says he's announcing in studio (a DC Sportsnet studio I'd assume--ala the equivalent FSN Ohio in DC I'd imagine), not at the game itself.

At the same time, as LouGroza mentioned, why go on a DC/Maryland-centered TV station to say you're going elsewhere? Gotta think he's a heavy Maryland lean, otherwise it seems a little like rubbing salt in a wound. Then again, perhaps I'm overthinking it? Maybe that's the only outlet he feels he has, wants to praise Maryland while at the same time explaining why he's going to be committing elsewhere.
The whole situation is confusing, but I have to say my bet is it's going to be a Maryland commit based on choosing to do it on a DC/local TV network (as opposed to twitter or a local high school).
I think everyone is really overthinking this one. He's doing it on a DC metro TV station, because he's from the area. It's not like he's going to fly to Ohio, Alabama or Florida to announce.

I'd like to go on the record and let it be known that I think people are reading WAYY too much into the details of the announcement itself. Doing it on a local news station makes sense.

Should he go announce in Florida if he is going to UF so as not to spite the locals?? local news channels are aware that a local kid, who just happens to be one of the best recruits in the nation, is announcing Friday. If I worked at taht news station, I'd do everything I could to set up the venue for said kid to announce and hope to get some ratings/interest.

Just joined the site. Saw it mentioned on 24/7 sports and decided to check it out. Been lurking for a bit to see what was up over here. Must say I like it very much! I want to say thanks to Alex for all his info and this great site! I want to be a regular over here and spend (more) time with fellow Buckeyes.
Aside from that, I have a good feeling about Diggs. I've been scouring the web for info ever since, oh maybe, 3 weeks now. I agree with other posters that being on tv in Maryland doesn't necessarily mean bad news for us; it means he lives in the area and that's where he'll announce. Remember Jordan Hicks? I'm pretty sure he was on local tv and reporters covering his recruitment when he announced his allegiance to Texas.
We'll find out in a few short days. I have a (good) feeling he'll be the final piece to a fantastic 2012 recruiting class!

I think I speak for all when I say that if he's not going to Ohio State, I'd rather he go to Maryland than Florida or Auburn. I'll be happy with our class regardless of the outcome with Diggs.

-As for me sticking with Diggs to OSU, I have info that the staff feels good about their positioning with Stefon and I haven't heard anything other than troll internet rumors to make my thinking change. I think a lot of people switch their predictions based on the latest buzz out there, but if you were predicting this one you would have had him to Cal, Auburn, Florida, OSU, and Maryland based on the buzz off all of his visits. I don't think anyone has this one nailed down and I'm not going to say bet the house on Diggs to OSU. I personally just felt like it was OSU last week and just because there are rumors about UMD this week after the visit buzz, I am not going to change my guess. Hope that makes sense, but as I said, DO NOT BE SURPRISED IF DIGGS PICKS ANY OF THESE 5 SCHOOLS.

I can respect Stefon wanting to take his time to make this big decision, and he's generally keeping quiet about his decision, so it isn't like he's giving false hope to every fanbase. I hope Stefon picks the Buckeyes, but best of luck wherever he goes.
yeah, feel bad for the kid. he is just thinking it all through. national signing day is just the first day recruits are allowed to sign, not the day it has to be done. I mean, think of it this way, TV reporters and anchors have to sign contracts for X number of years, which means the cities they apply to, they have to be very sure they want to live there for X number of years. So, they cant just blindly apply anywhere and take the first that comes their way. If the average person doesnt like their job or city they are in after 3 months, they can start to look elsewhere for something different. Yes Diggs can transfer if he hates where he decides, but why go through the hassle?
Any chance that there is an clandestine verbal commit to Urbz...and it's just been kept under wraps? GO BUCKS!!

I think that he knows where he is going, but he's playing games with the media.
I think it was wise of him not to make a committment right after his MD visit. It gave him some time to seperate himself from all the emotions of his last visit and look at it more as 'what is the best choice for me'. I hope that bodes well for us. It also helps Florida, though, because they have been his long time favorite. and have had the opportunity to build a long lasting relationship.
Not really sure why he would select Maryland. I know he's from there, but they aren't exactly a football powerhouse!! If he's a talented as everyone knows he is...I could only see him at one of the other schools. My personal opinion is Urbz already knows where Diggs is going, and as it has been said/reported that's why Neal is no longer on tOSU radar. My gut feeling is that he wants to be in a premier football program...and he will select the only logical choice...tOSU Buckeyes!!

More speculation on the ESPN insider front. They have Mike Farrel from Rivals and Laura McKeeman from Scout reporting that they believe Diggs will be choosing Florida. Like previously stated though nobody truly knows where this kid is going to go except for him. Nobody can get a read on this kid and I personally find this whole thing pretty ammusing as far as all the speculations go.

What the heck does that have to do with the price of tea in china... (# of recruits that TOSU signed this year)? I mean, he's the playmaker at the skill position that even Urban has said that this class lacks! I don't understand that at ALL Dan Hellie!! Friday can't get here freakin soon enough! Try as I might, to NOT get too wrapped up in this recruiting but I am a 150% invested Buckeye fanatic and it just doesn't matter, I cannot escape it! I am eagerly anticipating this Friday at 10PM but am not going to lie, I will be PISSED if he chooses to go elsewhere. I will stay classy about it but in the back of my mind, I will hope and pray that TOSU gets to play whatever school he chooses instead of us, and that we commence in kicking their asses up and down the field....JustSayin........

I would not take his tweet to serious. Florida signed a WR and two ATH in this class. A player of his talents should not worry about the other WRs OSU signed, he is far more talented than all 3 of the WRs we signed. I am sure Urban has explained how he would be used and the other WRs do not fit the type of player he is looking for as he explained in his press conference. He wants a player that can stretch the field horizontally.

I posted this in the forum so that others would see it but I think another coach, possibly Fla., is telling him Urbz oversigned and it will cause issues. SEC recruiting right there.
We have a great class, Diggs would be icing on the cake considering how late Meyer was able to engage him. A single player, however great he might be, will not make or break this class. And the next year is just around the corner and promises great hunting. I hope we get him but I am still very very happy with what we achieved. Let's wish all recruits well where ever they go - unless they play against us or it's north of Ohio.
