Perhaps we've all been too quick to judge.

If this is true, McQueary may not be so deserving of our contempt.  However, if it is, it is even more troubling, because it means the police did nothing.

I'm not saying McQueary is without blame, since he didn't take any additional steps, but this severely mitigates his moral blame in my eyes, if true.

If he went to the police, the PSU administration, and Joe Pa, I think it's clear to me that he had no where else to go, nothing else to do. He was stonewalled by a systematic problem. The entire community couldn't do anything for him, or those poor kids.

Joe Pa, whether he wanted to be or not, was the king/czar of this whole system/community/machine in Happy Valley. He alone had the sole power to step up and make something happen, make sure something was done to correct the issue and get Sandusky out and away from children. He may not have known that, and he may have been too naive or involved in football to realize it all. I, as I know things and have formed my own opinions of it, don't blame Joe Pa and I don't blame McQuery. I blame the fact that football and the millions of dollars it makes for so clouding the decisions to a point that children were raped. I understand that the ppl in charge in these situations, made small decisions that were in the best interests of themselves and the football team, and collectively those decisions added up to a woefully inept response that allowed crimes to continue to be committed. It's awful when those crimes happen to be drugs for tattoos and autographs. It's down right sickening when they are child molestation.

How about that exclusive interview by Arman Katayan last night.............riveting stuff...............snow globe huh.

His testimony makes no sense to me now.  It clearly states that he left the premises.  Confused.

All I can say is that I hope this is true for McQueary's sake.

So can we put him on trial for perjury now, because that CLEARLY is not what he told the grand jury...

BED's picture

Unless we don't have all of the Grand Jury testimony, because they are still considering some of his testimony as evidence for more indictments, Scottie.

He still went to work every day after that incident and saw what was being done, or not done. I don't care what the dude did, he flat out missed on this one.

For sure, Brew.  But this is much less bad than we thought previously.

I'm not sold on that BED. Not that it isnt worse. I'm not sold that McQuery did anything. No talk of the aftermath. What happened in the seconds immediatley after he supposedly broke this up? Where did the kid go? Where did Sandusky go? I just don't buy it.

EDIT-Lets say he did break it up. Did he then decide to just walk out of the locker room and head to his dad's place and leave the kid behind? No talk of that. It just seems like odd timing. Like thats the sort of thing you tell the grand jury in January. You don't say you did nothing then come back and say "You know what?  I did break it up. I just remembered". Seems fishy to me.

Disclaimer. I'm not trying to take shots at you at all. I understand where you are coming from and don't want my tone to sound argumentative.

No bad tone taken, Brew.

I agree with your argument.  I was couching my argument in that story being true.  There is a lot of the Grand Jury testimony that is still under key, since they are apparently still considering more indictments. (Heard that on the news today, haven't verified independently.)

I'm just saying if it's true, some of the vitriol directed at McQueary these past weeks has been slightly misplaced.

Well of course, they're in on it man. Don't look behind the curtain.

Or..........

He could be trying to backtrack and create a different narrative now that he realizes the university administration doesn't have his back. I think it's started to occur to him that he may never see the inside of a locker room ever again. Not college. Not high school. Not even junior high.

If that's what is going on, this also is a very risky strategy. Could open him up to possible perjury charges or at the least expose him to being treated as a hostile witness.

Do you think he has any backup career plans? I know that's harsh. But there is no part of this story that isn't harsh.

Not that he isn't screwed either way.

Could be NCB.  Or the PSU Police are in full CYA mode, and heads are about to roll over there too.  This keeps getting weirder.

Bed, you could be right. Nothing would surprise me in this case anymore. And that's why I think there should be a US DOJ investigation at this point.

You know, the PSU community has been crying foul about this since Paterno's dismissal. That Paterno was fired without having evidence against him of any wrongdoing. And that he has been made a sacrificial scapegoat by the PSU BOT. They've been saying from the start that nothing should have happened until a trial reached its conclusion and we've heard all of the evidence.

/sigh

Watching this has been like holding up a mirror to me of my own fandom and how I emphatically supported and then badly reacted to those who condemned Tressel for his NCAA violations. From watching the PSU community I've finally gotten to a point where I now concede that Buckeye fans and tOSU as an institution need to move on from Tressel. Like Woody, he'll become a cherished part of our history. A part of our lexicon. But we need to look to our future.

That's a lesson that might have taken me years to reach had it not been for this tragedy in State College.

Well put NCB.  I said the day Tress resigned that in 10 years, all of this nonsense will be forgotten, and he'll be remembered as one of the greatest coaches in Buckeye history.  Woody punched a kid in the face, and he's a god around these parts.

But yeah, this PSU stuff is nuts, and something needs to happen to remove all the interested parties from the investigation.
