“Playing in the Big Ten is totally different than playing in the Big 12. It's really slowdown pace,” (Iowa State guard) Lucious said. “We're really just up-tempo. I don't think they've seen a team like us that can stretch it out with all five positions. We rebound, we run, we defend. It's going to be a good game.”
I'm thinking he might be in for a bit of a surprise.

Gotta love bulletin board material. I don't remember the backstory - why did he transfer from Michigan State?
He got into some hot water with Izzo. Don't know what he did though.
Okay, so I went back and looked it up (which is probably what I should have done in the first place), and here's what I found from the gnomes at ESPN:
In January 2011, Lucious was suspended from the Michigan State program for the remainder of the 2010–11 season for "conduct detrimental to the team." "I didn't live up to the standards of the program," Lucious said in the statement. "Unfortunately, I let my teammates, my coaches, and myself down, and wish them the best for the rest of the season."
The article also reminded me that Iowa State has become something of a refuge for dismissed Spartans in recent years...
Royce White also transferred to Iowa State, but from Minnesota. ISU seems to be a magnet for troubled transfers, but there is not much in Ames (other than a solid coach) to attract top basketball talent.
We just put up 95. Enough said.
"It all goes so fast, and character makes the difference when it's close."

Guessing he didn't watch the Buckeyes last night; against a so-called up and down the floor team.
"It's just another case of there you are". ~ Doc (1918-2012)
I had to re-read this twice to realize this wasn't the comments made by Iona before their game. Maybe Lucious should look at what happened in that game.
You would think Momo would have called and warned him about poking the bear.
When will people stop using Wisconsin's style of play to represent the entire Big Ten?
Lucious & co. are good, but they have never seen the ball pressure Craft & Scott will bring.
Crafty's gonna be all up in their Cylcones grill, yo!
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
Their band was highly entertaining last night with their chants during free throws and throughout the game, so there's that.
Well he is right about not really seeing a team that stretches the floor at all 5 positions. But they're offense is predicated on hitting 3s so if we guard the perimeter well and don't let off easy shots then we should be fine. Also I think we are better with the small line up on the court which might be the best way to defend them so we should match up well.
He's right... they've played one B1G team this year... Iowa, and lost.
Uhhh didn't we have the highest point total this week in the tournament? We ran a team outta the gym that has been running all season.
Shut-up CY-CLOWN. GO BUCKS!
I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.
Nothing better than any opposing team doing this. How did it work out for MoMo? Nothing like added inspiration.
"because i play at an irrelevant school, i'm forced to say outlandish things to get attention. LOVE ME. PLEASE LOVE ME."
He was a trash talker at MSU too!
I love it, buckeyes just scored 95 points with the 12th man off the bench playing more than 2 minutes against a full court run and gun team. I am currently watching UM run VCU up and down the court and VCU causes Havoc for teams. Indiana is by far not a slow paced team!
I think the B1G should kick out Wisky because Bo Ryan's play seems to be how this conference is viewed.
Crazy!
Our "style" is winning. Nothing Iowa State has scares me.
No screw that keep wisconsin. They lower other teams expectations which lowers their guard to let us smack them down even harder.
Yeah, well, the Big 12 is a Kansas away from being the Missouri Valley Conference, so I doubt anyone here is going to be too scared.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
The more of these games I watch, the more I like our chances. I think we may have undervalued how good the B1G is this year. At this point, it wouldn't be surprising if anyone of 4 B1G teams win the whole thing (TTUN, Sparty, the Fightin' Dwight Shrutes, and of course tOSU).
Please keep talking smack! I think it is valuable to enable starters to rest and get tournament minutes for bench guys that may start next year.
I'm thinking the same thing... Outside Wisconsin's sad showing, the B1G looked pretty good in the first round.
I think you're right on undervaluing the B1G, and that's even with all of us pretty much claiming it was hands down the best conference (with the lone exception being Chubs Barkley). Outside of Wisky, the conference has shown utter dominance in their games and running out to a very solid 7-1 record. Only good things moving forward for the conference.
+1 for the Fightin' Dwight Shrutes reference
Iowa State fans are tweeting the stats below, running their mouths about how overrated we are.
Ken Pomeroy has OSU at 5th with the 15th best offense and 7th best defense in the country, and Iowa State 32nd with 8th best offense and the 114th best defense in the country. Basically they're the Big 12's version of Iona...
They only have those stats because they throw up so many shots in a game. We have a lower ppg because we play in a conference with great defense. They get more rebounds because they throw up more shots than we do meaning they have more opportunities to get rebounds in a game. Assists per game relates directly to points per game because to get an assist someone has to score.
Where are the defensive stats? They may average 9.7 points per game better than us but how many points per game do they give up compared to us?
I have a feeling they won't be tweeting these stats...
Turnover Percentage: ISU - 15.7% OSU - 14.1%
Opponents PPG: ISU - 70.8 OSU - 58.3
Opponents Effective FG%: ISU - 47.8% OSU - 45.0%
Blocks Per Game: ISU - 2.9 OSU - 4.4
Personal Fouls Per Game: ISU - 16.9 OSU - 15.6
Defensive Rebound Percentage: ISU - 72.8% OSU - 75.0%
ISU fans kind of suck. Except at MS Paint; they're good at that.
THANK YOU IOWA STATE FANS! You've just made today's game more exciting. Previously, you were just some team we had to play clawing for an opportunity. I respected that. It was sorta like going to war, hey we both have to fight - no real hate and we'll make it quick and painless. But now, now it is going to be so fun. Your corn-fed tears will probably be high-fructosey- mmmmm so sweet.
Haha we should've hired this guy to do the new logo. Woulda been cheaper than the 40k we paid and this guy seems proficient in paint.
Go home Cyclones you're drunk!
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
Sounds familiar.
I hope every team says something like this before we play them. Fuel for the fire

Thank you, ISU.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Minnesota scores 83, Indiana 83, OSU 95, Michigan 78. Yes, just a bunch of sled dogs playing in the Big Ten.
I think other conference players equate playing good defense to playing slow. Just because the B1G locks down on defense as compared to the up and down play in other conferences doesn't mean it is a slower game. Just a more difficult game as teams from other conferences are now learning.
Up tempo?
Didn't they lose to Iowa?
SHUTYERHOLE......

Glad he said it, make us put up another 95
not only did they lose to Iowa, THEY GAVE UP 80 TO IOWA. yes, that iowa.

I love these guys running their mouths just gives us more fuel for the fire. We just sit back and collect our wins and don't get cocky the minute you get cocky someone smacks you in the mouth.
Sports are so much easier to play when you have a good reason not to like the other team.......thanks ISU.......prevent the letdown game.
Sweet, this guy can watch us on TV in the Final Four along with MoMo.
Our honor Defend!
Until reading this thread I never realized how obnoxious ISU is.
Whoa! Ask the fellow who patented that motion how that worked out for him last November. A$$-hat. I hope he doesn't tie his shoes tomorrow either.
Ha! No kidding.
Hell, until reading this thread I never knew who ISU was.

We should thank them for Tom Herman.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
We should thank Urban for "taking" Tom Herman away from ISU just like pulling someone out of a burning car and saving his life.
That guy gets on my nerves, that GIf right there, would be my motivation. Lets feed that appetite with a dismantling of those goons.
guess they didn't learn from Momo Jones

Here are some comments on the game from both sides.
fabulous. Thanks!
Sam Thompson should throw down a couple of these to shut him up.
oh the cheers for the dreamy white guy lol

I think he is saying the same thing as that point we embarrassed the last game. That worked out well for him.
Apparently everyone needs to tell themselves & the world how they can beat OSU...Nothing wrong with confidence, but Ohio State is a really good team playing truly great ball right now, might not wanna poke that nest. On the other hand, poke away!! Keep that bulletin board material coming!!!

Fred Hoiberg has done a great job moving from NBA 3-point specialist to stamping his own brand of play on the college game. He has to fight for recruits with limited resources and has had success; he is also a great and humble guy, as you might see a glimpse of that from the video.
That said, teams are reacting to the dominance of the B1G this season, so tags such as 'overrated' and 'not impressed' are thrown around. The growth of our squad over the past month+ is impressive, and the grind of the conference has forced us to adapt to a wide range of playing styles. I believe we are as well prepared as any OSU team in recent memory to play in the dance this year.
That Indiana team that we beat on their own court a few weeks ago is a 3 toed sloth on offense compared to these cyclones who sound like they are going to wrap us in a "cocoon of horror". (google mike tyson cocoon of horror if you are too young to remember)
btw, Indiana is #1 offense in the country, Michigan #2, Duke #3

That put's it all into perspective. "Git ready ta get your "smilers" knocked out Iowa State, 'cause your fixin' to git smacked in the mouff. Man, a few weeks in central Tennessee will definitely broaden one's vocabulary. LLLLLET'S GET READY TO RRRUUUMMBLE!!!!
