Here's my projection:
QB: Miller / Guiton
RB: Hyde / R. Smith OR Dunn
FB: Boren / Homan
WR: Philly Brown / Reed
WR: Devin Smith / Spencer
FL: Jordan Hall / Fields
TE: Stoneburner / Heuerman
LT: Norwell / Decker
LG: Mewhort / Underwood
C: Bobek / ?? (Boren or walk-on)
RG: Linsley / Hall
RT: Fragel / Dodson
DE: Simon / Miller OR Spence
DT: Hankins / Goebel
DT: Bennett / Bellamy
DE: Williams / Hayes OR A. Washington
OLB: Shazier / C. Williams
MLB: Grant / Klein OR Perry
OLB: Sabino / Marcus OR Perkins
CB: Howard / Grant
CB: Roby / Reeves
SS: Bryant / Johnson
FS: Barnett / Brown
I like those projections, a few things I have heard is that they might put Simon back to DT since we actually have true DE's now. That would move bennet to back up and allow for Spence and a few others to fight for the open DE spot. And at least with the last staff they used an 8-9 rotation so Simon could play DE and DT like he did this past season. Another thing is I heard the Joey O'Conner is supposed to be really good and could contend for a spot on the line or at least be a solid back up. And I expect there to be a lot of compeititon for the LB spots, Shazier is really the only lock, sabino will probably start but he will get pushed, and I don't think Klien has a shot to start he didn't show me much last season.
I don't see O'Connor getting much time at least not early because he came from a triple option offense, he's gonna need to adjust
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I'm guessing

@BuckeyeJason- Kid from Mass=Reeves
Is there talk of Fragel moving from TE to OT?
"Love my State, hate the football"
Oh that's it thanks! Yes Hes moved to tackle..not sure if it's Rt or LT but heaved down. He's supposedly 290 plus right now
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
Fragel confirmed his switch to OT on twitter.
@UPNORTHBUCKEYE, he already moved to OT and changed his # to 77. I imagine he'll start at RT if everything goes smoothly.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
Oh yea, I just looked into it. I thought he was a pretty good TE but I guess we have Stoney/Heuerman and are in need of some OTs...so as long as he fits the bill
"Love my State, hate the football"
I only wish we had him for another year at Tackle.

You guys thinking Se'von Pittman gets a r/s or something?
Two deep, with some shockers. I think Urban will start who's best at each position, not based on experience.
QB- Miller, Guiton
RB- Dunn OR Hyde, Hall
HB-Boren, Huerman
TE-Stoneburner, Huerman OR Vannett
LT-Norwell, Decker

KR- Devin Smith, Hall
PR- Southward, Hall
Boren at Center ? Interesting. Where has this been posted ? For a major program, I can't believe we get only one OL (Norwell) in 2010 and four 3* in 2011.....SMH
I forgot about Pittman..but yes I think he redshirts
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
I think he meant Bobek at C..he's guaranteed to start at C. Boren is sill very undersized..could possibly be Bobeks back up
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
Oh shit..I meant Bobek at C as well, typo
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
Walrus would start him there
I can see coach Meyer rotating alot on the lines
Capn, Make It So...
I'm curious to know whats going to happen with Chase Ferris and Daryl Baldwin..I would've made them O-tackles from day one. We wouldn't be so desperate for that position if we would've did that in the first place.

If we're lacking so much depth on the O-line why don't they consider moving Michael Bennett back to the o-line. Before he came to tOSU he was highly touted on both sides of the ball and with all of the incoming recruits on the d-line why don't they move him back to o-line slide simon into the middle and rotate some of these new kids like Spence, Pittman and Washington.
Lecharles Bentley even raved about Bennett when he chose tOSU, so obviously this kid can play on the o-line.
QB- Miller, Guiton, Jones
RB- Hyde, Hall/Ball
HB- Z. Boren, Homan
TE- Stoneburner, Heuerman, Vannet
WR- Smith, Spencer
WR- Brown, Reed
RT- Fragel, Dodson
G- Linsley, Elflein
C- Bobek, J. Boren
G- Mewhort, Hall
LT- Norwell, Decker
SDE- Miller, Washington
DT- Simon, Goebel
DT- Hankins, Bennet
WDE- N. Williams, Spence, Perry
SAM- Sabino, Marcus
Mike- C. Grant, C. Williams, Roberts
WILL- Shazier, Perkins, Crowell
S- Barnett, Brown
S- Bryant, Johnson
CB- Roby, Reeves
CB- D. Grant, Howard
I don't see Travis Howard starting this year, and I have Hyde, Ball and Hall above Dunn.
@OSU Bucks
Bennett is too good of a D tackle to move to Oline. He has HUGE potential at that position and will be a possible all big ten in a few years. We are lacking offensive tackles, not guards or inside players..which Is where Bennett would move to if he changed sides.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
I think we are expecting a little too much from these incoming freshman D-ends. I could see Wash and Spence getting reps but hard to imagine them starting and being effective in their 1st year.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
If you guys think Storm Klein Isn't going to be in the 2 deep you are going to he very SUPRISED!
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
Storm Klein looks like the cookie monster, he won't see the field.
smh at people leaving Rod Smith off of their projected rosters.. kid is a freak in the weight room, which Urban and Marotti will love. Just wait til the spring game.
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
I would be surprise- lets go with shocked- if Dunn/Ball get more carries than Smith next year. I think people are expecting too much out of the 2012 class and their presence on the field next year. Dunn and Ball should be very good backs during their time at tOSU, but I personally don't think either will be that big a part of the 2012 season.
As ThirdLegLouie said, lets give Smith a chance. He had fumble problems but that should be a fiarly easy problem to correct. He's got serious potential.
"Love my State, hate the football"
I woudln't mind if Dunn and Ball get Redshirts to get some space between all the running backs, Hyde is a R-junior, Hall is senior and Smith is a Redshirt sophomore. At least one of them will get a redshirt. And I want Spence and Washington to play because I could be wrong but I didn't think Bellamy and Goebel are that good, Bennet Hankins and Hale are all better to me. And SPence was a top 10 player he should be able to come in and get some action, Hankins,Hale, bennett they all came in as freshmen and contributed and they where 3-4 star guys. And I think people want the freshmen to step up because our Defense last year was not that good.
William we'll see.
I had Smith 3rd on the depth chart.
Alex root- being a top 10 incoming recruit doesn't mean much. Grant was rivals #2 rated player and didnt play any significant LB mins..in a year where we had the worst LB play in a longgggg time. Spence will play I'm sure, depends how Williams recovers as well a Moore and Steve Miller's development.
Bellamy and Goebel are solid players..not stars but good enough to start or rotate and play a lot.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
This is what I would like to see and hope some players are good enough
QB: Miller / Guiton
RB: Hyde / R. Smith/Hall
FB: Boren / Homan
WR: Philly Brown / Smith/ Thomas
WR: Reed / Spencer *Reed impressed me before he got hurt it was our best WR to me
FL: Jordan Hall / Fields
TE: Stoneburner / Heuerman
To me WR is the most important position they played awful last year, and I hope they get better and some of the Incoming Freshmen guys that are supposed to be good can make a difference or at least push guys.
LT: Norwell / Decker
LG: Mewhort / Underwood
C: Bobek / Boren
RG: Hall / Linsely
RT: Fragel / Dodson
Not sure if they play OT or OG but Cris Carter and Tommy Brown have some Size if they are good enough, Carter is 6'6 350 per OSU roster that is Huge!
DE: Simon / Miller OR Spence
DT: Hankins / Goebel
DT: Bennett / Bellamy
DE: Williams / Hayes OR A. Washington
OLB: Shazier / C. Williams
MLB: Grant / Perry
OLB: Sabino / Marcus OR Perkins
CB: Howard / Grant
CB: Roby / Reeves
SS: Bryant / Johnson
FS: Barnett / Brown
For me last year had a lot of ups and downs, good and bad, and I was not used to seeing Bad at OSU, so either the players weren't good enough. But will see, the Spring game should be fun to go to this year, wheren't that many people last year! And I hope it is an actually game this year.
I know rankings don't matter to much, but a lot of top 10 guys get a lot of playing time at other schools, one thing with Grant though was he didn't come in early, Shazier got on campus in Janurary he had a lot of time to develop a bit. I still thought Grant should have got some playing time our LB were not good, and Our D-line was good but we got no sacks. Meyer talked about that already that the group had way to few of sacks last year and he is going to change that.
I bet Steve Miller starts at Leo and there's NO way Williams comes back effective after just ten months. Look at Oden for all you need to know there. I wont matter who starts at RB. I bet 4 Rbs get over 400yds. Urban loves using them all. Mike Thomas is the breakout freshman offensive player. He is already a year older than the others and enrolled early. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Bryant Back at CB given how much Howard sucked and how thin we are. He's a beast in run support and faster than almost any Big Ten wr.

John Simon said to the press that Nate is going hard and is doing extremely well in Mariotti's workouts. Nate's girlfriend was oddly in my high school class...I'll ask her how he is if I get a chance. I'd assume he'll be 100% simply because they were hoping he'd be back after a few games, but didn't want to risk it after it got worse last season. So yes, he'll probably start.
Spence would probably be his backup, big, fast body, to convert to a hybrid linebacker.

Why is so crazy that some of us expect Spence to play? He was rated as a top 10 national recruit. Last year Jadeveon Clowney started from day 1 and for a Top 15 team. Urban has said he's not going to get away from redshirting, and if you look at his track record he's never had a problem playing freshman if they deserve it. I just feel like with all the talent we brought in on the d-line some of them have to get some snaps atleast in a rotation.
By the end of the 2012 season, one of Spence, Washington, Pittman, and Schutt will be a major factor in opposing team's gameplans.
No chance on Nate Williams. Look at how optimistic all the stories from the teams are after microfracture. Nate isn't playing C in the NBA. He's playing Leo which is a beast position because of it's versatility. He has to be able to cut and break on the ball. If he were also redshirting this season too I'd say he could play next year. Microfracture is as serious as knee surgery gets. He's not going to be ready to go in 10 months nor will he have gone through the same ridiculous workouts as the other dudes. He's not good enough to be out there on one good leg. I don't care how optimistic the reports are, I'll belive it in September.
If spence came in for spring practice I'd think he has a chance at starting but he's coming in w everyone else. Look at the difference between Shazier and Curtis Grant despite Grant's superior physique and even with the head start Shazier didnt' come close to starting day 1.
Only way I see Spence getting a lot of playing time is if
A. Nathan Williams isn't able to play
B. JT Moore and Steve Miller just aren't developing or arent showing signs of being better than Spence. Either way I'm sure Vrable will get him on the field somehow someway.

Clowney was also considered one of the best DE prospects to come out of HS in a long time. He was a consensus #1 player by every recruiting service. Spence is a great prospect but I don't think he can be compared to Clowney.

Interesting that I didn't see anybody list Whiting on their chart, and it looks like he's at least open to a transfer to Louisville.
http://www.thelantern.com/sports/osu-s-jordan-whiting-could-be-transferring-to-louisville-1.2789764#.T0P8F8WXRYU
^Yup, wouldn't crack the two deep next year at LB.
Oh well that frees up another spot for 2013, If the Big transfer who ever it may be doesn't go through Meyer already has 2 open scholarships for the 2013 class. And whiting I don't know much about but he wasn't even in the 2 deep last year I doubt with all the incoming LB he would get playing time.
No offense to Whiting..but he probably should've commited to instate Louisville or Kentucky to begin with.

@buckeyejason... Well, if Williams plays anything like Moeller did after a medical redshirt, ignore him. Secondly, JT stinks so rule him out. I'm sorry, I went to school near him and I'm no college athlete but I've never been impressed by him especially because he was slow 30 lbs ago, let alone now. I thought tressel reached for Youngstown talent and we are seeing that by his inability to even protect a punt (he would have given up 2 if the other side didn't give it up first on the second punt).
I still have hope for Steve Miller because I think him and Bennett can be a special tandem. With these thoughts in mind, plus the fact that Jim Tressel is no longer our coach, don't expect top 10 in the class talent like spence to ride the pine.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
I think Spence will start at LEO if Williams is unable to go.
What a great LB haul we had in the 09 class...sarcasm..
Brought in 4 linebackers and none of them did squat here besides Klein. 3 guys that screwed around and transferred and 1 guy tht just isn't that good.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
I agree with you pretty much ourhonordefend..recruit buck that would be pretty amazing considering only one true freshman has started on the d line in forever..and that was Heyward in 07 due to an injury.
Spence has all the talent to do whatever he wants..so did Dorian Bell. He has to do all the right things to start this season.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
I just think Spence is built to play the stand up-DE position. He's got the speed necessary to get to the QB and the size to disrupt the run. Maybe reminicent of Williams being the only one I recall being able to get a passrush on Colt McCoy when we played Texas (I believe Williams was a freshman).
Also, in addition to my post kinda ripping on the returning talent on the dline/lbs, I think we should expect greater play out of everyone at those position that is returning. My reason for saying this is mostly based of hope, but with urban not being eager to redshirt incoming freshman, these returning players BETTER step up or they may NEVER play with how loaded the classes behind them appear on paper.
Basically, I'm just hoping the clean slate allows the best to come out of everyone that maybe has fallen short of expectations so far. If not, I expect a few more transfers after/during this upcoming season.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
You are right..he's def built to play the Leo. 6'3" 240 or so..very quick off the snap. I'm sure he'll be playing that pos.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
I agree with ourhonordefend09, either the guys need to step-up or the new guys will take their spot. I just gotta believe at least spence gets some playing time. But when simon and williams are gone will will have an amazing DE rotation, Spence, washington,Miller,Pittman,Hayes maybe.
This is what I would like to see
