Alot of rumors out there that Kyle Dodson is no longer the lock everyone thought he was. Some insiders who aren't usually wrong are backing off their stance he is a lock to Ohio State. Word is USC is making a late push and he may be leaning that way. Alex or anyone else have anymore info on this?

I haven't heard that anywhere. I know USC made a push, but nothing more than that.
Where is your rumor source? Could you provide a link?
Him and Neal might be our most important recruits left. We really need Dodson to strengthen our OLine.
Let's hope Urban can work his magic.
I add Reeves but concur with Dodson and Neal. DB is now a bit of a weakness after dismissing two from the team (unless Neal plays DB, but I would put him on offensive side of the ball)
I'd say Diggs is the most important recruit ;)
Thanks for the info Alex. I really hope USC dosent swoop in at the last minute and steal him away.
I Cant provide any links just rumors ive been hearing. Also i dont know the rules about posting insider info from other sites or things of that nature. But i will say OSU insiders are backing of their = signs when it comes to Dodson
Dodson is pretty improtant but our recruiting class wouldnt be doomed if we didn't get him. We have enough on the current roster and with our recruits to get by just fine on the Oline next year and probably 2013 too as the only lineman we loose after next year would be Fragel. With that said i really hope we get Dodson but im not as confident as i was yesterday at this time.
You can say Keith from Rivals is reporting, or Litchtenfels is reporting, or blah blah blah, just don't post the full article generally.
It's Aundrey Walker redux.

Maybe the Dickman offer was a backup if Dodson goes to USC?
If we use a very good OL to USC two years in a row.... Ugh.....
Who did we lose last year? Henderson was a bust, and went to "The U"
so, we gotta work Granma?... I mean Urb.?..
Capn, Make It So...
Capn, see this link for ideas on persuading Granma.
I'm On It :)

We also lost Walker
Interesting tweets from @GerdOzone regarding the coaching staff at Cleveland Heights and some possible issues between them and the Ohio State University football program.
https://twitter.com/#!/GerdOzone
That sucks. Why would the coaches get a bad vibe from Urban? I would love to know.
Just goes to show that nothing is final until NLOI day and those signed letters are received.
"We have a quarterback, obviously, that's kind of ridiculous running the ball." - Urban Meyer
I should mention he also tweeted that he still expects Dodson to be a Buckeye.
By capitalizing HUG in huge are you implying Urban should give lots of Hugs to Dodson tonight?
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
so how did this all come about????
Capn, Make It So...
Well it appears the Cleveland Heights football coaches have a rift with Ohio State coaches, and that's what's making the Dodson to OSU idea less firm.
He's a Cleveland kid and If his grandmother is envoled then there is no way she wants him way out in California. A close buddy of mine is Shelton Gibson (dodson's teammate and Osu 2013 prospect) teacher and mentor i'll see if he's hearing anything on Dodson.
Hardly home but always reppin
Most of these Coaches haven't been around Long enough to cause a rift right?
Capn, Make It So...
It's a rift from the previous coaching staff. And if you read Gerd's tweets, they talk about Gibson and how he's favoring Auburn, likely due to the rift.
Curious
Capn, Make It So...
I really hope Meyer can smooth this rift over.
Not just for Dodson or just for Gibson next year. Cleveland Heights is building a pretty solid program that's sure to have talented prospects for years to come. Need to keep those in state.
If anyone can fix this though it is Meyer.
So Heights is carrying a grudge?
Capn, Make It So...
and the hand wringing begins in earnest, very much agree that we don't want a Cleveland to USC pipeline established........2 years in a row would be a bad trend.
vacuuming sucks
Walker was a Glenville guy; doubt if it would establish a pipeline regardless.
"A guy from Ohio can make it in life if he works hard enough." - Wayne Woodrow Hayes
Glenville is in Cleveland no?
vacuuming sucks
sure, but I'm not sure we can say if Dodson went it would be a pipeline rather than mere coincidence. sabino and travis howard are both from miami, but i wouldnt be comfortable bragging about tress's miami pipeline.
"A guy from Ohio can make it in life if he works hard enough." - Wayne Woodrow Hayes
I would. Florida is solid recruiting ground for OSU. We don't want Kiffin's dirty mitts in Ohio in any fashion.
vacuuming sucks
agreed

Per Jared Shanker
The plan for Cleveland Heights, Ohio, tackle Kyle Dodson was to announce on Saturday, but the three-star prospect will now do it on signing day.
Dodson and the rest of his Cleveland Heights seniors committed to both Division I and Division II schools will sign letters of intent at a noon ET ceremony at the high school on Feb. 1, according to Cleveland Heights coach Jeff Rotsky.
Dodson is committed to Wisconsin but began wavering in late November. In addition to Wisconsin, Dodson took official visits to Ohio State, Auburn, USC and Michigan State. The Buckeyes have been looked at as the team to beat since Urban Meyer came on board as coach.
If Dodson flips, it will be the second decommitment along the offensive line for Wisconsin in a little more than a week. Four-star tackle J.J. Denman (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) changed his verbal to Rutgers on Monday.
We'll see about Denman yet.... commits to Rutgers the week the coach leaves? That one's not done yet

I'm fully addicted to recruiting info...and seriously can't wait til it's all over and we know who's here and who isn't. This is my first year keeping up with it to this extent. Every time I visit this site (daily) - I feel like I just watched an episode of Breaking Bad...I love it - but it leaves me feeling nervous as hell!
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
@Red: Denman reaffirmed his committment to Rutgers. Per...someone that retweeted the state of Rutgers recruiting as it went accross my TL.
And the merry go round continues. Doesn't matter. Once they sign whoever they are URB and Co. will lead like we have not ever seen here in Columbus. Can't wait. NC 2013 and 2014 !
To All 11 Warriors,
Dodson is an Ohio kid who is rumored to have always wanted to be a Buckeye. We all here on this board are extreme and loyal TOSU fans and would gladly spill our blood for that. My take on this whole recruiting process with these Ohio kids (Dodson, Bradley, Kailis, Strobel to name a few), is simple...if you arent enamoured with tOSU and do not feel the passion we feel then good riddens! I will gladly take 25-28 players that WANT to be a Buckeye. My son is 10 this year and would gladly commit in 1 second to Ohio State if offered. Its in his blood...its his passion. If you truely dont wanna come here or think this may not be the place for you then you wont be productive while here and will never reach your potential cuz you'll always be thinking about the what ifs. So here this in my opinion...If your a recruit and you dont LOVE tOSU then get walkin!! Urb will find a young man who will proudly spill his blood for the Scarlet and Gray!
No. You find guys that are talented and want to play for a coach. Willingness to spill blood does little for me if said passionate player is slow, fat, or can't tackle. It is up to the coaches to spin these kids towards their schools whether they are from Ohio or not. I will take 25 talented players over 25 'tried and true, born and bread' Buckeyes. You win with talent that has passion. You don't win on passion alone.
Take your bleeders, I'll go with speed.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
^The key is finding the combo with the two.
That's why our OL always disappointed under Bollz, if they were skilled they weren't mean, if they were passionate and mean, they weren't skilled. He just reached for easy in-state players when recruiting.
Yeah, good riddens to good players at positions of desperate need that want to take their time and weigh all their options. There is no place for anyone like that on this team.
While I enjoy good athletes who pick tOSU because they just love the Buckeyes, I also appreciate when kids take the time to consider all their options and don't make a decision based purely on emotion. I'm sure some of them simply like to play the recruiting game, but, for others, it shows maturity IMO.
Haha Brewster take it easy man! I agree with you but I think
Rjsmitty was just trying to prepare for the worst with Dodson.
Talent coupled with some sort of Passion is the key here, whether
it is for the coach or the school Or for just plain football, it doesn't
really matter IMHO... Would you Guys agree?
O-H-I-O
Elite players have a passion for football and competition coupled with great talent. The elite players are also fortunate to have a coaching staff that can develop, motivate, and challenge that player. The school can be part of a player's passion for football but it isn't required. Coach Bolls/Tressel brought in elite OL talent (i.e., you don't get much more elite than Nick Mangold) but Coach Bolls, in my opinion, consistently failed to develop, motivate, and challenge that talent. Coach Meyer appears to have a veracious passion for football and competition. He attracts like-minded players who are also talented. We will see if Coach Meyer develops, motivates and challenges those players. I think his track record indicates that he can and will.
I totally get what RJ is saying though. Which is why Tyvis Powel, Perkins and Williams are my favorite Buckeyes at the moment. They truly want to be here and will wear the colors with pride. I love to see that they are so excited to be both students and ball players.
That makes them want to work that much harder IMO. We don't need more trouble makers that will put this program in jeopardy. (not saying any one in particular is a trouble maker) In a perfect world we would have both pride and skill but thats not always the case.
theoretically they all want to be here or else they would have picked a different program. I don't think that you should like a guy who's loved Ohio State his whole life any more than a guy like Cam Williams or Noah Spence who had a ton of schools to select but picked Ohio State.
I get the feeling that the rest of our "targets" won't commit till at least NSD. Is their any recruit that will commit before NSD?
I agree with Doug
Capn, Make It So...
Cox is supposed to announce Monday or Tuesday. Reeves may announce this weekend. Dodson, Bradley, and Marcus are NSD. Diggs is Feb 10-11. Neal is mid-February.
Did Dodson have that shoulder surgery?
I believe he did. I know he tweeted a few days ago he was about to get the surgery.
I hope he isn't hampered in his development because of the surgery. I wonder if he is a sure redshirt because of it.
Dodson had the shoulder surgery...was successful...should be ready to go by camp
Keep us updated from what you hear about the USC visit with Dodson if you would please Alex!! I really hope he's a buckeye.....I have FAITH!
Shendig
Great news we need that OL depth especially a guy who can contribute like dodson. Go Bucks!
These kids need to wake up and grow up now before they make a big mistake! In this very moment of their lives, seriously, Cleveland Heights kids, your H.S. coaches have taken you this far but that's OVER. Your future is with the coaches and program and environment who will get you to the next level if you have that talent. For these Cleveland kids there is a much higher probability of success staying in this local environment(family support, familiarity, high coaching level, program) than going 2500 miles away. Anyone want to provide the numbers of how many of our Ohio kids made it by going out West?(Aundrey Walker pending) Not too many in the last few years. Wake up Cleveland coaches; Are you just not feeling the love from OSU or what? I have alot of confidence Urban will fix this lack of attention or whatever it is.
LVbucksNV
LV I think you're overreacting a bit. Yeah it suck for us OSU fans if the kid doesn't want to come here, but who are you to say that it's a mistake for him. Plenty of good players from Ohio have gone to other schools and had success. Surprising as it may seem OSU isn't the only school that has a great football program that puts kids in the NFL. I hope he comes to OSU, but I think it would be foolish to say that he has ruined his football career by going elsewhere.
I also looked up OSU caliber players from Ohio going west, and surprisingly the only players I could come up with from 2002-2011 are:
Fred Davis (Toledo Rogers High School) - Went to USC. Was 2nd Team All-American in 2007 and was drafted in the 2nd round in the '08 draft by the Redskins
Jordan Hicks (Lakota West High School) - Went to Texas. Is going to be a Junior next season, played right away as a freshmen on special teams and some spot work on D, started 9 games as a sophomore and had 65 tackles. He seems to be doing ok for himself
Aundrey Walker (Cleveland Glenville High School) - Went to USC. Got some playing time as a Freshman and is expected to possibly start at RT next year.
Even though it is such a small sample size, it seems to refute everything you say about kids from Ohio going out West and failing miserably.
Dodson is an incredibly important recruit for us depth-wise beginning in 2014.
The problem begins after the 2013 season when we lose Norwell, Mewhort, Linsley & Hall (who will all have been 2-3 year starters at that point) and return Bobek, Underwood and Tommy Brown as Seniors.
So our 2014 OL depth looks like this:
T: Underwood (Sr.), Decker (So/Jr)
C/G: Bobek (Sr.), Brown (Sr.) Carter (Jr.), O'Connor (So/Jr), Elfein (So/Jr), Boren (So/Jr)
8 Scholarship players and only 2 legitimate tackles. And 3 of those scholarship players are Seniors.
We need around 12-13 lineman to feel good about where we are in 2014 and we need more and better prospects. So how many chances to do we have to get them so that they're ready to play?
2012 Class: Decker, O'Connor, Elfein, Boren, DODSON (Sophomores or Juniors in 2014, when they're really needed)
2013 Class: (Redshirt freshmen or Sophomores in 2014, when we need them badly)
2014 Class: (True freshmen in 2014 when we need them REALLY badly)
So if we don't get Dodson, we'll be even more heavily relying on young and undeveloped lineman from the 2013 and 2014 classes.
@ThemostBrian
I agree as far as recrutiting goes the past few years it seems like our o-line hasn't been a priority since we landed the so called "brew crew" I was thinking about this the other day. When we played Texas a few years back at Texas when mccoy was a true freshman and crushed them we rotated TWO different offensive lines throughout the game to keep our guys fresh and wear their defense out. That means we had 10 guys that were ready to see action. I can't say the same about our offensive line anymore. Hopefully Urban makes it more of a priority in these up coming classes. Especially cuz scUMs o-line is gonna look scary the next few years especially if they land diamond too
when will Dodson decide
Capn, Make It So...
I think he's announcing 2/1 on Signing Day probably in the AM.....going to dinner now but wanted to share before hand
He's gonna choose between USC and OSU imo
