Shows you what a joke the BIG (media/coaches) awards are. CBS Sports also has Matta as BIG coach of the year.
While the Big10 awards (in basketball and football) do tend to be a joke, I'd also say it has to do with how good the conference was this year. Oladipo had a very legitimate case for best defensive player and as much as I hate him, Bo Ryan was definitely right there with Matta for best coaching job this year. Unfortunately in both sports it seems like any toss up's automatically go to whoever isn't Ohio State.
Only coaches vote for B1G defensive player of the year.

Dick Vitale (groan groan groan) made an unbelievably coherent case for Craft as DPOY midway through the season during a game he called with Mike Tirico. Thought it was very interesting, as that predicated a lot of the "great white hype," and "rosy-cheeked avenger" stories of recent weeks swooning over our resident heartthrob/ball thief.
