Greatest OSU win since....

Finish the sentence.

I think the significance of this game still may be TBD.  I think if we win out the rest of the way it only increases, however if we lay an egg against PSU and scUM are we even gonna remember/talk about this game?

Regardless, at this point in time I'm curious what you guys think is the most recent game that was better as buckeye fans.

It's hard to say. If we want to go back to the days that weren't touched by the shit stain on OSU's history that is the Tat 5, one could argue that it's the greatest OSU win since the 2006 edition of The Game (Pryor sold memorabilia from 2008).

If we lose to PSU and UM, I think the game will be mentioned in the, "Hey, remember that Wisconsin game when Braxton threw the Hail Mary?" No more, no less. Hoepfully, it will be overshadowed by other ridiculous performances by Miller on much bigger stages.

I don't see how anything could be greater than the 2003 MNC game, overtimes and all.

I would argue that the Sugar Bowl last year was at least equally as good.  Winning a bowl game, removing the SEC monkey from our backs, blocked punt, Mallett interception, etc.  I was at both the Sugar Bowl and Saturday's game and both games caused my emotions to range from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows and back. Several times.

Of course the Sugar Bowl was vacated...  so maybe I shouldn't count it.  It also feels like it was a very, very long time ago.  But this game was so much more unexpected, it could easily be the turning point of the season.  All Buckeyes, fans and players, have had so little that is good in the last ten months that for the first time it feels as if the team is finally moving past it, not only emotionally but also on the field.  It feels good to see our guys get a little swagger back.

We should strive to keep thy name, of fair repute and spotless fame...

Great win for the the players, coaches, fans and program in general.

Without overshadowing how pleased I am that we won on Saturday night, why is it that all of our "best games ever" must come at the hands of us blowing close to insurmountable leads?  We dominated defensively for 3.5 quarters and then, if it wasn't for our offense, the talent on the field and some good fortune, we would have trumped our historic meltdown vs. Nebraska.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled about the victory, but I am beside myself that we turned a dominating performance into a last second thriller. These games are great when you win them, but you don't win them all, and to play as well as we did and have to question victory repeatedly is frustrating.

I'd say biggest win since the Rose Bowl.

Class of 2010.

The 2006 OSU vs TSUN.  Hands down.  Although the NC in 2003 is near and dear!

I don't care if it was erased..the Sugar Bowl. Nobody really picked us to beat an S.E.C team with a NFL QB and an explosive offense. We had to play that game down south with the "Buckeyes cant beat an S.E.C. Team in a BCS game" mantra and pulled out a classic.

In my mind "The Game" in 2006 was slightly bigger in terms of my overall excitement for the win, but this Saturday's upset of Wisconsin is probably on par with OSU holding off Michigan in the final seconds of the 2002 game (in which Will Allen's last second INT secured the win and sent us to the BCS National Championship).

(It goes without saying that winning the championship in 2003 was the biggest, most exciting win in my lifetime, but sadly I watched that one on TV rather than in person.)

P.S. I believe we were favored by 3 points in last year's Sugar Bowl, so at least some folks were picking us to beat an SEC team.

I was going to say the Sugar Bowl last year as well.  Beat a team that had a similar standing in their league, where talent appeared to be pretty similar.  That win was huge for the program, whether it still counts or not.  Everyone saw what happened there.

Also, the Rose Bowl against Oregon.  That was a much needed big win against a very good team that everyone said was too fast for Ohio State.  They score to fast, can't stop that offense, etc etc etc.  That got Ohio State back on the map for Big Games and quieted a lot of Naysayers.

We were 3 or 4 point underdogs in the Sugar Bowl depending on your book.  It was a huge victory.

I think the Penn St game in '09 was pretty monumental.  We had only a few weeks earlier lost to Purdue and only a few weeks before that watched Tressel get out-coached by Pete Carroll.  That was a rough start to a season and that Penn State victory was the first we'd had against a formidable opponent in a few years.

But in discussing '...greatest win since...' is tricky, because even a few losses in our remaining games should not diminish the importance of what was accomplished against Wisconsin (unless we should lose in absolute catastrophic fashion ala Miami).

Buckeyes 14, UM 9 in 2002.  I had been in school in the 90s when we lost to Michigan that effectively ruined a couple of perfect seasons and national title hopes.  That game got the monkey off our back, and over the hump and vaulted us into a very successful decade.

i would say the biggest regular season victory since Iowa 2009. Game winning field goal in OT to go to the Rose Bowl for the first time in over a decade.

As for the Sugar Bowl, I think we were 3 point favorites, but that line flipped after the B1G laid an egg on January 1st. Coming into the game, we were 3 point underdogs.

That win was the best since the National Championship. Tressel-ball was the only thing that could have won that game, especially with the Arkansas punter routinely placing the ball inside the 5 yard line. And the game wouldn't have been as close as it was if it weren't for that BS safety call (which even The Dark Lord Mark May said was BS). That was a five point swing (since they got a field goal on the ensuing possession). But Tressel went back to "Keep calm, run Dave" and we walked away with the W. And it was a treat to watch Cam Heyward play like an absolute beast in his final game as a Buckeye. I really believe if that Arkansas punter didn't have a GPS guidance system in his leg that night, Tressel would have kept the playbook open with better (i.e. "safer") field position. Could have easily been a 42-17 blowout of the Piggies then.
