Trailing 18-13, LSU had one last chance to score. The Tigers of Baton Rouge put themselves in a position to win the game, but they were called for an illegal shift with one second remaining on the clock. Les Miles' team needed to snap the ball before the clock struck zero for a potential game-winning play.
The final play
Although Rod Gilmore swore the ball was certain the ball was snapped in time, the replay official – and everybody else watching the play – could see that the ball was not snapped in time.
The replay official's ruling
Auburn's kicker, Daniel Carlson, made all six of his field goal attempts to account for Auburn's 18 points in the dramatic victory.
The dramatic swing of emotions to end the game is enough to make a man eat grass.
