Barkley just said the Mountain west and Pac 12 is better than the BIG. Again just like last year having the TNT guys involved in the tourney is a travesty.

I was about to post this. What an idiot, calling the Big Ten overrated
Chuck is a moron. I swear he becomes more and more dumb every year.
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
C'mon, did you really expect anything remotely intelligent to come out of Chuck's mouth?
He's just mad because he doesn't have a ring.
B-b-b-but Michael got one (6), why can't I ?
Sadface :(
Love to hear Fat Chucky talk about how his SEC looks
He's all about creating conversation.... and getting people to talk about him.
ESPiN should pick him up in that case.

Between Michigan and Indiana there are 5 first round picks next year, 3 lottery. Neither one of those teams were in the BIG finals. I'd take Indy, wisky, SCUM, Sparty and tOSU against any top 5 con teams in the country. Then to have 2nd tier teams like Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota its not close.

Then Doug Gottlieb goes on to say that Valparaiso will beat Mich St. Worst group of analysts for basketball I've ever seen. Why have we heard that we're the best conference all season and all of a sudden, we're overrated now? Cool.
There is no way MSU loses to Valparaiso. And, I type this while wearing a Valpo Basketball shirt...
Yep. Izzo is the very best at winning the first game of the tournament. This is not one of his better-built teams, but the sun will rise in the east, and Sparty will win its first tourney game
And this is a home game for Sparty, isn't it @Auburn Hills?
Yes, yes it is.
i dont have a problem with charles barkley i think he is one of the funniest, self aware, and socially conscious athletes of all time. I just dont think he knows what he is talking about here. and a sidenote not every analyst is out to get ohio state, it just easy to have a target on your back when youre the best
Barkley needs to reach around his back and grab his panties and pull them up over his head and then run through a plate glass window for a comment like that.

Thank you for the visual.
I know some people are really high on the Mountain West. It is a very good league, no doubt. But the PAC 12!?!?!? I believe the selection committee would disagree there. OSU would've won that league no problem.

Hence why Oregon received a 12 seed.

He is a real cool dude, but he's more of a pro basketball guy. The college and the pro game are very different, he doesn't understand that.
Barkley is still mad at Knight for cutting him from the olympic squad that won the gold.

It was out on Iowa State
STFU about the bad call
I'm a friend of thunder is it any wonder lightning strikes me
he got the call right period
I'm a friend of thunder is it any wonder lightning strikes me
It's a clear block, you're wrong on that. He clearly got the call wrong, but yes bad calls both ways. Always a ton of "ifs" in sports.
"You'll be proud of our young people in the classroom, in the community, and most especially in 310 days in Ann Arbor, Michigan on the football field."
It was a clear block. You don't even need the restricted area to call that a block imo and that is the worst officiated call in college basketball I think. But there were just as many if not more bad calls against us. But they don't even look at whether the defender is there in time, only at their feet due to the restricted area. Clyburn is in the air when Craft slides underneath him. Like I said this happens a couple times every game. I'd say only about 50% of the called charges are actual charges and they rarely call it wrong the other direction (call a block when it should be a charge).
It was not a clear block. Craft was set and squared. Say what you want about the restriction line but the rest was a textbook charge. Nowhere near the "worst officiated call in college basketball." And how can it be the worst if there were worse calls against Ohio State?
Lenzelle Smith Jr got called for two fouls for boxing out. Iowa State had maybe six points in the paint in the second half. They shot mostly jumpers and threes. Yet, with over 8 minutes to go in the second half they were in the bonus and in the double bonus with about 5 to go. How? They don't play a style to draw that many fouls.
He cut underneath him after he jumped to lay it up, that's an automatic block. There's nothing wrong with admitting that. To win 6 in a row you'll need some breaks.
"You'll be proud of our young people in the classroom, in the community, and most especially in 310 days in Ann Arbor, Michigan on the football field."
Exactly, and I thought it was obvious I meant in general the block/charge call goes to the defense too much. Craft was still moving when Clyburn was already going up and his lower body is undercutting Clyburn. But yeah, the discussion was overblown since there was still lots of time left (we would've extended the game and played the free throw game possibly but still had plenty of opportunity to win) and there were lots of other calls.
D5K you need to watch the replay again. I linked it below. At 29 seconds you can clearly see that Craft has his feet set before Clyburn finishes his two-foot jump stop. He is set well before Clyburn leaves his feet again.
I think you need to watch his legs closely as they are still moving (i.e. trying to get his feet outside the restricted area) even though his upper body is square. Obviously Craft is good at operating on the edge of the rule book and that is awesome I just think the rule book should change.
Watched it again, I have no idea what you are seeing.
Craft with his feet set. All he does from there is stand up straight. Clyburn still has one foot on the floor. If Craft picks up his heel from there, so what? He is in position in front of the player with the ball before the player with the ball leaves his feet. It is a charge. The ref was in great position, he made the call as he saw it.
If you subsequently "stand up straight" you are not set. And if "standing up straight" is within the realm of "already set" I'm not sure how still having a toenail on the ground isn't being in the air going up for a shot. Not sure how you are twisting physics here. Yes the ref made the call as he saw it, and it was one of many incorrect calls in this game. But it shouldn't have been as big a deal as Chuck made it.
As part of my larger point about charges, what is Clyburn supposed to do? Does he have a realistic chance of changing his path or avoiding Craft? I think that should be the standard of block/charge. If a defender jumps in front of you and you do not have enough time within reason to adjust your path to the basket then it should be a block in my opinion. Of course this is not how they call it in college.
I don't think he was saying that specific play was the worst officiated call in college basketball. I think he was saying the block/call charge in general is the worst, and I would agree with him.
On that call specifically, I don't think it is so cut and dry as most make it out to be. I think it could've been called either way, making half the fans love it and other half hate it no matter which way the call went. I would definitely agree that this was not the best officiated game in this tournament, if not the worst.
Thank you, I may have read that wrong.
i just watched the play four more times. Craft's feet were set before Clyburn jumped. He is wrong about it being a bad call aside from the restriction line. Watch it again, his feet were set before Clyburn left his feet.
The only reason the call is being talked about is because Charles Barkley is an asshat. Iowa State didn't make any mistakes? The refs didn't make any other bad calls? Really? Why focus on that one call? It's pathetic and shouldn't even be discussed this much.
At :29 you can clearly see Craft is set while Clyburn is still coming to a two-foot jump stop.
John Adams, head of NCAA officials, also explicitly states there is no definitive evidence that Craft's heel is above the line. There is no good evidence this was a wrong call. It's controversial, but should not have even been a talking point.
In case embedded video doesn't work, link here: http://www.cbssports.com/video/player/play/collegebasketball/OLp1XQCUbJjL
I agree, I was merely stating that that call would be one of a thousand calls that I could paste together to demonstrate how they should re-evaluate the way they call charges. I would like the offensive player to get the benefit of the doubt.
I can't speak to that play (thought it was a decent call), but that was one of the more over-officiated games I've seen in awhile. They were calling EVERYTHING, even the most borderline, ticky-tacky stuff (like that loose-ball foul on Scott iirc). Let the players play. I'm not a fan of these games where a foul is being called on every borderline play -- completely halts momentum, doesn't allow the game to develop naturally. Makes me feel like the refs want to impose themselves on the game, which shouldn't be happening.
Exactly. Too busy of a day for the refs. I see where you want to set the tone in certain areas: up top with screens, on driving the lane (using your arm to clear vs. taking charges) in the paint obviously, etc. The refs got caught up in the type of game where, as a fan, you start keeping score of who is getting what calls (we got the charge on Craft, they got the loose ball call on Scott) instead of gauging who is doing a better job with possessions. It was messy early, messy throughout.
Wow Chuck cannot stand OSU or the B1G! He says the refs cost Iowa State the game, not good play by OSU. What a joke!
Jim Tressel vs. Rich Rod = Urban Meyer vs. Brady Hoke
Barkley says refs dictated outcome of the game
Chuck is clueless, there were several calls earlier when Lenzelle had rebounding position and he was called for fouls that put Iowa State on the free throw line. There were a lot of touch fouls called on Ohio State and they did not call a lot of fouls called on Iowa State, Ross hit a three and was knocked on his but and no foul called, like Greg Anthony said there were many miss calls during the game, including a bogus technical that slowed an OSU run in the first half.
If Charles is getting paid for his analysis, CBS needs to ask for their money back.
If CBS is asking Charles to be a numbskull/buffoon, who has LouHoltz's speak issues, they are under paying him.

At least his co-commentators have been giving him crap about it. They are calling him on his BS and asking him what he will do if more than 4 Big Ten teams make it to the Sweet Sixteen. That question shut him up pretty effectively.
Real fans stay for Carmen.
The crazy thing is, it didn't shut him up. He just kept saying that there were two losses coming for the big ten today. I think that was his response 3 times in a row. Yes our #6 and #8 teams in the league are going to have a tough time making the sweet sixteen. But if they don't win then the league is horrible I guess.
Roll with it.
Chuck -- obviously didn't watch any games prior to the tournament, his B1G calls have been a bust, his dark horses (New Mexico?) have been a bust.
Kenny Smith -- can't get names right for crying out loud. Alan Craft? Olapido (twice)?
Need to keep this crew on NBA coverage. Greg Anthony and Gumbel are the only ones up there who sound like they know what they're talking about.
I noticed that Kenny doesn't really say a whole lot during the college broadcasts and Chuck has admitted that living on the west coast he really only watches PAC 12 games, so good choice as for the team picked to cover the final four, really made a smart choice for the fans.
Roll with it.
and im guessing if he continues to be fat the way he is his pants are soon to be a bust too.........

I actually really like Chuck but he just simply doesn't know college basketball. When you job is to cover the NBA every night you aren't going to get to watch a lot of college basketball. I am hoping as fewer announcing teams are needed that someone like Gotlieb can get back into the studio. Love him or hate him he knows college basketball inside and out.

Barkley: babble, babble, babble, one side, the other side, babble, babble, turrible, babble, babble, blah blah blah, don't wanna hate but . . . , babble, turrible, babble, whatever I am getting paid, where am I?, babble, babble, Craft, blah blah blah, referees, babble, babble, that school, babble, damn I put $250Gs on ISU, babble, babble, babble, turrible . . .
I think it's pretty clear Chuck bet the moneyline on ISU, based on his pure hatred for OSU/any B1G team...and now he just can't let it go that he lost.
p.s. - I mean this in all sincerity, not as a joke.

One thought that I felt deserved to be brought up:
Why do people hate the SEC in football? Not just because of the wins, but because of the publicity they get. They are seen as the premiere conference not just because of wins, but because of air-time.
Has anyone else heard a conference other than the B1G getting more than 5 minutes of air-time during round-table discussion this March Madness? I haven't. Chuck being a hater is fine, everytime he bashes the B1G he's giving us more publicity, more air-time, and reputation continues to build. B1G love, B1G hate, it's all publicity! Just a thought to keep in mind when Barkley gets on your nerves.
That Capital One commercial, where he is commentating for the fourth graders driveway game. That I'd meant to be funny, but it is pretty spot on. More of his mental age group!
TAKE ON ME BRO
"You have to slay the selfish beast inside of you and be your brother's keeper" - Chris Spielman, on being a great teammate
Two things:
1) after the charge call, Aaron Craft promptly missed the start of the one-and-one and Iowa State got the rebound. That means Iowa State had the same score, and possession, with no time off the clock.
2) Four teams from the same conference in the sweet sixteen has happened five times in all of recorded history. Only five times. I realize it used to be a smaller tournie, but still.
Yeah def not looking good for Minnesota making it five.
Roll with it.
Iowa State turned the ball over with the game tied at 75. Deshaun Thomas made a read on play Iowa State had run several times successfully in the second half. DT read it and tipped it to Scott. Maybe the best defensive play he has made at OSU. Props to him for that.
Iowa State also missed the defensive rebound on the next possession. I thought it was off DT but the replay showed it was off Ejim. That's two examples of how ISU blew it when they had a chance after the charge call. I'm sure there are more examples.
And we can't forget Craft's steal near halfcourt that would have been a fastbreak and easy 2 points. Also called a foul.
They definitely called the reaches on Craft/Scott more than we are used to. This is one of the worries of the NCAA tournament. The refs are not used to these types of guards unless they called Louisville games in the Big East. They can sometimes assume there is a foul on a reach. I think they got 1 or 2 of the reach calls correct but there were a couple terrible calls.
Just Google his golf swing. #NuffSaid
