To alleviate making conferences happy, looking at financial considerations, etc., the system should be adjusted so pure football decisions come into play.

1. The Committee should only release 1 ranking - the Tuesday after all conference championship games are finished. Top 4 get in.

E$PN, etc can still do their projections etc to give endless hours of talk show topics, but Committee should make no comments until after everything is done.

2. Committee should be given info on the final top 15 teams in the AP and coaches polls, but it should be blind info, i.e. no team names, just stats.

For each team, give the committee a.) final win-loss record, b.) strength of schedule ranking, c.) final ranking of any opponents lost to that season, d.) # of wins vs top 10 / 25 / 50 teams, etc.

3. Based on the blind stats, the committee discusses / debates teams and determines the final 4 teams, and those teams are in.

2 conferences shut out? 2 or 3 teams from one conference? A smaller conference team gets in? An independent gets in? Those are the breaks.
