Jim Tressel with no NCAA sanctions. Had this not happened, we'd be playing LSU for a national title this year. I know Urban was a "sexy" hire, but it's not as if Tressel didn't have a shit-ton of success as well. And there's something to be said about continuity in any program.

Tress and no sanctions. playing for a NC. And I'm Confident we would have got Urban in a couple years.

It's really that lopsided?  Those cannot Buckeye fans voting.  Unless Bucksfan has voted 7 gazillion times.

Only way I'd pick the Urban option is if no NCAA sanctions meant that there were no additional punishments on top of our self-sanctions and that Tressel was never fired throughout the process.

But that seems like a pretty easy question.

I'll take Tressel with no sanctions right now, because we know what we get with Tressel.  Urban brings a lot of optimism for the future, and I'm not suggesting that he may disappoint, but we don't know how that's going to go yet.  Plus sanctions suck...especially no bowl game :\...

I really appreciate JT, and we certainly know what we'd get with him.  However, I voted for UFM because I think the team's ceiling is higher with him as a coach.

The NCAA really pissed UFM off today (or so I would assume).  I'd like to think an angry UFM is similar to an angry Belichick.... no one wants to face that.

Urban with sanctions get my vote!  This program will bring many more titles!!!!

Is there a Tressel with no sanctions and no jim bollman option?

Tressel with no sanctions. I know I'm going to love Urban Meyer, but I'm not as fickel as others as far as forgetting how much I loved Tressel and how much he did for us. If there was anyway to get Tressel back, even with sanctions, I would do it in a heart beat.

Tressel. There's still a hole without him.

Urban.

Not a Tressel apologist. I've wanted Urban ever since he curbstomped us in 06.

John Cooper with no losses to Michigan, ability to recruit a capable QB and loss of sideline bewilderment look.

Coop brought more talent to Columbus (except QB) than Tressel.

We certainly are a Fickell (witty...yes?) bunch huh? A decade of dominance against UM, More BCS wins than losses, a NC, 2 more shots at a NC, near flawless recruiting, etc...and we toss Tressel to the side just like that??? I like Urban Meyer & I'm excited about the future. An offense without a choke chain attached to it will be a nice change...But I do think tOSU fans as a whole are a damn tough crowd to please. If Tressel had turned the 5 in, we as a whole probably would've labeled him a "rat" and whined about how we could have won a NC in 2010 - if only he hadn't thrown those poor kids under the bus for something so silly as selling their own personal items. The whole thing became a no win situation for Tressel the second he got the first email. One thing about Tressel - you never worried about whether he was leaving for a better offer. The man was a Buckeye. Through & through...

Anyway, just thought I'd offer that up after seeing those poll percentages. By the way, I went ahead and voted. I took Urban with the sanctions...I mean, I'm not stupid.

Totally agree with ONETWENTYEIGHT. I did not know of him until right after the 06 MNC during the interviews and then I saw what his offenses did with Harvin, Demps, Rainey, Moody and Timmy. I was blown away and ever since ive been saying his name. I always hated Tresselball and I would bring up Urb when Tress would refuse to step on the opponents neck. I look forward to stomping teams. It truly does make a difference in style points when voting for the MNC game teams. Especially, if one team is on the cusp.

"I always hated Tresselball and I would bring up Urb when Tress would refuse to step on the opponents neck."

Ditto, Bucksnut13. See, last year's Sugar Bowl. 28-10 at halftime and the 2nd half collapse was almost predictable. Who had any doubt at halftime of that game that it wasn't going to come down to the wire? I was annoyed, in advance...with a 28-10 lead. You just knew it wasn't safe.

I would have to do quite a bit of research on this (I don't have the time, or really the desire), but I would love to know how many UFM teams went to halftime with a 28-10 (ish) lead and DIDN'T end up winning by 20 or more points. The point is, with JT a second half DAVEfest was assumed...by the fans and by the opposing coaching staff.

yep, Urbz teams would get an early lead and then pour it on. Some think that is unsportsman-like and disrespectful, but I beg to differ. imho i thinks that it is showing respect to teams when you do keep running your normal offense. you are respecting the fact that they still have a shot to comeback. Some people can bring up the valid point that celebrations and other sorts of things get out of hand and that i agree is disrespectful, but i have seen way to many times teams comeback from large deficits so i always want my teams to run up the score. btw BUCKEYECHRIS, i almost made that my name cause we have the same first name.

Bucksfan's picture

Of course it's not just Ohio State fans voting in this.  It is a hypothetical question, "IF you were an Ohio State fan...."

I understand why it's lopsided - people like watching teams coached by Urban Meyer, and people who aren't OSU fans would rather have root canal surgery than watch teams coached by Jim Tressel.

Still, I'll take Urbz 7 gazillion times.

Jim Tressel with no NCAA violations (not sanctions).

Doc's picture

That is not an easy question to answer.  Tressel was a proven coach at OSU.  Yes we could be playing for the MNC this year against an LSU team that would take us back to the woodshed.  I, for one, was getting tired of the lead being frittered way and hanging on for dear life.  The Sugar Bowl last year epitomized this.  I'm looking forward to  a "Take No Prisoners" attitude.  I can not wait for the first time when we have SCum on the ropes and we continue to pour it on.  John Cooper did that to teams, not SCum, but he would pound the crap out of teams when given the chance.  I'm looking forward to Urban doing it too.

Urban and sanctions would be my vote.
