Creans Problem With Opposing Coach

Apparently Crean wanted Jeff Meyer, previously on the IU staff with Kelvin Sampson, to know what he thought of him. This mid court scene was after a reported hand shake eff off. What a piece of work Crean is. Move over Bielema, there is a new, classless jerk-off in town taking the crown you previously held for being the biggest B1G tool.

What is interesting to me is that this states that Jeff Meyer was in the center of the Kelvin Sampson issue with calling/texting recruits, which ultimately led to sanctions and Kelvin's ousting.  Which is what Crean was confronting him about here.

Which also is the reason Crean was able to land the IU job.

But I agree with the rest of America, that arent IU fans, in that Crean is a total turd burglar.

Obviously the hierarchy at Indiana is okay with the head coach and his antics.  Makes them look just as bad.

From past history it seems as if this is what success breeds for Indiana basketball.

Please don't compare Tom Crean to Bobby Knight. Crean is a Grade-A jackwagon. Knight may have been... eccentric... but Crean is a toolbag of astronomical proportions.

btalbert25 on 11 Mar 2013 - 10:14am #

I know it won't be a popular opinion here, but Knight was more than eccentric.  Bobby is only liked in these parts because of his connection to Ohio State.  If he were from IU before he coached there, or any other program for that matter, no one in the Ohio State community would like the man.

I believe he was a maniac and a bully who threw childish temper tantrums and holds grudges like a 12 year old girl.  There were years where he wouldn't talk to Coach K for some reason.  He may still not speak to Steve Alford.

I just can't stand Bobby Knight.  Outside of some of the press conferences where he ripped reporters and he came off pretty funny I don't have much use for him.  I know people will rush to say well ask his players what they think of him.  Well that means little to me.  Even disgusting people like Rick Majerus' players loved playing for him.  Nick Saban's players love playing for him.  Bob Huggins is another.  He won a lot of ball games and for that he'll go down in history, but I refuse to like the man.

AndyVance's picture
AndyVance on 11 Mar 2013 - 10:32am #

You're probably right about the Ohio State connection, but in all honesty I liked him when he was at IU, and I was just a kid then - I didn't realize his OSU roots until my opinion of him was already formed, in other words.

When I realized I really did like Knight, though, was the year ESPN did the show "Knight School" about him coaching a group of would-be walk-ons down at Tech. Yeah, he got in their faces and kicked a basketball in the stands because a kid got trapped down in the corner, but it came across to me that he really did care for the kids and wanted them to do well.

I think the bully thing is a bit overwrought; I know a lot of folks would not want their kids to play for the man, but I wouldn't have any qualms about him teaching my kid the game.

btalbert25 on 11 Mar 2013 - 11:12am #

The bully part of it to me is more about how he treated people in general.  Not so much the pushing kids or head butts(which mostly I think were a result of him getting in a kids face to scream at them not so much intended to hurt them). I don't know.  I respect what he was able to do on the court, but that was about it.  He definitely was a great teacher of the game especially before the 90's.  Seems like most of the 90's and what he coached in the 2000's his methods just didn't work.

What a complete asshat. I would tell him to win with some class but obviously that is far beyond his means of doing. Does anyone think that he would have done this if IU had lost? He has the biggest Napoleon complex I've ever seen. If you don't kiss his ass 24/7 then he thinks you are disrespecting him. Douche

Meh if you are going to be a d-bag at least he has the balls to do it in the open. Personally I like it, gives more of an edge to the rivalries and sweetens the pot when you beat them even more. It's not as fun if everyone's all conciliatory and handshakey after everything. Plus it's funny seeing a middle aged dude with glasses getting restrained after trash talking another middle aged dude after a basketball game. Like that was Creans first reaction after the game, to find that guy and talk smack. That's hilarious to me.

But why now?  Why not after the first meeting with Michigan?  Or better yet, why not in 2008 when he first could have confronted Meyer after a game with Michigan?  2009, 2010, 2011, last season?

He's a first class punk loser.  Each and every thing he does basically confirms that more and more.

I think one of the more hilarious things I could see in all my life would be IU getting bounced in the first round of the NCAA tournament.  16 vs. 1, first time it ever happens, and it happens to Tom Crean.

I mean, I'd settle for a loss in the 2nd round to an 8 or 9 seed, but I'd love to see how Crean explains away that one...

I don't understand why Crean is so upset.  If it weren't for Kelvin Sampson and his staff (such as Meyer), Crean would not have the IU job.

Meyer has never been implicated in any of that bad stuff.  That is probably what Crean wanted because Meyer is a recruiting rival with strong ties in IN.  And now ignorant people will associate him with the Sampson wrongdoings (which are not against NCAA rules any longer).

AndyVance's picture
AndyVance on 11 Mar 2013 - 3:14pm #

This is a great point - I think (in hindsight) that this was a calculated move to associate U of M with the shenanigans of Sampson & Co. so he can continue bashing them on the recruiting trail. And to get the face time on camera - did anyone else notice how giddy he looked, looked right into the camera in fact, when they were dragging him off the court?

I'm letting the Creanster have the moment. He's still a top notch doucher, but I say soak it up. I say he's peaking, and moments like these are going to be few and far between.

He is the Bert of B1G B-ball....he'll be a pest for a few years, never really make a dent in comparison to a legend before him, and take the next big offer that comes along.

While I agree with some of your points, IU basketball isn't the stepping stone that Wisky football is.  There's a pretty rich tradition at Indiana and I don't think he looks elsewhere until he's fired.

Nothing to add here that hasn't already been said, but just wanted to throw in my .02.  What I can't believe is that he would actually take the time to search him out.  You just earned your first conference title in how long, and your first action is to look to the other squad?  If I'm Crean, I'm looking to the coaches and players that busted their backsides to make this happen, not one of the individuals from the other school, regardless of what his involvement nay have been.  Paul Brown said it best: "When you win, say nothing.  When you lose, say less."  What a tool, that Crean.

Resent anyone putting Crean in the same sentence as Mr. Knight.  Loved knight when he played with Jerry and loved him even more when he coached our olympians to gold. He had a presence Crean ( king douche ) will never have as evidenced by the complete awe and respect the Russian Olympic team had for him. They were absolutely in love with his demeanor and intensity and all said they wanted to play for him. This is respect on an international level that the douche could never begin to emulate so please do not connect these two again.   Go Bucks.
