Keep hearing he's a "lock" to PSU. Alex, you agree? Hard to believe he's a lock to a school that is still in shambles as far as their football program is concerned. I guess we'll see after Monday? Just a one day visit?
I'm sure O'Brien is selling him on Hernandez and Gronk at NE, but then Urban can sell him on Hernandez at Florida. We'll just see how this unfolds. I hope he has a great visit.
Problem with comparisons to Hernandez and Gronk at NE is that PSU won't have Brady throwing to them. Hernandez at UF is a better comparison as to what he can expect at OSU.
Read his Twitter. Based on things he tweets and insider info available on other sites, he seems like a PSU lock. Like I said on the 2013 offer page, he reminds me a lot of LTT with Michigan.
This is fact: Breneman grew up a HUGE Penn State fan
That being said, he has told me numerous times that will not play a factor in his decision, although I don't completely buy that. Any of you that grew up die hard OSU fans know it would be awfully hard not to take a full scholarship to go there.
I think if anything happens penalty-wise with PSU that could be a factor, but I'd have to say PSU is definitely the early "favorite" if I was a betting man.
Urban definitely has a good shot with this kid....him and Heuerman would be a huge haul, but IMO if OSU gets Heuerman I am fine with that at TE. Anyone else is gravy
I feel like we have had plenty of guys in the past few years that grew up huge Buckeye fans and gave us the middle finger when it came to playing here. I feel like nowadays all bets are off when it comes to what school a 5 star guy is going to play at.
@recruitbuck: And if LTT were to visit somehwere else he would no longer be a lock IMO. Lock and visiting elsewhere are usually opposing concepts. The kid may visit a place fully expecting to not see anything which changes his mind about his "lock" school, but that is where the real hay gets made in recruiting, in the changing of a recruits mind on a visit.
What I am saying is there is a reason it is so huge to get a kid on campus. If you can get them on campus you have a chance with them "lock" or not.
PHXBUCK...who grew up a huge Buckeye fan that we offered and didn't come here? And not just a "I rooted for the Buckeyes" but a die-hard fan...Hicks? Wasn't an OSU fan....Walker? maybe...DePriest? not a HUGE Osu fan.....
as far as the comparing to gronk and hernandez in new england offense. and the whole but he wont have tom brady to throw to him at PSU thing. im pretty sure Mat Cassell who didnt play since high school did pretty well in that offense when brady went down. so, the system is pretty solid id say. just my observations though.

Josh McDaniels was the OC in 2008 when Cassel filled in for Brady. Last year was Bill O'Brien's first year as the Patriots OC. He is far from the architect of the NE offense.
@Big Swede. im aware of this. just trying to prove a point that Tom Brady isnt as good as his numbers may suggest. the system Belichek has is very very good for any QB it seems.

Don't want to get too off topic about Breneman so I'll just say that I don't completely agree with this as I feel it's more Brady that makes the system work than Belichek, agree to disagree I guess.
Just curious - to a 17 or 18 year old kid, how much do these details matter? The new staff, the issues they still face, the stain on their reputation, so on and so forth I mean. Last year was one thing, but at least now there's something somewhat in place and things are moving in a direction that isn't a hell hole. I'm sure someone like Breneman is a bright kid, good head on his shoulders. But if he grew up a lifelong fan of a school, that's a lot to overcome. If he doesn't already see PSU as "tainted" in any way, nothing is going to dissuade him from the Nits. Fact of the matter is, that program is nothing like what he grew up loving in the past. Wouldn't you think that would bring that back to the pack already (which we haven't really seen from his actions so far?). And I won't get into the fact that what he was loving all that time... I'll stop there as I'm already starting to feel dirty. Urban's good, but we'll see just how good he really is in pulling in these types of kids this recruiting cycle - when the excuse of being late in the game isn't quite there anymore.
1. Dan, I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure in order for anybody to succeed they have to be in the right system. And Matt Cassel got signed to KC Chiefs and led them to a playoff berth so let's just stop w/all of that.
2. Alex what do you think is the probability of getting Breneman and Heuerman?
I like to believe that my best hits border on felonious assault.
Alex, do you think the possible additional implications about the Penn State scandal will affect Breneman and the other likely PSU commits? With the hush money possibly putting PSU back into the news, do you think it will place more of a bear on their recruiting process? Interested to hear your (or any of the other 11w staff's) opinions on the matter.
As for the scandal, I think it hurt PSU the worst in 2012 (Reeves, Williams, O'Connor, Schutt, etc.)....I think we have to see what potential penalties could come to see how ugly it could get...a lot of 2013 kids probably won't look at them because of it...there are kids like Breneman that you thought would be scared off though and aren't as things are quiet on that front...for now
I can't see someone committing to Penn State for 2013 with the status of Breneman until the picture becomes more clear....maybe Adam surprises me, but if I was advising him, I think I would tell him to wait on committing to Penn State until the situation becomes more clear...that is just me, as I would want my kid to make a commitment that is actually a commitment and firm
Pretty similar to Ohio kids waiting to see what tOSU's punishment would be. And you can't fault a kid going to his dream school (Penn St.) if in fact that happens. I know to us, it makes you think "how could any kid go there" when in reality I don't expect Penn St. to completely fall of the face of the earth. Sure, they'll be under scrutiny for quite some time, but I just don't think to certain kids that it's going to stop them from committing to that school.
Adam needed a day to get home and relax and think about some things...I am going to try and catch up with him later tonight, but from Steve Wiltfong ($) I give you a snippet:
Per Sean Fitz of Lions247
"Was able to swap a few texts with Adam Breneman, he told me he would be giving Bill Kurelic from Bucknuts a call later today for a full update. He said 'my mind was spinning' so he wanted to take some time to get his bearings.
On his visit, he said "It was great. I spent a lot of time with Coach Meyer and got a good feel for their program. I got to know Coach Hinton petty well and got a good understanding for how they would use me in the offense, like [Aaron] Hernandez was used at Florida."
I'd say that's a good early return! Meyer doing work
I'm guessing this means Breneman to Penn State coming soon. I'm not sure of any other "big" players close to Penn State. Obviously Farrell has been wrong in recent times with these predictions, but take it with a grain of salt because he has been right a lot too.
Mike Farrell @rivalsmike
Could be huge commitment coming soon for #PennState I am hearing. Tease, tease.
I can't help but wonder, which is more impressive (or important) to him - Hernandez as a Patriot, or Hernandez as a Gator? Given production was similar, and the Gator's use of him is what landed him in the pro's, and also given Meyer can probably lay claim to more credit for the Patriot's offensive success than the BOB can:
After the New England Patriots 2004 season, coach Bill Belicheck and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels went to Gainesville, Florida to meet with Urban Meyer, scout some of his offensive players and discuss the spread option with him. Over the next few years, they would form a great bond and change the New England Patriots offensive attack from an old, smashmouth, Earhardt-Perkins offense left over from the Charlie Weiss and Bill Parcells era, to a new spread attack.
Yea yea the BOB called the plays - but with that system and that group in place, its like saying Norv Turner was what made the machine that was Troy, Emmitt, and Irvin go. Does seem to be a nice guy (much like Norv), but think the pedigree may be overstated.
Breneman will be announcing March 9. Hard to imagine it won't be Penn State
Adam Breneman @AdamBreneman87
I am now ready to make my decision. I will be announcing my commitment on March 9th at 7 pm in the Cedar Cliff HS gym. Open to the public...
Well that was a bit unexpected. I thought he just said once he narrowed down his list a bit, OSU would most likely be on it. Not only did he narrow the list down within a couple days of saying that, he's ready to just come out and annouce. You can't predict the recruiting game
Has to be PSU. Can't hate on the kid too much, though. He grew up a diehard fan. New coach, new program. I do think it's a bit short-sighted to commit now and not wait to see what happens when/if the NCAA hammer falls on PSU. But this choice is more about the school and less about their football program.
Alex since you're interviewing him tonight, how hard will it be for you to not just come out and ask "who is it?"? OR is the interview off because of him setting an annouce time/day? #edit, sorry saw you must have interviewed him last night?

PSU hasn't been kind to skill players as of late.. Great to linemen and defense, but not known for producing quality skill players.
I'm sure O'Brien is selling him on Hernandez and Gronk at NE, but then Urban can sell him on Hernandez at Florida. We'll just see how this unfolds. I hope he has a great visit.

Any kid who visits somewhere else is not a lock yet. Very early in the game.
I feel like we have had plenty of guys in the past few years that grew up huge Buckeye fans and gave us the middle finger when it came to playing here. I feel like nowadays all bets are off when it comes to what school a 5 star guy is going to play at.
@Dallas,
LTT visited lots of places; he was still seen as pretty much a lock to UM.

Anyone have any info regarding his visit so far?
No one will until his visit is over and he's home.
Working on this for you guys.....

A lot of PSU fans think it's this guy: http://247sports.com/Player/Christian-Hackenberg-13446
Was that guy behind Cardale Jones at Fork Union?
If it was, you have to like he had a guy who he started ahead of that has a offer list like that!
Cardale was ranked the #1 Pro-Style QB in the nation by 247 his senior year of high school.
I think it is a QB
Looks like the "Huge Committment" is QB Christian Hackenberg to PSU not Breneman. I'm sure Alex will confirm.
Yes it's Hackenberg as I posted.
Hackenberg
Will be interviewing Adam tonight by the way and should have more on his visit and where things stand

Also, Urban got a ring with Hernandez-- BOB did not.
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
Would a kid commit to a school if he hasn't experienced a gameday atmosphere?
Breneman will be announcing March 9. Hard to imagine it won't be Penn State
