According to Richard Davenport, Davonte Neal really liked his visit and came away highly impressed with the fans and the facilities. The basketball atmosphere was another highlight. He was at the game when they played Michigan. Kelvin Fisher was his host.
@OSUBUCKS9, from what i've read that is the case. They also hosted Jordan Diamond, Dalton Santos, and other highly touted recruits at the same time.
My bias for tOSU aside, I don't get the appeal of Arkansas. This school is arguably the fourth best school in the SEC West. Arkansas doesn't necessarily have a rich football tradition or a HOF coach, or even a nice campus. Petrino must be a really good recruiter to gin up this much interest.
ummmm, Petrino is a really good coach. Look at what Louisville was able to do while he was there and look how the fared before and after he left. I know they were Big East, but Louisville had a couple of very good teams when Petrino was coaching down there.
@Capn I don't think Meyer is going to hold a scholorship for him til late February, but I could be wrong. A source close to Neal said he wasn't gonna leave state unless it was Ohio State but take that FWIW. Neal, as Alex said, is a mystery at this point. Don't get your hopes up if he isn't a Buckeye.
Gene, I'm sure when your dealing with this type of athlete its all a crapshoot. He seems exactly what coach Meyer would instull in his offense. I feel his skills would be a great asset in any offense, and maybe Mr Neal knows that! I am curious to know why Alex feels the way he does about Mr Neal.
Im not an insider either but from the first little bit I can read it looks like he loved his visit there. I don't remember him talking OSU up that much in the article I read after his visit.
Davonte Neal (Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguaro) took his third official visit to Arkansas over the weekend. Neal, the nation's No. 8 player, had previously visited Ohio State and Notre Dame.
“The first thing that jumped out to me about Arkansas was the academic set up,” Neal said. “I want to go in to sports broadcasting and at most schools, you have to wait until at least your sophomore year to really do much. At Arkansas, you can get behind the scenes right away and that’s pretty intriguing to me.
“From a football standpoint, Arkansas is a pretty incredible place. The facilities are crazy and they have a 100-yard weight room, which is the biggest I’ve seen so far. I like the coaches a lot and have talked to them so much, it honestly feels like I’m talking with family. Coach [Bobby] Petrino is a great guy, and I love Coach K [Chris Klenakis]. He has been recruiting me all year, and we’re very close.”
Neal said the offense at Arkansas is anther big plus for the program.
“That’s one explosive offense and it would be fun to play in a system like that,” Neal said. “They let their playmakers make plays and Coach Petrino does a great job of drawing things up. They like me as a slot receiver and said they want to use me in a similar way that they used Joe Adams.
“The quarterback is coming back next year and they’re going to be really good. I love the players on the team, they all treated me great and I got a great vibe at Arkansas from everyone. It was similar to Ohio State in that it just felt like home. I’m taking a visit to North Carolina this weekend, and then I plan to shut things down for a week.
"That’s when I’ll compare everyone to each other, hopefully pick one school out as a favorite and then visit Arizona (Feb 3). I should decide a week later between Arizona and whatever school I pick out from my first four visits.”
From press conferences, etc., it seems like Bobby Petrino is the most boring man alive, which usually doesn't correlate well to being a good recruiter. But maybe that's just me. I still think Neal is a Buckeye, although Arizona does have his HS coach on staff.

Liked the visit as GeneStarWind said, but I still don't see him there....kid is a mystery along with Diamond though
Was his visit this past weekend while DGB was there too? if so, that could be scary to see them on the field at the same time.

DGB was indeed present, among shit load of others including Jordan Diamond and Dalton Santos. They had a lot of visitors this past weekend.
Why do you feel he won't go Arkansas Alex?

@BTALBERT25. Couldn't agree with you more, but in his own division he's arguably the fourth best coach. That's more what I'm getting at.
@Albert Agreed

Fair enough
Just a feeling...I think OSU and Arizona are the big players here...just my gut
I can live with that answer Alex.

I'm not an insider either

Here's the text of the ESPN article:

Sounding a lot like its going to be hard to get him away from AZ. He already has AZ as one of his two finalists according to this article.
