There are expectations and there are Buckeye expectations. Buckeye expectations are logical: Buckeyes play football to win national championships.
If this means we are the most-hated team and fanbase in college football, so be it.

Wisconsin Badgers...don't:

You know what? I'm actually ok with a season in which the Badgers just won the B1G.
It wasn’t a magical season, but they won the conference. I got to watch Montee Ball show an amazing nose for the end zone. I got to watch Russell Wilson hardly ever make a mistake and never feel out of a game until the clock expired. I saw eleven Badger victories. I’m fine with 2011.

It is thinking like this which will doom the Badgers to being a 2nd tier team forever.
If the Wisconsin was an SEC team the fans would be howling for Bret to be fired they would not accept back to back BCS losses. Just being happy to be there, is not enough if you have any hopes of winning a national title.
Which Wisconsin will never win with the Boy Wonder at the helm.

Wisconsin's pretty much doomed to be a second tier team forever anyway.
There’s been what, one consensus 5 star recruit from the state of Wisconsin since 2000? Outside of Nebraska, there hasn’t been a team historically with home state as barren of talent as Wisconsin is that has won consistently. And Nebraska wasn’t calling for Osborne’s head after years of Orange Bowl losses.

This is right.
If UW was poised to break through to the elite tier of college football, it would have happened after the ‘99 and ’00 Rose Bowl wins. It didn’t. The recruiting territory is challenging, and Wisconsin doesn’t have the traditional prestige that some schools (like a Nebraska or a Michigan) can fall back on. Given the circumstances, Alvarez and Bielema have done a pretty remarkable job. Over the past couple decades Wisconsin has comfortably established itself as a top 20 team, and not too infrequently pushed for consideration in the top 10 or even top 5. When you look at the rankings of our recruiting classes against the other schools we compete with in the top 10, it’s pretty damned amazing. Sure it would be nice to be playing for the MNC every year, but I think anyone attacking the Alvarez/Bielema program has seriously unrealistic expectations of what Wisconsin is or can be. If they can just maintain the level of success the program has already achieved for a good long time, I will be a very happy Badger fan. And who knows, one of these years they may overachieve and wind up playing for a national title.
