Seems to be a lot of hate towards Hooley out there. He is new to the Cleveland radio market- seems like a douche- just wanted to know why everyone on here seems to dislike him.

What Hooley had to say in the days after the Tressel trouble began was largely factual. That doesn't excuse him for trolling the hell out of the emotions of everyone in Columbus (and gleefully doing so), however.
I listened to him on 97.1 and he had good days and bad days. But he always talked crap about Ohio State and all kinds of things. Did he not know he was in Columbus? I was very glad they got rid of him, I like the Big show, common man and the torg as well. They are OSU homers but they get the otherside of things in without bashing OSU.
He was night & day with OSU though. He seemed to derive pleasure from bashing OSU in regards to football but absolutely loves Thad & BBall.
total douche. read any of his articles on foxsports and if you dont puke after a couple of them you'll figure it out. soooo glad when 97.1 gave him the axe!

Appreciate the insight. He seems to think he is some kind of expert telling me the Browns aren't a good football team during my drive time radio- thank god I can get the SVP show on a different station. Doesn't take much to realize the Browns suck- gets old hearing it over and over and over again. Any time you will take him back in Columbus the beers are on me.
As a Tribe fan I hated Hooley for ever talking about them. Let alone his hatred of Tress.

I get to listen to Hoolz on ESPN 850 and, while I don't know him personally or what went down at 97.1, I have to admit that I agree with most of his sports takes and I think he calls it as it as. It can get frustrating becuase sometimes fans just want to get caught up in their bias, but I think it's important that parts of local media remain objective. It's a fine line that people need to tread lightly on and apparently he hasn't exactly been careful on that line in the past.

I listen to Hooley for years and I thought that he always brought a more realistic and not always homer version of sports in Columbus. Obviously that is not going to get you alot of fans but I always respected that he was willing to give the listener the strait truth even if it stung a bit. Nobody ever wants to hear the reality side of things and that is fine if you like to keep a sheltered view of what the rest of the nation thinks of our Buckeye's. I thought it was refreshing to hear another veiw of things. I guess it got him fired.
I see Hooley's attitude as a Cowherd with brains and a general love for Ohio sports. He can be a (insert swear here) but he's generally factual.

He's really not as bad as everyone says though he probably went a little over board in the imediate aftermath of the revelation that Tressel lied. You gotta know your audience (rabid homer OSU fans) AND your boss (OSU).
didn't get a chance to listem to him much...so basically the dislike stems from the fact that he called for Tressel's resignation in March (at that point, he was just going to be suspended)? Fans couldn't take it, but oh wait, he resigned anyway....Am I missing anything there?
He didn't just go a little bit overboard on the Tress situation -- he completely beclowned himself. For a guy that seized any number of opportunities himself to talk about morals and values and discuss his religion, however circumspectly, he did not miss an opportunity to crucify Tressell -- yes, I WILL use that word -- any time Tress stepped the least bit out of bounds. The bottom line with Tress, is do you believe him or not (regarding his motiviations for keeping things under wraps). The amusing/infuriating thing about Hooley is that despite his holier-than-thou attitude, he revealed himself not just to be a hypocrite, but a dunce, as well. When your boss tells you to STFD and STFU, you do it, or you pay the price. I've got no sympathy for the guy.

Bruce Hooley Does not hate Ohio State. He actually has a degree from OSU and is proud of that degree. Hooley was hard on Tressal as he should of been. However he did not call on him to lose his job. You don't have to agree with everything Hooley said but the man was legitimate. Being a Columbus native the fact that 97.1 dismissed him for his comments was just embarrassing. Now all we have is the comman man and the retard. Bruce Hooley is greatly missed
@Wildman...you do realize Hooley was on from 1-3 and CM&T are on from 3-6? They'd be there regardless. Rothman and Stanley filled the slot of Hooley (who was previously on from 3-6 with Herbstreit and Speilman back in the day...I say that as in like 3-4 years ago).

Bruce Hooley is not missed. Regardless of the Tressel stuff, he was still terrible. Rothman and Stanley are so much more enjoyable to listen too. I like when the radio guys don't make things so serious and joke around while discussing things. DStanley, Rothman, Common Man and Torg - perfect with this.
Listening to local sports radio is an almost guaranteed IQ killer.
