I said this when Frank Solich took the Ohio University job. The MAC is a great destination for good coaches who are tired of the pressure of big-time programs and still enjoy coaching football.
A program like OU or Akron is going to be ecstatic with seven or eight wins a season. A division title or MAC champ, even better. Any bowl game win (or even a bowl game invite for that matter) is going to yield countless attaboys by the AD. If Bowden does that at Akron, he could be there for 20 years as far as the Akron administration is concerned and retire as a beloved coaching icon.
That's not a bad gig for someone who has experienced the opposite.
Wow... what does this say about how bad the PSU situation really is? When a big name coach like Bowden goes to a program like Akron instead? Amazing!
