Illinois Striping The Stands For OSU Game

Oct. 4, 2011

Stripe the Stadium Color Map

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics officials are looking to "Stripe the Stadium" orange and blue for the October 15 game against Ohio State at Memorial Stadium. Fans attending the game are encouraged to wear either orange or blue clothing depending on the section where their seats are located. Fans seated in the odd-numbered sections and the entire north end zone are asked to wear orange, while fans in the even-numbered sections should wear blue.

No. 19/16 Illinois is 5-0 heading into this weekend's game at Indiana after a thrilling come-from-behind 38-35 win over rival Northwestern last weekend. The next Illini home game is the Oct. 15 matchup with the Buckeyes, which will begin at 2:30 p.m. and be nationally televised by ABC (ESPN in some markets).

The "Stripe the Stadium" promotion will be just part of the excitement on game day. Fans in attendance also will be a part of the Stripe the Stadium FanCam, a 360-degree, high-definition image of Memorial Stadium in its entirety. Fans will be able to "step inside" the image of Memorial Stadium and look around, as if they were standing at midfield for a frozen moment of time prior to kickoff.

The resolution of 20 billion pixels is so high that fans will be able to zoom in to find themselves or friends anywhere in the stadium, "tag" themselves in the photo, and share via email, Facebook and Twitter. When fans visit the Stripe the Stadium FanCam, they will be able to watch special videos and enter for a chance to win tickets and a VIP experience to the Michigan and Wisconsin games, Illinois merchandise, panoramic photos of Memorial Stadium and more.

Both Wisconsin and Michigan have used FanCam technology to capture the experience at recent games. See an example of the Camp Randall FanCam at Wisconsin or the Under the Lights FanCam at Michigan.

Fans in attendance will have the ability to purchase one-of-a-kind photo products, powered by the Durham-based company Replay Photos. Fans also will be offered the opportunity to place their picture on the scoreboard at Memorial Stadium and purchase it as a print, custom-framed photo or photo on canvas.

Tickets for the Ohio State game on October 15, as well remaining home games against Michigan (Nov. 12) and Wisconsin (Nov. 19), are available at fightingIllini.com.

Illini fans can purchase orange and blue apparel at one of two Gameday Spirit Champaign locations (519 E. Green St. or 1615 W. Springfield), or online at the Official Fighting Illini Fan Store. Gameday Spirit also operates a merchandise stand on the corner of First Street and Kirby Avenue on football game days.

Why bother now?  They should've done this last year vs #2 OSU, not this year vs. 3-3 OSU.

Class of 2010.

Am I the only one to read this title and expect this to relate to Joe Bauserman's propensity to throw passes into the stands?
