Sam Thompson vs KBD, Seth Towns 2016

Finally got accepted and just wanted to make my first thread a good one. i saw KBD moved up to a 5* by just about everybody and think he's going to keep moving up, from what i've seen if you take Evan Turners skill set with the way he got to the rim in college and hustled for rebounds, and his defense but gave him Sam Thompsons athletic abillity you get KBD.

i think Bates-Diop is going to be a monster in college in the way he's going to score, he's going to get alot of rebounds and blocks as well but i hope matta puts him as a wing insted of a catch and shoot 4

also the 2016 Class is loaded with 4 really good kids, the funny thing is the most famous one VJ King maybe only 3rd best

Seth Towns from columbus northland is a 6'7 F who is probably on par with Marc Loving as far as his mid range shot and close to as good a 3 point shot. Towns is probably going to grow to 6'9+ since he's 6'7.5 as a Freshman in HS but he plays the game like a Point Foward and is going to be the top kid in Ohio when its all said and done and considering theres already a top 10 kid in the nation in VJ  King it says alot

Sounds great. Anyone know where we stand with these young men?

Keep an eye on the #2 player in Ohio, 6'7" baby faced Omari spellman from north royalton hs. Has endless potential and is not done growing at all. He is a 2016 prospect.

2016 is loaded in Ohio.

Towns, Spellman, V.J. King, Willie Jackson from Garfield... and several others.  It could be a defining class for OSU and Thad Matta, as getting several of these guys could put them over the top to a national championship.

I believe that current commit Jae'Sean Tate has a younger brother in the 2016 class that is also supposed to be a stud. While it is early, there is lots of talk about the current freshman class being the best in Central Ohio in over 30 years. Lots of freshman playing big minutes for some of the larger and better programs in the area.

His brother didn't seem that good to me. When they lost to Gahanna it was because they stopped letting Jae'Sean take the ball up the court and forcing his brother into running the offense, but really couldn't.

I haven't actually had a chance to see him play yet, though I've heard that Jae'Sean is definitely the real deal. You have to remember he is only a freshman and has lots of time to grow and improve. It is pretty crazy how many freshmen are contributing already in Central Ohio, though.

Not just central Ohio. VJ King at SVSM and Carlton Bragg at VASJ are dominating

I actually see Bates-Diop as more of a Kevin Durant clone. He has a long, lanky body that will only get bigger and could end up in that 6'9'' range with a 7'5'' reach. He can score from anywhere and might not have the outside shot yet but will have the post game we have been sorely wanting.

I think a future team in 2014 of Shannon Scott as the senior PG, Kam Williams at SG, Sam Thompson or Q Ross (if they both stay all 4 years), Keita Bates-Diop and either Amir Williams or some stud freshman center. With Marc Loving, Tate and Amedeo coming off the bench, this is a final four team in the making.

The near future of Thad's team looks very promising! If he gets any of the stud players he is still working on, John Calipari would be jealous!

Thad and the Bucks won with class. Had to impress Jahlil Okafor, the #1 ranked junior from Chicago. Btw, the BIG tourney returns to Chitown in 2015, which will be Okafor's freshman season.

Seems like a great, humble kid that gets the big picture.

Again, Jahlil is the number one target for Coach Matta, IMHO. With Scott to run the team, Sam, Q (maybe), ADV, Kam, Loving, and KDB to score and Amir, Trey, and Okafor to anchor the team, I get chills

Sounds great to me; however, I am not certain that Thad will ever give ten players significant minutes per game on a regular basis.  And that is not a criticism of Thad by the way, I hope we keep him at tOSU forever.  His formula obviously works.

People tend to forget the amount of rotation players OSU had on their 2006-07 team that went to the NC game.

There were legitimately 9 guys who received 10+ minutes per game on average that season.  Thad Matta has shown he plays his best lineup, no matter what.  That may mean 4 who are always on the court, and a fifth that rotates.  Or, that may mean two whole completely different sets of five who he rotates out en mass.  I guarantee you - it does not matter to him, as long as he's always playing his best possible lineup at that time of the game.

Can't forget about David Bell too. He might be raw and won't be in the rotation that year but he is another fluid big that could help with depth if Amir and/or others don't develop.

Okafor would be quite the get. Very talented player. Starter from the beginning unless Amir decides to figure it all out by then.

He'll never figure it out to be on Okafor's level. Jahlil is the starter from day one if he comes to OSU. Add to that Tyus Jones (they've decided they want to play together) Keita Bates-Diop, Jae-sean Tate, David Bell and we've got far and away untouchably the best class in the country and probaby Thad's best yet.

Its been out for a while Jones probably isn't following Okafor to college.  Ohio State keeps dropping on Jones list anyways

Everything I've read seems to indicate otherwise, that they're likely a package deal. Where are you reading that they aren't? Not that it would surprise me at all.

You still haven't posted a source; I'm still seeing that they want to play together. Please post a source before you make such assumptions, you haven't posted anything substantial and seem to just assume you're the expert. I still haven't found where they said they don't want to play together/are no longer a package deal. It could be inferred, but I haven't seen anything about it. So I'll ask again, what's your source?

How much of a shot do we have at landing Jahlil?

Bolt's picture

A decent one. If we can make a strong run in this year's tourney I think it bodes well for us. A chance to jump in on a perennial contender that will have all sorts of senior leadership his freshman year and he'll be the starter and likely focal point on offense from day one (as we're god awful and very thin a C going forward), just like Sullinger was. He's said Thad and Izzo are two of the coaches he's been in contact with most. He has connection to S(l)am Thompson as they were former teammates at the same high school. On top of all that he's been very close with Jared Sullinger for the last 2-3 years and refers to him as a big brother. Jared and Satch (Jared's dad) have indicated that they're trying to convince him to go to Ohio State as well. Proximity to home isn't too bad either relative to a couple other blue blood schools recruiting him. You just never know with these top flight players when the blue bloods are involved, though.
