In the first 3 years of the CFP the Power 5 conferences have had all 12 teams. A Group of 5 team hasn't been ranked in the top 10 in the College Football Playoff rankings. The Northern Illinois AD is in favor of a Group of 5 playoff.
"It's time to have a realistic conversation about creating a playoff for the Group of 5," Frazier told ESPN. "Why not?"
Not all Group of 5 members think this is a good idea though.
"You mean compete for a junior varsity championship?" one Group of 5 AD said. "No thanks."
I don't think a Group of 5 team has a shot at the playoff but creating their own playoff would be making a whole new division.
