Now, there's a chance you're the sort of sports fan who only gets excited about marquee matchups between stories programs on big stages with big-time silverware at stake. Nothing wrong with that. After all, it makes sense to only want to watch the best of the best going at it.
But for me, there's a certain charm to seeing smaller programs chasing smaller victories. To seeing overlooked teams playing their hearts out for ridiculous sounding trophies.
The minor bowl games I'm most excited for are as follows:
Miami Beach Bowl: Central Michigan vs Tulsa. Oh shit, doh, this gon be lit AF. Central Michigan is pretty much the ultimate last-minute WTF circus play team. In the last three seasons they've (1) come back from a 20-something point deficit vs WKU in the fourth quarter then almost tied the game with a multi-lateral miracle touchdown with only a few seconds to go, only to lose the game by missing a two point conversion (2) attempted a similar lateral play against Minnesota with seconds left, which wasn't very far from working (again), (3) beaten Oklahoma State at the last second on a play that most people agree shouldn't have happened because of officiating snafus. Needless to say, the Chippewas are a chaos team, and matched up against the high-scoring offense of Tulsa this game should be all kinds of fun.
Las Vegas Bowl: Houston vs SD State. Houston's always an interesting team to watch, and SD State is probably one of the best Non Power 5 teams they could have matched them with.
Boca Raton Bowl: Memphis vs Western Kentucky. This is almost a G-5 National Championship Game. Outside of Houston and Western Michigan, these are the two best G5 teams out there, and they both like putting on the points.
