Incredibly saddened to hear that Dee Dowis, the starting QB for the US Air Force Academy Falcons from 1987-1989, was killed in a car accident yesterday near Atlanta, Ga.

Dowis was one of the best service academy, option quarterbacks in history. He is the all time leading rusher for the Falcons (3612 career yards) and held the record for QB rushing yards for 12 seasons (broken by Indiana’s Antwaan Randle El). In his senior year, he placed sixth in the Heisman voting and was the fifth player in NCAA history to rush and pass for 1,000 yards in a season.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the Dowis and @AFFootball family. We lost a great American & one of the best QB's of all time. RIP brother

As a midshipman, I watched firsthand as Dowis absolutely shredded our defense. He was an amazing athlete, and a true competitor. RIP, Brother.
