Tin foil hat stuff approaching, turn back now.
ESPN released its Football Power Index, the lowest five teams in the power conferences were all B1G teams. Starting at the 63rd easiest schedule with Minn, Michigan, Purdue, Maryland, and Nebraska. Skip 3 or 4 and you get Indiana, Iowa, Rutgers, BYU, Penn State and Northwestern at 76th easiest.
So basically, the Big Ten is weak and if your schedule is full of Big Ten teams then you must have an easy schedule.
Well where do our beloved Buckeyes sit? Surely they must be higher because they do have to face Oklahoma!
Wisconsin and Ohio State can both make arguments for being in the preseason top five in this category. Both teams travel for headliner non-conference showdowns and both have to face the top three teams in the B1G.
Still, California made it on to the list despite the fact that it doesn’t play a Power Five bowl team in non-conference play while OSU and Wisconsin were outside of the top 30. That’s strange.
So how weak does ESPN consider the B1G? Well apparently, no matter how many top teams you play, your conference schedule will bring you down!
FPI hss Syracuse sched ranked 10th, Wisconsin 38. Cuse plays 4 preseason Top 25 (according to ESPN Schlabach) rankings. Wis plays 5 TOP 16!
